Happy Birthday, Tripp!

The Palin household will be celebrating another birthday today – the first birthday of Bristol’s son Tripp. His first year has been a busy one – filled with the usual childhood events as well as media events and appearances in People and GQ magazines. He and his slightly older Uncle Trig have practically become media stars in their own right. Besides the celebrity status of a certain famous relative, both boys are testaments to the value and sanctity of life. And from all accounts, Bristol is an amazing mother, as is her own mother.

Tripp’s birth was mentioned on the Washington Post’s “This Day in History” (h/tp C4P) this morning. How many one-year-olds do you know that make that list?

On behalf of all of us at Sarah’s Web Brigade and the Sarah Palin Web Brigade, I want to wish Tripp a happy, fun-filled birthday today and many more to come! May your days be filled with good things, and may your future hold many happy moments and successes!

Why I Write About Sarah Palin’s Facebook Posts

Dave Weigel wrote a somewhat irrelevant post on December 23 stating why he does not write about Sarah Palin’s Facebook posts, so I thought I would just give him something to think about.

The phrase Sarah Palin used to define the mandatory end-of-life counseling services was “death panel.” She used this phrase not only in this instance but also to indicate the panel that was called a committee who would determine what health care was available under certain circumstances. I agree completely with her description and with her choice of words to describe the exact meaning underlying the phrases used in writing the health care bill under discussion at that time.

I also think the words “death panel” would fit in well with the Harry Reid Socialistic Health Care for a Socialistic America plan. It concerns abortions. Are you aware that States can “opt-out” of abortion coverage? If an “opt-out” clause is required, it must mean that there is authorization allowing and/or supporting abortion. In other words, I would describe a group of people known as a planned parenthood society as a death panel on an unborn life. So, not only was the phrase right the first time, it is right in this instance as well.

As Mrs. Palin writes on her Facebook post of December 22, 2009, “Americans don’t want this bill. Americans don’t like this bill. Washington has stopped listening to us. But we’re paying attention, and 2010 is coming.”

Weigel states that “Palin has put the political press in a submissive position, one in which the only information it prints about her comes from prepared statements or from Q&As with friendly interviewers.” Why is that, I wonder?

Could it be that Governor Palin was tired of her words not being listened to by the lamestream media? Could it be that she was misquoted and misinterpreted so many times she found it necessary to correct the problems herself since the media did not show any sign of trying to correct their ignorance? How can it possibly be correct to state that she is allowed to shape the public debate without actually engaging in it?

When people in the lamestream media start asking the same questions of liberals that they have asked of Sarah Palin, when they criticize any other politician the same way they have criticized her, when they quote her as correctly and explicitly as they quote liberal America haters, then I suspect the media including Mr. Weigel will find themselves able to engage her directly instead of having to rely on her Facebook posts.

Mr. Weigel cites an imagined feud Governor Palin has with former vice president and air polluter extraordinaire, Al Gore. Had either Mr. Gore or Mr. Weigel read the post that Sarah Palin made on her Facebook page, they would have noticed that she never denied the global warming issue. All she said was that there is a happy medium between being conservationally concerned and at the same time respecting the land and the right of citizens to use the land for full benefit.

Scare tactics work on many American people who either don’t have access or don’t have the desire to do their own investigating into an issue as complicated as global warming. I personally have come to the conclusion that the entire global warming issue is made up using the solid scientific fact that the earth is moving continuously and steadily closer to the sun. Being a planet of unimaginable heat, it seems very natural to me that the sun’s heat would be more intensely heating our earth. There may indeed be other truths included in arguments to the contrary, but this one truth remains a constant.

I am well aware that my viewpoint does not agree entirely with Sarah Palin’s viewpoint, and I think that is as it should be. If we all held the same viewpoint without any differences in opinion we would be no better than the liberals who continually attack her.

