Kathy Griffin Booed By Troops for Bristol Palin Joke; Bristol Responds

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Kathy Griffin got a lesson in class from the military. I hope she took notes. While hosting "VH1 Divas Salute The Troops," the troops actually booed her when she made a fat joke about Bristol Palin.

Holly McKay reported on FoxNews.com
Kathy Griffin hosted the VH1 Divas salute to the troops this weekend, but her “jokes” about Bristol Palin being “fat” fell flat.

"She's the only contestant in the history of the show to actually gain weight," Griffin said in reference to Bristol's trip to the finals on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Even after the troops' loud booing, Griffin continued the attack.

"No, come on, come on. She gained like 30 pounds a week, I swear to God, it was fantastic,” Griffin said. “She's like the white Precious."

[...]

But Palin, 20, isn’t letting 50-year-old Griffin’s digs bring her down.

“The audience's reaction to this ‘comedian’ spoke volumes, and the decent people I know would probably have booed her, too,” Palin told Pop Tarts in an exclusive statement. “I hope people didn't have to pay money to hear her negativity and criticisms.”

[...]

“Calling Bristol Palin fat is inappropriate and distasteful, even under the guise of humor,” body image expert and author of “Love Your Body Love Your Life,” Sarah Maria, told Pop Tarts. “The problem is that people, and particularly young people, easily absorb the ideas, beliefs, and attitudes that are presented to them. [It's a problem] when someone makes critical comments about someone else’s body and weight, beliefs such as ‘fat is a horrible thing,’ ‘I am no good unless I am thin.'"

[...]

And while Griffin strutted in a bikini in what she called her “starvation body,” the comedienne wasn’t always so willing to flaunt her figure.

Just last year, the “Suddenly Susan” star admitted that she fell prey to some serious body image issues while seeking out her “big break” in Hollywood. Not only did Griffin get a nose job at the age of 26 in an attempt to improve her appearance, in addition to liposuction that she claims almost killed her, she also reportedly exercised obsessively, starved herself during the day and binged at night.

Having experienced the pain and pressure of show business first-hand, might one think Griffin would be a little mores sensitive to such issues?

“It is quite surprising, given her own experience," Maria said. "One would hope that her own difficulties would awaken a sensitivity, understanding, and compassion regarding the difficulties of body weight and image in today’s culture."

Of course, this isn't the first swipe Griffin has taken at a Palin. She seems to be a bit obsessed, even stooping so low as to trespass the Palins' property, which she managed to do while palling around with Levi Johnston.

Perhaps with the help of being booed by our men and women in uniform, Kathy Griffin will get the not-so-subtle hint: no one is laughing at her mean-spirited--not to mention incorrect--assessment of Bristol's weight.

Bristol Palin: Mr. Olbermann--Sorry We Can't All Be As Perfect As You

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Bristol Palin respectfully, but forcefully, took down "perfect" Keith Olbermann today. His decision to attack a 20 year old speaks volumes about how childish he is, and the manner in which she handled him speaks loud and clear about her level of maturity. On Facebook, Bristol writes:
Recently, a left wing commentator named Keith Olbermann attacked me for being a spokesperson for abstinence education and for being an Ambassador for the Candies Foundation, which promotes teen pregnancy awareness and prevention education. He went so far as to call me "the worst person" he knows, apparently, for my efforts to educate teenagers about the real world risks of premarital sex.

Accusing me of hypocrisy is by now, an old canard. What Mr. Olbermann lacks in originality he makes up for with insincere incredulity. Mr. Olbermann fails to understand that in order to have credibility as a spokesperson, it sometimes takes a person who has made mistakes. Parents warn their children about the mistakes they made so they are not repeated. Former gang members travel to schools to educate teenagers about the risks of gang life. Recovered addicts lecture to others about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse. And yes, a teen mother talks about the benefits of preventing teen pregnancy.

