Saving a Spot for Sarah

This is a story that is sure to make you smile at the end, originating from Life in 3D.

A woman came in last night looking for a book by some feminist author that I had never heard of before, no big surprise there. So, I look it up in our search engine and the computer says that we might have it in the store. MIGHT have it, not WILL. So I tell her that I can check our inventory and see if it’s there and show her the section it would be in.

“No, that’s fine, I’ll find it myself. I’m going to look around a bit first”

Ten minutes later, as I’m showing another customer to 1984 I run across her in Literature looking around and she barges in to the conversation I’m having with my customer and sneers “Where is the section on Women’s rights?”

I tell her again “It’s upstairs and I’ll be happy to take you to it as soon as I am done here.”

“No, I can find it myself.” Note the lack of a ‘thank you’.

Eventually the customer accepts help, but she is complaining on the way to the section, talking all kinds of junk about how:

...the women’s studies section should be near the front of the store because it’s so important and how this author’s book should be on display because she’s doing a signing tour in California right now and she’s a NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST!!

She becomes even more disgruntled when she gets to the section because the book is nowhere to be found. According to her, the book deserves the place of honor in the store because it is the book!

You just have to love the employee's response:

“Well, ma’am, we were going to but we’re saving that spot for Sarah Palin.”

Like I said, you just have to love it!

That employee has one request, and I'll post it here, for after that exchange he deserves it:

Now all I can ask for is a signed copy of “Going Rogue” with the inscription “Instinct, Thanks for saving me a spot – Sarah”

I really hope Instinct gets his wish granted.

Sarah Palin: East Coast Races Impact All Americans

As I stand here in a high school gymnasium watching freshmen girls' basketball games, I'm struck by the sight of America's future right in front of me - these tenacious young women full of energy and intensity - I want them to realize every opportunity this great, free nation can provide.

There are big political races on the East Coast that are coming down to the wire - the results of which will impact policies and political actions that ouch all of us in every state. Like other independent Americans, you know I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Republican political committees, so when I tell you that the Republican Governors Association has my complete support and confidence in its campaign efforts back East, know that I really mean it. Let's consider the governor's race in New Jersey. The state has the highest tax burden in the country and the incumbent democrat governor has only added to the economic burden. He eliminated property tax rebates for middle class homeowners while the sales tax increased. Altogether, taxes on the people in the region have increased by billions of dollars. It’s no surprise that New Jersey has the highest nemployment rate in the region! Thankfully, there is an alternative. Residents there will be better off under an administration that understands the benefits that result when workers are allowed to keep more of what they earn. Watch New Jersey's economy come alive under new leadership that will put government back on the side of the people! Chris Christie promises this new leadership.

Fortunately, New Jersey's democrat governor is being held accountable with the RGA spending $7 million in the New York and Philadelphia media markets telling the truth about a liberal sdministrative record while highlighting New Jersey's tax-hiking ways, and reminding voters there is an alternative! Then in Virginia - there is a clear difference between Republican Bob McDonnell and his liberal opponent. Republican Bob McDonnell is fighting for cheaper American energy and lower taxes, while his opponent wants to raise taxes, and, amazingly, even bragged about having more earmarks than any other state legislator. Bob McDonnell promises to fight for Virginia's hard working families, and he opposes some heavy-handed union leadership efforts that could ultimately hurt employers and employees. Americans who believe in smaller government and free enterprise have a chance to show Washington that people all across the U.S. don’t want an ever-increasing national debt, more dependency on foreign energy sources and more wasteful government spending. If, like me, this is what you want to show Washington, then I hope you'll support Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell, and the RGA, as great efforts are put forth in these East Coast races.

The young student athletes I'm watching right now are counting on us to do the right thing - to fight for what is right for America today, and into their future. Electing candidates with common sense and respect for freedom is one way we can fight for what is right.

Sarah Palin: Principles Over Party? In a New York Minute!

I'm a New Yorker, so let me chime in on this...

Last week Governor Palin endorsed the Conservative-party candidate, Doug Hoffman, over Republican, Dede Scozzafava, in the New York 23rd Congressional District. A bold move, which we should be used to by now with Sarah. The endorsement has been a conversation-piece since the moment she made it. Whereas Newt Gingrich endorsed Scozzafava, those who put their money where their mouth is could never make such an endorsement.