If Mr. Weigel’s reference to “the media’s indulgence of Palin’s strategy” means that she writes then the media writes, I think he may be very correct. As for his suggestion that it cannot be proven that she does indeed do her own writing on her Facebook posts, I would merely suggest that he put the number of his readership alongside hers and compare the two. I believe he might be rather surprised at what he would learn.

That brings me to my final point. So many of us read every word Sarah Palin writes on Facebook or in her book, “Going Rogue: An American Life”, because we know we can believe what she says. We respect the fact that she is knowledgeable in the topics she addresses. She cites references that we can read ourselves to see that she used them correctly and quoted them correctly. That is something the lamestream media, another of Governor Palin’s coined phrases, could take lessons doing themselves.

It keeps her from being misquoted when she does that. I like that idea.

The Christmas Friendship Dinner was a huge success!

I sit here in amazement at what a wonderful event it was that just took place. The Christmas Friendship Dinner held in Wasilla, Alaska is truly unique. I've never seen an event of this size headed up by a group of caring citizens, and not a major organization. They all know what needs to happen, and they get it done. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with members of this group that have been doing this for years. I want to say this to them, and to anyone reading this so you all will know, that this is what makes our community so wonderfully special. I send blessings to all my local friends, and to all those whom I've met through the internet this year. Below is a copy of an article from The Frontiersman, our local valley newspaper. My only comment would be that the writer is not quite correct - our celebration was not about Sarah as he said, but it's not about Santa either, as the article suggests. The celebration of CHRISTmas is about CHRIST. After all, he is the reason for the season! Please take the opportunity to look over these photos, as well as the attached article. God bless everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Christmas Friendship Dinner dubbed 'best ever'

WASILLA — Not even Sarah Palin could upstage Santa Claus.

As the former vice-presidential candidate served up mashed potatoes and turkey to a long line of hungry visitors, Santa was still wide awake after pulling an all-nighter delivering gifts around the world. Both were all smiles as they chatted with and served up food and presents to hundreds at the 18th annual Christmas Friendship Dinner at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.

“No, no, no, not tired at all,” Santa said. “All that cocoa last night, and with all the cookies and chocolate, I’m wide awake.”

While Palin has been making national headlines since the release of her best-selling memoir, “Going Rogue,” there were no mobs of well-wishers, protesters or media. Many of the attendees were glad to see her and husband Todd participating in a hometown event, but said, at least on Christmas, Santa was the No. 1 celebrity at the sports center on Christmas.

“The food is good, the people are good and it’s good to see people you haven’t seen in while,” said Glen Butts. “And, of course, we have Sarah here. ... (But) I’d have to say Santa is the bigger celebrity. He’s going non-partisan, so I’d have to go with him.”

Lt. Micah Weinstein of the Wasilla Police Department reserves agreed. “Sarah’s a great lady, but Santa’s Santa.”

Behind the scenes, Bob Bowers has helped organize and cook for the Christmas Friendship Dinner since its inception. That first year, the dinner served 64 people at the Wasilla Senior Center. Last year, an estimated 1,500-1,700 was fed at Wasilla High School, and this year Bowers was prepared for 2,000 people at the sports center, as the event had outgrown the high school.

After 18 years of peeling potatoes and cooking in cramped, hot kitchens, is Bowers ready to pass on his apron?

“Heck, are you kidding?” he said. “I look forward to this day. This is the happiest day of my life when I get down here.”

This year, Bowers and a small army of volunteers helped cook and serve 63 turkeys, 60 hams, 600 pounds of potatoes, 50 gallons of gravy, 80 pounds of butter, dozens of large cans of beans and corn, and 600 pounds of carrots.

With more space and the kitchen facilities at the sports center, “This is the best year we’ve ever had,” Bowers said. “At the high school, they had to cook the potatoes out in front of the high school, and then they had to wheel them all the way back to the kitchen, mash them up, then haul them right back to where they cooked them. It took us all day.”