I have never claimed to be perfect. If that makes me the "worst person in the world" to Mr. Olbermann, then I must apologize for not being absolutely faultless like he undoubtedly must be.

To Mr. Olbermann let me say this: you can attack me all you want. But you will not stop me from getting my message out about teen pregnancy prevention. And one day, if you ever have a daughter, you may change your mind about me.

Bristol Palin

Hopefully Olbermann--radical far-Left loon that he is--has learned a thing or two. The logical thing for him to do now is acknowledge he was out of line and way off base, but I don't expect it. Who knows? Maybe he'll surprise me.

Latest ADN PDS Rant an Epic Fail!!! A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

The PDS, liberal infested Anchorage Daily News is at it again. While trashing Sarah Palin is a regular occurrence over at this liberal news rag, they have set their sick, twisted sights on attacking her 20-year-old daughter, Bristol. The ADN has published a piece by Paul Jenkins, editor of the Anchorage Daily Planet. Jenkins has written a hate-filled piece criticizing Bristol for having the nerve to defend her mother and herself against the "haters" during her time as a contestant on ABC's Dancing with the Stars. Get this: It seems as if Jenkins' main beef with Bristol stems from the fact that Bristol called out those who have attacked her and her mom. Oh, how scandalous:

In the Palins' strange world, haters lurk always just in the shadows, enemies of all that is decent. They are out to sink Bristol's boat, to make her mother's struggling television show even more boring than it is -- the high point so far was Bristol's aggravated battery on a halibut -- and to sideline mom's political aspirations, and not necessarily in that order. (As a matter of full disclosure, I have a "Haters" T-shirt and am wearing it as I write this, but I know haters, and I'm no hater. It takes too much energy. I'm more of a cranky disliker.)

It is clear that the only delusional person here is the author of this ridiculous piece. Last I checked, DWTS had its highest ratings ever AND Sarah Palin's Alaska was the most-watched series premiere in TLC's history.
I guess Jenkins thinks outdoor lovers like the Palins are just a boring bunch of losers. I'd hate to think how he would describe himself. After all, what kind of a person would admit to wearing a "Haters" t-shirt? That's almost as bad as someone waking around with the word "loser" on his forehead, but I am not putting it past someone of Jenkins' caliber to do something like that either.

It is apparent that Jenkins needs to get a life. Did it ever occur to him that the Palin family are loved and adored by many? I find it ironic that as the mainstream, lamestream media find their readership numbers on the verge of nonexistent, the more the Palin family is finding continued success. This illustrates just how powerful this family is. It is apparent that Jenkins is jealous as is the case with so many Palin-family haters. Instead of writing about something newsworthy, Jenkins wasted perfectly good newspaper space to attack a young woman who never so much as looked in his direction. Yet, this how the typical PDS -infected folks seem to lead their lives now-a-days. Jenkins continues his rant:

Palin's persistent use of the term now has been embraced by her daughter. For Bristol, one can only hope such insanity will pass; that she will see her life should be more than hating haters; that sometimes our worst enemies can be our best friends; that not all critics deserve "a big middle finger." But for the lovely Sarah P., a woman toying with the notion of being president of the United States, it may be too late.

Her world is very black and very white. I just hate that.

If Mr. Jenkins had any class whatsoever, he would have realized a long time ago that the Palins don't give a darn about the media and what they think. Bristol Palin is a strong, fierce, determined young woman who will do great things during her lifetime- no doubt about it. I think it is time for Mr. Jenkins and his PDS-deranged friends to find a better way to spend their time. After all, last time I checked, it is Christmastime, a time for giving. I suggest Mr. Jenkins repay the crappy ADN for publishing his piece by going out there and getting them a few more readers. Good luck finding those readers. Note to the ADN subscriber department: I have a feeling people will be too busy watching Sarah Palin's Alaska to answer the door or pick up the phone.