Regardless of the 'R' next to her name, Scozzafava is more of a Liberal than many Liberals are. She is a far cry from a true Republican standing on conservative principles. For some, that's okay, for as long as the 'R' remains by her name, they are content to lend their support. What's that all about? If we don't stand for something, what are we doing?

Apparently Newt Gingrich doesn't get it because he endorsed a woman who is certainly not abiding by the principles of the Party. And what's his attitude toward people like Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson, and Governor Pawlenty who have put principles over Party by endorsing Hoffman, a true conservative? "Mind your business!" he screams at them. Meanwhile he's not exactly minding his, for the last time I checked he did not live in New York-23.

Scozzafava is no conservative. She is a RINO (Republican in Name Only), and we can no longer afford to elect people who are not willing to stand up for the principles the people expect them to. Too much is at stake. She does not set herself apart from Democrats, so why would any Republican, who truly cares about principles, support her? It makes no sense.

However, not everyone is willing to go on record--putting their names on the line in the process--for going against "the family." Some would rather remain silent, like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. Perhaps they find remaining silent easier than bucking the Party for the sake of principles. But by now we ought to expect better of Sarah. She is principled, if nothing else. Remember, in Alaska she took on corrupt politicians regardless of their Party because doing the right thing is doing the right thing--PERIOD. In this case, supporting Scozzafava is not doing the right thing. Here's a woman who approved of the stimulus plan, supports abortion, and is a threat to the traditional family.

Governor Palin supports Doug Hoffman for good reasons, as noted on her Facebook page (emphasis mine):

The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.

And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.

Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.

Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of "blurring the lines" between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race. This is why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party's ticket.

There's been an on-going debate about what the Republican Party must do to "right the ship." Many say we need to move further to the Left, to sell out the values upon which we have been built. In the midst of that nonsensical chit-chat, some, like Governor Palin, are standing up for principles. If that means they have to step away from a professing Republican who does not represent those principles, so be it. Again, doing the right thing is doing the right thing.

When Governor Palin announced on July 3rd that she would be stepping down from the office of governor, she expressed clearly what she would do next (emphasis mine).

And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.

I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska - or Outside Alaska.

Both the mainstream media and the "political machine" played stupid, like they couldn't figure out what Governor Palin meant. Maybe now they get the picture: She meant exactly what she said.

75 % Say They Will Buy "Going Rogue" Rather Than "Going Rouge" Parody

NPR has been conducting an online poll since last week to find out whether Sarah Palin's Going Rogue or the Going Rouge parody (to use a nice word) has a greater potential audience. According to Mark Memmott:

"We began this poll about the parody last week, and by 7:15 a.m. ET this morning more than 6,600 people had voted. The results as of that moment:

-- 75% said: "Hate it! I'll buy Rogue.
-- 16% said: "Love it! I'll buy Rouge.
-- 9% said: "Count me out. I don't want either book".

As we noted last week, besides the clever difference in the titles there will be one very easy way to tell the difference between the books (which both hit stores the week of Nov. 16).

Rouge (the parody) is going to be a paperback. Rogue (Palin's memoir) will be a hardcover."

Values DO Matter: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Tim Pawlenty and Mike Huckabee have something in common other than the fact that they are prominent Republican men. The commonality these men share is the fact that they have yet to endorse the third-party Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman in New York's 23rd District Race. By now, you all know Newt Gingrich endorsed the liberal Republican, Dede Scozzafava (whom, by the way, is even more liberal than the Democrat in the race) recently, but Pawlenty and Huckabee have yet to take a stand. Now, to me, your little humble blogger, the decision is an easy one. When you look at Hoffman and Scozzafava, it is clear that the only true conservative in the race is Hoffman. What's so hard about making a decision based upon values and principle instead of party? I'm not even going to discuss the displeasure I have in Gingrich's decision, for that would have to be an entire new blog entry in itself, and I don't want to pain you in having to read an entire post about Newt Gingrich and Dede Scozzafava’s newly formed partnership. Instead, I want to focus today's random thought post on Pawlenty, Huckabee and Palin, all of whom are possible 2012 presidential contenders.