The Cowles family traveled from Indian with 7-year-old daughter Tilly for the dinner and passed the time playing Uno while waiting to help clean up.

“It feels like family,” Roger Cowles said about why his family has attended the past four Christmas events. “My folks live here and they peel potatoes and carrots. Last year, we came a day early and helped. This year we’re on the clean-up crew.”

While Tilly played Uno with her parents — “I lost the last hand,” her father said. “I was, like, hundreds in the hole” — her brothers were outside playing with a new toy they received at the sports center.

“We wouldn’t let them bring a football,” Roger Cowles said. “We said, ‘No, it’s going to be indoors.’ So, the gift they got from the giveaway over there was a football.”

Ashley Mills was one volunteer helping hand out presents to children at the dinner. All the gifts were donated, she said, then wrapped and labeled so each child would get a gift appropriate to his or her age and gender.

“It just makes me so happy to see them so happy about getting a present,” she said.

From youngsters visiting Santa one last time to seniors finding some companionship on Christmas, the friendship dinner was the place to be.

Barbara Rice lives at the Wasilla Senior Center and raved about the pecan pie.

“That pie, I’m not kidding you, is just delicious,” she said.

She also had warm thoughts for the local Santa Cop program, which payed her a visit earlier on Christmas.

“I didn’t even know about them,” she said of the Santa Cops. “They came in and said, ‘Are you Barbara Rice?’ And I said, ‘I am.” And he said, ‘We’re the Santa Cops and we’re here to see you.’”

She received a $100 gift certificate and several other wrapped gifts, Rice said.

“I was shocked a just the (amount of the) gift certificate, and I still have the gifts to look at too,” she said.

Kurt Karmer took a break from volunteering in the kitchen to enjoy Christmas dinner with his family. After three days of cooking to prepare, he proclaimed “everything” was the best on the menu.

“I just like bringing a little Christmas cheer to people, that’s all,” he said. “It’s been really good. The volunteers are great and (the facility) is beautiful.”

Sierra Hannan is a Christmas Friendship Dinner veteran. Attending since she was a girl, Hannan now brings her own children.

“I think it’s absolutely wonderful,” she said. “It helps out the community, and it’s not just for poor people, it’s for everybody.”

Bowers said he gets more out of volunteering to make the dinner happen than he puts into it, but what really made him choke up was seeing the community fill the sports center.

“This is the gospel-honest truth,” Bowers said. “I have walked out there three times today, and all three times I had to come back because I had tears in my eyes. I was so happy and so overwhelmed with what I saw, it just makes my Christmas.”

Many of you who follow my blog regularly found me through Twitter or Facebook or through some of the Sarah Palin websites. We were blessed today when Sarah Palin and her family came and devoted time to volunteering at the Christmas Dinner. Sarah and Todd, her kids, her brother and sisters, their children, and her mom and dad were all in attendance. Sarah came in and of course, there was immediate excitement. Sarah was gracious enough to sign a few items. I was working as the volunteer coordinator, and she told me she really wanted to serve so we set her up with Angie and she put her to work on the serving line. Everyone was very excited to see her, and for some it made this Christmas Day even that much more special. Sarah has a servant's heart and I know this is what makes her day as well. Sarah is her mother's daughter, and it was her mother who originally asked me to get involved. Chuck Jr. was so proud that his boys were able to participate and they all had a great time. Sarah's sisters and their families were also involved. Here are some photos from that part of the event:

Santa was the celebrity today

Today is Christmas a time when we cherish spending time with friends and family as we take part in the celebrations of the day. However, for some, the hard times produced by a sluggish economy makes it difficult to provide a Christmas meal. Many communities help by providing a place for people to gather while also providing a hearty Christmas dinner. One community is Wasilla Alaska. The Frontiersman newspaper has a great article about today’s Christmas Friendship Dinner.