Congratulations, Bristol Palin; Mission Accomplished

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Bristol Palin entered the Dancing with the Stars studio with these goals in mind:

1. Get out of her comfort zone
2. Have fun

Mission accomplished--and then some. Her improvement over these last several weeks is obvious. Judges spoke time and time again of her impeccable form and footwork. They encouraged her to let go more, and we beheld her do that as well. This was not by accident; this was the result of hard work, determination, and a relentless commitment to progress. Bristol has come a long way, and we had the privilege of watching it all and cheering her on.

When she took on this adventure, Bristol readily admitted that she had done no more dancing than that which a mom does with her son when no one else is watching. However, when contacted by DWTS, Bristol didn't let her inexperience get in the way. In true Palin fashion, she chose to tackle this new challenge with which she was presented and to do it with everything within her. I don't know if Bristol realized the impact that stepping out--literally--would have, but immediately people rallied around her and were very much engaged in her new endeavor. This is evident on Facebook, for as soon as she started her official page, her Facebook friends blew up, as the saying goes. She reached 1,000 in just one day, 5,000 in a week, and the growth continues. She currently has nearly 27,000 in such a short amount of time.

Bristol's ability to exchange "mourning for dancing," as Governor Palin reminds us, should be a lesson to each of us. Her appearance on the show did more than electrify fans. It inspired a multitude. While the number of people who follow her on Facebook does speak to the celebrity Bristol has, various comments I've read there are what speak to the impact she's having on the lives of people. Both men and women are applauding her growth as a person and the perseverence she personifies. Not everyone can come through what Bristol has come through with such class, grace, and influence. As a teenager, she became a mom. She faced her responsibility and brought her son into the world. She finished school, worked hard, and committed herself to putting Tripp first. This journey wasn't without mistakes, heartbreaks, or sacrifices, but she entered this season with faith, hope, and a steely spine--not just the DWTS season either. I'm talking about this new season of her life. This is where people find inspiration in her.

As if DWTS wasn't challenge enough, Bristol simultaneously took on the added challenge of traveling to share her testimony and the message of abstinence she has embraced. She spoke at Lifehouse in Louisville, the Tulare-Kings Right to Life in Visalia, and the Perry Center in Fargo. She has found her own voice and has literally matured before America's eyes, and it's only the beginning for her. As her mother, Governor Palin, would say, "The world is her oyster" as she moves forward.

Dancing is a metaphor for life, and in just a few weeks, Bristol has lived it before us:

You're faced with a challenge, so you put one foot in front of the other. It may be new, but each step leads to another--and you learn along the way. It may be uncomfortable, but you give yourself to someone you trust to lead you--and you find out that there was more to you than even you knew. Your routine gets judged, but you take the criticism, some of it unfair and inconsistent, but you go back to the practices, the sweat, the discipline--and you come back again for more. The music ends all too soon--and yet you walk away secure in the knowledge that you did what you set out to do. You got out of your comfort zone, you had a blast, and you even did something you hadn't bargained for: you made a whole lot of people feel like they were dancing right along with you.

Tonight's third place finish is certainly not the end for Bristol. The greatest adventures of life are ahead of her still. She'll continue to embrace new challenges, grow as an individual, and share a message of faith, life, and hope--and she'll do it with the support of people who, while watching someone become her best self, have found the strength to become their best selves.

Stepping out never comes without haters, and there have been many along the way trying to derail Bristol's efforts. We can learn much from her philosophy, however--the same philosophy she shared with her parents when they reminded her of the criticism she was sure to face: "People are going to criticize anyway, so I might as well dance." Dance she did, and in so doing, the numbers of people she inspired far outweighed the numbers of haters.

Bristol Palin's Dancing with the Stars adventure ended, but if this chapter had to come to a close, if tonight's dance was her last televised dance, what better way to go out than having the courage to step out of her comfort zone the last few weeks--once in a monkey suit, no less--and have the time of her life? These were her goals after all, were they not?

Yes, mission accomplished. Congratulations, Bristol Palin!