Values over party- that's exactly what Sarah chose when she threw her support behind Hoffman. In doing so, she illustrated the maverick streak we, her supporters, have come to know and love. In "shaking things up," Sarah did exactly what needed to be done. As I discussed earlier this week, the Republican Party has drifted further and further away from its core principles and ideals. Sarah made an important statement; literally taking a stand by basically saying enough is enough. While you may call yourself a Republican, values matters. If you don't believe in the values that once made the Republican Party the Grand Old Party it once was, then you don't deserve to be supported. If you are going to support many of the same issues as your Democratic counterpart, then you need to realize that the conservative base is going to look elsewhere. In this case, Hoffman IS the other option, the better option. As Sarah mentioned in her Facebook Note, endorsing Hoffman is a matter of principle:

"Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.... Political parties must stand for something."


Sarah is exactly right. Once again, she is doing what she always has done: Talking the talk AND walking the walk. It's too bad that the same cannot be said for her Republican counterparts. Unlike Sarah, who is actually taking a stand, Pawlenty and Huckabee have yet to follow suit.




I find it very striking that while individuals like Huckabee and Pawlenty have no problem speaking out against the Obama Administration, they seem to become tight-lipped on issues that matter most. As a voter, I see this as a clear example of putting party first at the expense of doing what's right. It is clear that Scozzafava makes Rinos like Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe look like conservatives. Yet, Pawlenty and Huckabee refuse to take a stand. Instead of simply saying that they don't want to go against the Republican Party, they give excuses, saying things like they don't know enough about the race or haven't researched the candidates enough. Give me a break; do they really think we are that stupid? This election has been discussed on every news network, so unless they've been hiking the Appalachian Trail, I think they know enough to know which candidate shares their values. Here's what Huckabee told Neil Cavuto yesterday about the race and Conservative Party Candidate Hoffman:



"Certainly his views represent more closely to mine.... I'm not taking a role in that with my PAC, simply because I feel like it would be inappropriate with me at this point -- mainly because I'm already speaking to the Conservative Party next week. But it is not an endorsement speech, it is an awards speech, and I don't want to get the two confused.... I'm never gonna support somebody who does not believe that every human life has value and meaning. I'm not gonna support people who would do things like say TARP is one of those great, wonderful things. I think I have a right and responsibility to only support people who hold to principles, above party and above just the politics of winning and losing."



So, let me get this straight. While Huckabee is not going to endorse the liberal Republican Party candidate, he is not going to support a man who believes in the same things he does? For the sake of conservatism, take a stand! Stop using the Republican Party, for its current state serves as a roadblock that is blocking the way for the real change that is necessary to reclaim America and the Republican Party. Readers, it gets even better; here's what Pawlenty said about the race:


"You know I haven't been following that, I haven't studied the race at all.... It's not that I would or wouldn't, I just don't know anything about it. I haven't taken the time to study their positions, their records, so I haven't taken a position on it.


I think we're going to win them both.... In New Jersey, I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. But it sure looks like Republicans are going to win in Virginia. New Jersey's going to be a closer call, but that's also a tougher state for Republicans. But if the election were held today I think we'd win them both."



Don't you just love it? While I respect both of these men, I have to admit that I have lost a lot of the respect I once held for reasons like the quotes above. These men live and breath politics, but it seems that the establishment has clouded their good judgment.



Instead of standing up and doing the right thing, they seem to care more about the Republican Party itself and the money and favors they receive and will continue to receive as long as they keep under the Republican Party's thumbs. It's time these men and other individuals like them realize that the Republican Party is not all it's cracked up to be. Don't misunderstand me. I value the Republican Party, but I want THE Republican Party back; I want the Grand Old Party of Ronald Reagan. The Republican Party that, at one time, stood for all of the right things: smaller government, fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and strong national defense. The Republican Party has a long way to go before it once again is the party of right, but in standing up for the Conservative Party candidate, individuals like Sarah, Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann are sending a clear message to the Republican Party establishment that values do matter. In standing up and taking a stand, Sarah and Michele prove, yet again, that they more guts than their male counterparts will ever have! The Republican Party could use a lot more guts and a lot less playing the fence.
