"Hi, Rachelle. This is Sarah Palin" : A Personl Phone Call from Sarah Palin- A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

(I posted this post on my blog a little over a week ago, but wanted to share it here as well. Enjoy!!!)

When my good friend, Eddie Burke, was invited by the Tea Party Express to address the crowds as part of the group's across-the-country bus tour, I was so excited for him. Eddie is a great public speaker who doesn't pull any punches. I first had the honor and opportunity of getting to know Eddie when I was a frequent guest on his popular Alaska radio show. When he asked me if I could be a correspondent, covering Sarah Palin and national issues, I was so excited and jumped at the chance!!! I always tell everyone it was Eddie who gave me my first, big break. That is why is was an honor to serve under him as his press secretary when he decided to run for lieutenant governor of Alaska this past Spring. Although Eddie did not win the primary, he fought hard to the end, and I could not have been prouder of him. He truly is the voice of Alaska, and I know God has big plans for him. As the spokesperson for the newly formed Anchorage Tea Party, Eddie has made a huge impact and the popularity of this group is undeniable. Eddie's work on behalf of the tea party movement makes him a perfect fit as a speaker for the Tea Party Express. I am excited that Eddie and the Tea Party Express are coming to San Diego this Thursday. It will be fun to get to see him again and to introduce him to my family!!!

When Eddie told me he would be addressing the Tea Party Express crowd, I was so stoked for him. He also told me Sarah Palin, a fellow Alaskan and friend, would be addressing the crowd as well. I told him that he would have a blast and to keep me updated about his exciting experience. I jokingly told him that when he spoke with Sarah that I'd love to talk to her. Little did I know that this little joke would become a reality. While at work yesterday, I received a text from Eddie letting me know that Sarah may be calling me before her speech, I was speechless. This helps to illustrate just how much of a real deal and cool person Eddie Burke is!!! Those of my readers who have the pleasure of knowing him know exactly what I mean. Here is a guy who is about to address thousands of people, and he was thinking about his friend. This is just who Eddie Burke is!!!

When I saw my phone light up about 45 minutes after Eddie's text, I quietly slipped out of the room, as I was at work, and said "hello." I was so ecstatic to hear a familiar voice on the other end: "Hi, Rachelle. This is Sarah Palin." WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I mean, how cool is that??? You, regular readers of my blog, know how much I admire and look up to Sarah Palin. She is the reason why I began this blog and hold the political aspirations that I do. No words could express how much she inspires me. Although I have had the opportunity of meeting her before at her Reno book signing (I was covering the event for Eddie's show), getting this call from her made my day. It was TOTAL AWESOMENESS, as I like to say and definitely one of the BEST... DAYS... EVER!!! Sarah was so thoughtful and genuine. I will never forget her words of wisdom and the complement she gave me regarding my recent blog interview with her daughter, Bristol. I thanked her for all she has done and all she will continue to do in the name of common-sense conservatism. She is simply THE BEST and THE REAL DEAL, that's for sure!!!

I walked away from our conversation so proud of Sarah and so in awe of her character. Here is a woman, a modern-day political rock star who, just before she was to address a HUGE crowd, took the time to call this average girl- a conservative blogger, this Conservative Girl with a Voice. WOW!!! How ironic that I met her for the first time in Reno, Nevada, and she called me from Reno, Nevada.... I believe that everything happens for a reason, and God is using Sarah for His purpose. Her calling me yesterday illustrates just the kind of individual she is. Her genuine, kind and caring nature are three traits that all too often are forgotten in politics. We could use more individuals like Sarah Palin in the political arena!!! Thank you, Sarah, for making this conservative girl's day and for all you do for America!!!

SEE YA THURSDAY, EB!!!