Of course, Governor Palin offered her congratulations. She just tweeted the following:
1. Well, what a great ride! Competition is good for everyone.Be inspired by those who step up to challenges & improve w/each step;Congrats Jen!

2. Congrats Jen,Kyle,Bristol,et al, for proving competition is GOOD! Remember: "They're going to criticize anyway, so you might as well dance!"

'DWTS' Semi-Finals Results

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

NOTE: DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT YET WANT TO KNOW WHO IS ADVANCING TO THE FINALS OF "DANCING WITH THE STARS."

Bristol Palin has done it. She has gone all the way from no dance experience at all to the Finals of "Dancing with the Stars." What an amazing feat and one that should be celebrated. Bristol has worked very hard and, as the judges have said, has come farther than any other participant in the history of the show.

Not everyone is celebrating her success, however. Liberal heads are exploding all over the place. It really is quite pathetic that people cannot put aside their hatred and Palin Derangement Syndrome, just enjoy cheering on some hardworking people, and have a little family-friendly fun. "Dancing with the Stars" results combines judges' votes with America's votes. Why some haters are promoting a conspiracy theory is beyond me. But I do know one thing: nobody's going to stop moving forward and winning just because some losers want them to. It's onward and upward for Bristol!

It's Monday Night, which Means it's Bristol Palin's Night to Shine!!! A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

I hope you all had a great weekend and had fun watching Sarah Palin's Alaska last night on TLC. What a great show; I know I speak for many of you when I admit that I cannot wait until next week. Make sure to tune in next Sunday night at 6 pacific/9 eastern on TLC to catch the second episode of the eight-part series.

Now, on to the business of the day...

Bristol Palin has "WOWED" America with her consistent improvement and her just-dance attitude during her time on Dancing with the Stars. Bristol needs our help again TONIGHT as she prepares to dance two dances in an all-out effort to make it into the finals. It is no secret that Bristol is the most-improved dancer left. It is also common knowledge that Bristol is the only contestant left who has no acting OR dancing experience. As the fabulous Kelly Osbourne recently said, "I love Bristol. I think she's what the show is all about. She puts her heart into what she's doing; there's such vulnerability in her, and she gets up there every week by herself and does it." Kelly is so right, Bristol IS what DWTS is all about. When I interviewed her for my blog, I found her to be so down-to-earth and genuine. There is not a diva bone in her entire body. In becoming a cast member on DWTS, she chose put herself out there, which illustrates her bravery and willingness to just let her hair down and have some fun. Sarah Palin recently tweeted some words of wisdom that Bristol shared with her when she first became a contestant: "No matter what I do, they're going to criticize, so I might as well dance." Well said, Bristol, well said. You just get out there and have some fun, and we will be there to support you and vote like crazy!!!

Remember, it is up to all of you out there!!! YOU can help her get through to next week. Make sure you watch the show and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!! While it is vital that you call 1-800-868-3407 with as many phones as you have, voting multiple times, it is just as vital that you vote online at abc.com and if AT&T is your cellular carrier, text your votes to 3407.

Bristol Rocks on DWTS, Acknowledges Voter Support

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Bristol Palin was fabulous on Dancing with the Stars last night. Not only was her technique sound, but she came with great fire--and the judges loved it!

Deborah Starr Seibel reports:
But what everyone in the audience was talking about was the surprisingly strong showing by Bristol Palin, who managed to rack up 23 points for her graceful tango before coming in second-to-last for the marathon. Nevertheless, she wowed with a newfound confidence on the dance floor.

"I realized that if I didn't go all out, I was gonna go home," said Palin, who is known to be painfully shy. "So I tried my best to go all out." The 20-year-old single mom somehow managed to survive dancing in a disastrous monkey costume last week, to say nothing of forgetting her steps.

That survival has led to much speculation that the Tea Party may be warming up their voting fingers in preparation for next week's election by voting for Republican Sarah Palin's daughter. Does Bristol think that's what's going on? "I'm sure they're backing us up," she said. "It's just my mom's supporters."