According to The Frontiersman, even Sarah Palin couldn’t upstage Santa! But the truth of the matter is I bet that she would not have even tried. It is all about the season and the spirit of giving, not about celebrity or status. Even Sarah said as much in her tweet this morning “Merry Christmas morning from the Palins! Joy,peace, rest&increased faith for you&your family this season. Jesus is the Reason for the Season!” May God bless us all and we head into the new year and new challenges.

Christmas Message to All

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Merry Christmas to all!

Christmas is more than gifts and a tree. Christmas is even more than precious family time. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus--the Christ, the Anointed One.

It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that the God of the universe knew that man needed a Savior, so He sent...Himself. He wrapped Himself in flesh and came humbly as a man, fully God and fully man. What an amazing love! Meditate on that for a while and see if it doesn't change your perspective on, not just Who He is, but who you are, for He did what He did...for you! He did it for me!

Yes, He is God. That's why when Philip asked to see the Father, Jesus responded in John 14:9 (emphasis added):

9Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

I delight in sharing the message of Christ. Enjoy your family, enjoy your gifts, but most of all, enjoy the Lord.

Isaiah 9:6:
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

A few points from this passage in Isaiah:
1. They were expecting Jesus for generations.
2. He alone is in control.
3. Jesus is God in the flesh.
4. There is no peace apart from Him, for He IS peace.

Luke 2: 1-20:
1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

A few points from this passage in Luke:
1. Jesus came humbly to the earth; a King came as a servant.
2. We must never despise where we are in life now. God's plan is often bigger than what we can see today, but may our motive always be to serve.
3. The Good News of Jesus causes us to rejoice and praise God vehemently.
4. Encountering Christ makes us want to share Him with others. You just can't keep it to yourself!

God bless you all.

Merry Christmas 2009 from SPWB!

Merry Christmas from all of us at Sarah’s Web Brigade and the Sarah Palin Web Brigade to all of our readers! May your day be blessed as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, whose birth, death, and resurrection guaranteed eternal life for all who would accept His free gift! As we spend time with friends and family today, let us take time to thank Him for all he has done and continues to do for all of us.

The famous poem below describes the impact of His life on the institutions and history of the human race. What the poem fails to mention are the many deeds of Jesus while on Earth. The Book of John ends with this statement:

John 21:25 (King James Version):

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village
The child of a peasant woman
He grew up in another obscure village
Where he worked in a carpenter shop
Until he was thirty

He never wrote a book
He never held an office
He never went to college
He never visited a big city
He never travelled more than two hundred miles
From the place where he was born
He did none of the things
Usually associated with greatness
He had no credentials but himself

He was only thirty three

His friends ran away
One of them denied him
He was turned over to his enemies
And went through the mockery of a trial
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves
While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing
The only property he had on earth

When he was dead
He was laid in a borrowed grave
Through the pity of a friend

Nineteen centuries have come and gone
And today Jesus is the central figure of the human race
And the leader of mankind's progress
All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that ever reigned put together
Have not affected the life of mankind on earth
As powerfully as that one solitary life

Merry Christmas Wish: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

I just wanted to take a minute to wish you and yours a very, very Merry Christmas. I know many of you are very busy with planning today and tomorrow's festivities, but remember to stop and take a minute to reflect on the true meaning of the season: Jesus. He is the light and the hope of the world!!! I am so thankful to have been brought up in a family in which I was reminded of this each and every day of the year, and most importantly at Christmastime when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Let us all be thankful for everything we have as a nation. I love our military, and I am so grateful for the sacrifices our brave men and women make for us each and every day of the year! I have included a link to a Youtube video that will put everything into perspective. Click here to watch!!! Enjoy and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS!!!

On a cool side note, below is a photo I was presently surprised to find on the internet yesterday of Sarah's awesome dad, Chuck Heath. He is pictured at the Wasilla book signing, wearing one of the red Going Rogue Book Tour 2009 shirts we embroidered Sarah's family. How cool is that?