Sarah Palin's Choice

Ruth Marcus, writing in the Washington Post, opines that Sarah Palin made "an eloquent case for choice" during her speech at the annual banquet of Vanderburgh County Right to Life. Below is the comment I left in response to her claim.

~~~
If you were writing in the 17th century, I would certainly understand why you might be uncertain about when human life begins. There is no excuse anymore for anyone to say we don't know. Technology and science show us the answer. It's obvious when human life begins. Dear lady, this is the 21st century and we have known the answer to this question for many many years.
Women experiencing unintended pregnancies necessarly experience a struggle, but the main reason for this struggle is not because she wants to kill. It is for other reasons that she feels trapped -- money, lack of family support, stigma, or perhaps a cancerous uterus can require intervention. Many things can enter into the equation that will make a woman do the unthinkable, but the desire to kill another human being isn't one of those reasons.
Abortion is proof that society has failed women. What reasons did Palin give for considering abortion? Certainly the desire to kill another person wasn't among them. No, it was what so many other women feel -- a lack of support -- a feeling of being forced to do something she really didn't want to do. That is a failure not on Palin's part or any other woman's part who considers abortion. It's a failure of society to support women who are faced with unintended pregnancy.
So what happens to these women? They decide, based on how much suffering they are willing to endure, whether or not to let this child live. (FYI: In the case of the cancerous uterus, it is morally permissible to remove the uterus to save the woman, even if the child dies, provided that there is no intent to kill involved. That is indirect killing, not direct murder.) How many women intentionally get pregnant for the reason that they want to have an abortion and kill the child? None. There is always another motive besides killing involved in the decision. No woman desires to kill........but in the 21st century, we all know, because science now proves it, that it really is killing.
So, the woman who can't bear the pressure goes to have her child killed. Society has failed her. She does the unthinkable because she feels trapped into doing so.
I have counseled many women considering abortion via a lay ministry of the Catholic Church. They all wanted life for their children but were nagged by what our culture tells them about abortion and adoption. Adoption, they would tell me, is "cruel". Society has told them this. In the end, when they understood that now there is open adoption available and when they understood that the Church stood ready to assist them whether they chose to make an adoption plan or to parent the child themselves, every woman I counseled decided against abortion........and were utterly renewed in rejoicing for doing so.
We all know it's killing. We've known for years. We tell women all sorts of things to make them want to choose killing. We fail them when we do this.
The answer? Love them both. Don't choose to love only the mother and kill the child. Don't choose to love only the child and not the mother. Love them both.
If we can reverse Dred Scott, which classified slaves as non-persons, and evolve in a relatively short amount of time, given the entire history of mankind, to elect an African-American as President of the United States, we can end abortion and empower women.
Sarah Palin is hated because she proves that women can be mothers of disabled children and governors at the same time. So, she considered abortion for, as she said, "a fleeting moment". People of character are often tempted to do wrong things when their backs are against the wall. The point is, she decided to love not only the child enough to go ahead with the pregnancy, but also to have enough faith in herself to be a hero and do the thing she knew to be right......and women can be heroes no matter what our culture tells them they can't do.
The "moral" of this story, then, is not that temptation proves we must legalize wrong things. The moral is that women can be heroes and do the right thing even if the law allows them to do the unthinkable.
Many blessings to you.
AK Governor Sarah Palin Has a Student....
Governor Palin has a student 30 years her junior -- only she does not know it -- yet. As such, you won't find this information in a gubernatorial press release or a news story. Governor Palin's student is Emma Macpherson, 15, who attends the Regina Dominican High School, a Catholic school in Evanston, IL. Emma's mother, Joan a Team Sarah member related how she became the Governor's student and granted permission to publish it:
"I really wish that Sarah could see this. My daughter is at that age where she is trying to find her niche, she is at an age where her mother wants her to do things that help her self-esteem. She had decided to run for school representative when the board said that they needed executive members, they hoped that she would step up and at that moment give a small speech to the freshman student body. She hadn't prepared anything but she did it anyway, she said to her fellow students, 'I don't want to talk about what I want to do, I want to hear from you, what do you want and then help you make that happen.' She came home and told me about this and then said, 'I felt like Sarah Palin!'"
A few hours later, Mrs. Macpherson reported that Emma won the election to the executive board of her school's student council.
Commentary
Anyone who has followed the Governor's life story and who has read Kaylene Johnson's Sarah Palin: How a Hockey Mom Turned the Political Establishment Upside Down and Joe Hilley's Sarah Palin a New Kind of Leader knows that the type of speech Emma Macpherson gave to win her position on her school's student council executive board is the same type of speech Governor Palin gave when campaigning.
One of the reasons those of us who love and support Governor Palin do so is because she listens -- even when we might disagree. This author has encountered numerous people who consider themselves center-left. Many are pro-choice. Yet, they support Governor Palin despite their disagreement with her on those issues! They support her, because she is real -- because she is one of us.
The message of listening obviously resonated with Emma Macpherson's fellow students and led her to win this election.
When this author attended Governor Palin's rally in Bethlehem, PA on October 8, 2008, the side of his his rally sign that she autographed read, "SuperSonic Sarah: Smashing Glass Ceilings from Above"...The metaphor is apropos.
Now...using Governor Palin's techniques, her student in IL hit Mach 2 and broke some glass of her own....this first sonic boom for her is a defining moment, for whatever road young Emma takes.
This is not the first time, Governor Palin has inspired someone. Quite the contrary, she has been inspiring a nation. Check out this article by Myrna Blyth, in National Review: Palin Power. Incidentally, this author's first ever blog posts bore that name.