Added her partner, pro Mark Ballas, "I have no idea what the Tea Party is. But I'm from England and I like tea. So, whether it's a tea party, a coffee party, or any other beverage party — as long as it's non-alcoholic — we appreciate any support we can get."

Of course we're backing her up! Every vote counts--and we're exercising our right! Tonight we'll find out what next week holds for Bristol and Mark.

Dance Bristol Dance!

Bristol Palin Cleared in Nacho-Gate Investigation

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Nacho-Gate has been put to rest, as any sane individual would have predicted. As covered here, the haters decided that Bristol Palin should be investigated for eating nachos at a restaurant while there to see Mark Ballas, her Dancing with the Stars partner, perform. Also, as covered here, Bristol not only adhered to the law; she exceeded it. Now, it's official. Becky Bohrer reports:

State investigators say "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Bristol Palin did not violate the law by appearing last month at an Anchorage bar and grill.

Palin is 19, and the Alaska Alcoholic Beverage Control Board received several complaints about her being at Rumrunners Old Towne Bar and Grill for a performance by her dancing partner, Mark Ballas.

Law permits those under 21 to be inside such establishments if they're accompanied by a parent, spouse or legal guardian over age 21 and are there to eat.

Board Director Shirley Gifford says Palin was with an older guardian, drinking only water and eating nachos and chicken strips. She says there was nothing to indicate any law was broken.

Josh Painter breaks down the absurdity of this situation and the ongoing Palin Derangement Syndrome displayed by those hell-bent on destroying this family:

Bristol, and the other Palin offspring, had better be careful to only cross the streets within the borders of painted crosswalks, lest the PDS-afflicted run to the police and demand that they be charged with jaywalking. It seems that they would also be advised to check their pillows and make sure that no tags have been removed. That's a federal crime, you know.

Josh's comments, humorous as they seem, are not too far from the truth. This is an all-out campaign focused on destroying Governor Palin by any means necessary, That, of course, is what this is all about. And these PDS sufferers have no problem going after her children to achieve their goal. The Governor knows how to persevere, however, which she has demonstrated time and time again. She's here to stay, and these pathetic antics will continue to fall flat. These people would do well to face it now.

Talking with a Star: My One-on-One Interview with Miss Bristol Palin- A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking with the amazing and inspiring Bristol Palin. As a single mom, public speaker and advocate for abstinence and the pro-life cause, as well as a contestant on ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), Bristol is a super-busy young woman, but was kind enough to speak with me about her appearance on DWTS, her advocacy campaign and what she sees for her and Tripp in the future. It was a blast to talk with Bristol, and I thank her again for taking the time to speak with me. Bristol is both charming and witty, and it was fun to share some laughs and light-hearted conversation with her. While so many well-known young people are caught up living the fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle, it is refreshing to have a young woman of Bristol’s caliber taking a stand and making a difference. I hope you enjoy reading this Q&A profile piece as much as I did writing it. Click here to visit my blog and read the entire piece.

Bristol Palin and Nacho-Gate

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

What is it with these people who will stop at nothing to conjure up some kind of dirt on the Palins? This truly is pathetic. I'm never surprised, but I still can't get used to it. As if it's not over the top enough to harass Governor Palin, now they're focusing hard on her 19 year old daughter, Bristol. They can't stand to see any Palin minding their own business, pursuing their dreams, and enjoying their life. It leaves these haters looking extremely petty and utterly deranged. Bristol seems to have the same steely spine as her mom, however, and she continues to move forward.

Bristol took Mark Ballas, her Dancing with the Stars partner, home to Alaska to visit and see the great state. While there, he performed at a restaurant called Rum Runners. Someone decided an investigation of Bristol's appearance at the eatery was in order, alleging she was too young to be in a bar and looking into what she consumed. Give me a break! Anything to make a Palin look like some kind of criminal. It doesn't work when they go after Governor Palin, and it won't work with Bristol. In an interview with Greta Van Susteren Wednesday night, Bristol wittily stated:

Yep, I ate nachos in a restaurant, guilty as charged!
So last week Mom endured Boo-Gate, and this week Bristol has to deal with Nacho-Gate! It's a good thing Bristol is strong and focused on where her life is headed because, with these determined haters running around, she's going to need to be.

Rum Runners is indeed a restaurant, a kid-friendly one at that. Take a look at the menu, which has a section just for children called Lil Swash-Bucklers Menu:

Now take a look at the inside of Rum Runners. See the children?

Palin attorney, Thomas Van Flein, has broken down the law, which should settle this whole nonsense:

AS 04.16.049. Access of Persons Under the Age of 21 to Licensed Premises.
(a) A person under the age of 21 years may not knowingly enter or remain in premises licensed under this title unless
(1) accompanied by a parent, guardian, or spouse who has attained the age of 21 years;
(2) the person is at least 16 years of age, the premises are designated by the board as a restaurant for the purposes of this section, and the person enters and remains only for dining; or
(3) the person is under the age of 16 years, is accompanied by a person over the age of 21 years, the parent or guardian of the underaged person consents, the premises are designated by the board as a restaurant for the purposes of this section, and the person enters and remains only for dining.

Thus, Bristol was accompanied by Ivy [Frye] as her guardian. Bristol was over 16. That means she meets section one and that is enough.

But, she also meets part (2): She was over 16 and in the restaurant area and not drinking alcohol. There is a restaurant section, Bristol was in that are, and she was eating Nachos, and not drinking.
Bristol, therefore, not only met the requirements of the law, as the Palins tend to do; she exceeded it.

So here's the deal: Yes, Bristol was at Rum Runners to watch her DWTS partner perform. Yes, she was accompanied by a guardian. No, she did not consume any alcohol. But yes, she is guilty of ordering Nachos! So there's Nacho-Gate for you.

Alaska's Bob and Mark addressed this on their radio show yesterday.

Near the very end, Bob unloads on those who slam Governor Palin for stepping down:

They later interviewed the Palins' lawyer, Thomas Van Flein:

Bristol Palin Interview; This is Her Story

Bristol Palin is her own person. She may be known to the world as Governor Palin's daughter, which is a distinction of which she is quite proud; however, there is much more to Bristol, who is now forging her own way in the world.

In an interview with Ms. Palin, I discovered just how independent and free-thinking she actually is. I took note of her ability to simultaneously handle questions, relate her personal story, and tend to her son--who was pursuing the acquisition of another popsicle. I got the sense that Bristol Palin definitely knows who she is and what she believes. I remember the first time I watched Bristol being interviewed. This was not that girl. This was a woman with her own convictions and the voice to articulate them. This was a mother whose worldview is clearly shaped by her child and concern for his future. One cannot deny that being Sarah Palin's daughter has helped form who she is, and she talked about that. But make no mistake about it. This is her story.

In surprisingly transparent fashion, Bristol opened up about "Dancing With the Stars," her abstinence advocacy, her mother's political career, and her own future. When discussing the 2008 campaign, she shared her greatest highs and even the lowest low.

We began the interview discussing her participation in "Dancing With the Stars." Admittedly not a seasoned dancer, one would wonder how she found herself in such an unlikely position. This was not something Bristol pursued. The offer came to her, and in the spirit of trying something new that would be positive and a comfort-zone buster, her response was a resounding, "Yeah, let's go for it!" I wanted to know what everyone wants to know. "What did your family have to say about it?" Bristol was clear in saying that she is independent and made up her own mind to participate. It wasn't until after she did her research and signed her contract that she informed her parents. They, of course, know that she is an adult who is committed to doing what's best for herself and her son, Tripp. Concerning her mom, Bristol shared, "My mom is going to be my biggest fan. She'll be there cheering me on," which refutes the lies out there that the Governor is not in Bristol's corner. I think she has a bigger fan than even her mother, however. "Tripp's loving it!" she said.

"DWTS" seems to be a grueling schedule. Rehearsal starts at 9 a.m. With only a break for lunch, Bristol doesn't return to her "home" until 5 p.m. each evening. Not only does her day include dancing with her partner, but she works out for about an hour alone before knocking off for the day. When I asked her if she has ever thought, "What in the world have I gotten myself into?" and if she's wanted to throw in the towel, she responded, "Surprisingly, not yet." However, she admitted that this is quite the challenge, but definitely one that she is enjoying, and having a good relationship with Mark Ballas, her partner, only enhances the experience.

One challege she's had to face is feeling uncomfortable being sensual and sexual, both in attire and in dance movements, which is expected from "DWTS" participants. "I don't have a sexy bone in my body," Bristol said. So how is she handling it? She says to herself, "I'm playing a character as any actor would do." This mindset has helped her relax and become more comfortable in the last few days.

The 19 year old does more than dance, and this is perhaps the most impressive thing about Bristol. She also has her own PR and consulting firm, is doing speeches, and, of course, raising a toddler. Not at all prone to lifting up herself, Bristol sees what she's doing as nothing more than what "other single moms who are working, providing, and juggling everything do." It is not lost on her, however, that her support base is a strength that provides her with these opportunities. She readily states how blessed she is.

Speaking of blessings, I asked Bristol about the role of faith in her life. Her response was that faith is huge for her. Not preachy at all, but in what is clearly a major tenet of the Gospel, Bristol shared that she made a decision to live a life of faith. She approaches things in life with this question in mind: "Is this moral?" Someone else preferred the phrase, "What would Jesus do?" but the principle is the same. It is quite obvious to me that her upbringing in the Palin household influenced the faith she holds so dear, and yet it's also quite obvious that it has become her faith, not just Mommy's or Daddy's. Bristol's acknowledgement of being blessed is her own inner awareness. When she discussed faith guiding her decisions, that was, as she said, her own personal decision, and I could hear that in her voice.

Abstinence is so often linked to faith, and Bristol has chosen to be a spokesperson for the cause. She has given her voice to promoting it, yet she is well-aware of being criticized because she, a teenage mom, advocates abstinence. Nonetheless, her stand remains the same. We live in a culture that looks down its nose at abstinence, as people buy into the idea that encouraging it doesn't work. Why, then, wouldn't she simply encourage safe and responsible sex? Why abstinence, instead? Bristol's common sense response was that abstinence is the only way one can be sure to avoid pregnancy. "I know first hand that contraception is not 1,000 percent effective-- no matter how safe I thought I was being." Only abstinence is error-free. Anything else is a risk not worth taking, she said. "Just wait until you're married." Her message encourages saving yourself for your spouse, someone who actually loves you enough to give you his heart completely.

Bristol delivered her first speech last week at Lifehouse Maternity Home in Kentucky, a home for pregnant women with no place to go. She moved the crowd, and reportedly "there was not a dry eye in the place." I asked her why she thought the response to her was so great. "What was it about your message that people latched on to?"

"They saw vulnerability in me. No one knew what I went through. No one knew the emotions I had when I had to tell my parents I was pregnant. People saw that I was being vulnerable. The audience was moved that I was so willing to put myself out there."

Indeed, my teaching in the public school has always been guided by this thought: "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." Bristol's willingness to share her heart, her experiences, and even her fears during a "less than ideal circumstance," created the response in the room. Attendees saw someone who had been there and done that and cared enough to offer hope. This is why I shake my head at people who say, "How dare she talk to me about abstinence. Look what happened to her." What they miss is that there is something to be gained from someone else's experiences, from their hurts and victories, and from their willingness to be a source of encouragement to others. If only the "perfect" were qualified to reach out to pick others up, we'd all be on the floor. So I commend Bristol for handling the criticism, staying motivated in spite of the skepticism, and being undeterred by the vitriol. Someone is depending on it.

Now, I wanted to find out about Bristol Palin. I wanted to hear her story. And I wanted to share it with the world. But I certainly would have been remiss--and a fool--if I did not take the opportunity to ask some questions about her mother. Bristol spoke honestly about growing up being "the mayor's daughter" and "the governor's daughter," which helped prepare her for the attention her mother drew during, and has drawn since, the 2008 campaign. Bristol shared that she is very proud of her mother, and she expressed tangible disgust for the lies about her and the obscene signs protesters carried--a practice which continues to this day. Not holding anything back, Bristol declared, "Those people make me want to puke."

Looking back to 2008, however, the lowest low for her was the day she sat on her mother's bed and, while watching television, saw her pregnancy revealed to the world. Governor Palin has talked about this moment and how painful it was for Bristol. The pain became more palpable, however, when Bristol shared the story herself. "I just wanted to hide under a rock. This was the lowest low I've ever had."

There were incredible highs for Bristol, as well. She recalled the long road trips and the huge rallies out in the middle of nowhere, where people gathered to cheer on the vice-presidential nominee. These are times not soon forgotten, no doubt, and my take on things is that Bristol would not have exchanged those experiences for anything. None of the negativity endured along the way could take from the pride of seeing her mother work hard to help her country and witnessing the overwhelming gratitude of multitudes of Americans.

2008 is behind us now, but 2012 is certainly on the minds of many in this country, so I asked the question. I did not ask Bristol if her mom would run for President of the United States, but I did ask her if she would like to see her mother run. Without hesitation, she said that she is definitely in favor of a Palin run for the presidency. Bristol knows that her mother would be good for our country, and discussed the qualities the Governor possesses that would make her an effective leader. Bristol cited intelligence, the ability--as a mom--to multi-task, and common sense. "I know she can lead our country in the right direction." Governor Palin, of course, is bold and unafraid, refusing to sit down and shut up. In the state of Alaska, she was known as the anti-corruption politician, and isn't that what we need throughout the entire nation? Bristol said yes. "She has a track record of taking on the big boys. She's a bull dog!" I like to call her a pit bull with lipstick or Mama Grizzly, as they say.

I was curious what Bristol wanted the Governor's most ardent critics to know, and again she spoke vehemently against those who have smeared and misrepresented her, questioned her abilities, and hated her for no sound reason. "I wish people would realize how intelligent she really is, how on-point she is." Those who are paying attention do, in fact, realize the truth about Governor Palin--and that number is increasing. The lies are being exposed, and people are embracing the common sense message Governor Palin brings, despite the agenda of the lamestream media.

I ended the interview by asking Bristol about her own future. Quoting her mother, she agreed, "The world is my oyster." There are many things she wants Tripp to experience, many things she wants to accomplish. But Bristol Palin is not just focused on the many opportunites that await her and hers. She possesses a unique, mature awareness of the opportunity she has to impact the lives of others. Bristol's focus, one not often held by a young woman of 19, was summed up in this question she voiced: "What can we do to help others?" And isn't that what life is really all about? The problem is most of us don't have this epiphany until we're much older. The awareness doesn't come by accident, either. It comes as a result of believing in something larger than self, and recognizing a responsibility to take the blessing you've been given and bless others with it. It comes from moms and dads who had the choice to retreat or persevere, who counted the cost, and chose perseverance because they deemed the task worth the risk. And it comes from looking around for someone with a story to tell, the courage to tell it, and a platform to use--and then realizing that person is you.

Bristol Palin has experienced much in her short years of life--good, bad, and much in between. She's allowed these to propel her forward into a future she's creating for her son, herself, and others. Yes, she may have stumbled here and there, as her critics like to point out, but she's dancing now. Yes, she's dancing now.

Don't miss Bristol's dancing debut when the new "Dancing With the Stars" season airs next Monday, September 20th.
