Grimm: Straight from the Heart

In this mailing sent today, GOP Congressional candidate Michael Grimm describes how the America's fundamental transformation currently underway prompted him to run for Congress. "To me, it was like something precious being lost. Our country, the America we’ve always known, was becoming, bit by bit, a little less like that same country. Sometimes the changes were barely noticeable, or maybe they were covered up, but they were there."

Grimm is running for New York’s 13th Congressional District, which covers Staten Island and part of Brooklyn. He is campaigning against Michael Allegretti for the GOP nomination in the September 14th primary. The nominee runs against Congressman McMahon. Governor Palin endorsed Grimm on July 28, 2010. US for Palin Publisher, Ron Devito is campaigning for Grimm. He walked door-to-door in the 60th Election District, installed lawn signs in the 10314 zip code, and is going to walk door to door in the 79th Election District and is set to get out the vote and be a poll closer on primary day.

Dear Friend:

“Uh-oh, here we go.” That’s the reaction of many people when they get a letter from a professional politician running for office. Those letters are carefully written…they hem and haw…weave in and out…play it safe…and tell the voters almost nothing. That’s not what you’ll get in this letter—if you would be so kind as to take a few minutes to read it.

This is my very first run for political office. I don’t have the usual political background, and I see my task as telling you who I am, why I’m running, what I think about things, and what I’d like to do—all in plain English.

I don’t care if some people think it’s corny or unsophisticated, but I love the whole idea of patriotism, respect for country, the flag, and all the rest. My parents were very big on such things, so I guess that’s where it came from.

It was this thinking that motivated me to join the U.S. Marines early on and see combat service in the Persian Gulf War. It was the same thinking that prompted me to join the FBI, where I worked as an undercover agent on cases ranging from the world of Organized Crime to the corridors of Wall Street fraud.

In both instances, it was the chance to serve our country that I found most satisfying, maybe because it came naturally to me. This became clear as a bell when an opportunity to pursue a lucrative career in the financial sector paled in comparison to what I knew I really loved.

Recognizing the importance of education, I studied and earned two degrees, one in law and one in accounting. And I also became, and still am today, a small business owner, learning first-hand how heavy-handed big government policies adversely affect the small business community in America.

But, more and more, beginning about a year ago, I began to feel uneasy, unsure, even worried about the things I was seeing, hearing and reading regarding our country. It wasn’t just me. I listened to many people expressing concern about the direction in which we were headed. And all the polls confirmed that this sentiment was growing nationwide.

To me, it was like something precious being lost. Our country, the America we’ve always known, was becoming, bit by bit, a little less like that same country. Sometimes the changes were barely noticeable, or maybe they were covered up, but they were there.

I thought about an economy in which costs and taxes are up, but not wages. And about small business folks who, if they worked harder to earn more money and expand, got punished, not rewarded, with higher taxes. Since small businesses are the biggest job creators in America, this is, for so many unemployed Americans, a tragic state of affairs.

I also thought about my generation of Americans (I’m now 40) as being the first not likely to be able to give their children more than they had. That’s never been the American way.

And there’s something else that really bothers me. I look around at people—just average people without any special influence or connections—and they typically go about their lives in a quiet manner. But when they do speak out, today’s Washington ignores them. They said no to higher taxes—but got them. They expressed a desire for less government spending—and the government spent more. They said they wanted health care reform, but not Obamacare—and they got Obamacare. The stimulus? Bailouts? The people said no. The government said yes—and that was that, period.

Well, the time for talking about the wrong-way trends in Washington these days is over. Action is needed, and I feel the front lines calling once again. This time, however, those lines can be found smack in the middle of the United State Congress. And that’s where I’d like to take the fight, sleeves rolled up, ready to work around the clock to turn things around and get our country back on track before it’s too late.

There is some good news. Americans are finally angry—and they’re expected this year to elect lots of new people to Congress, many of whom will share my view that the Obama Administration’s direction is the wrong one.

Were I granted the honor of serving as your Congressman, I would work closely with every one of them—reporting regularly to YOU along the way—on very specific ways to get our economy growing, make our nation stronger and safer, and, yes, start to get that great-to-be-an-American feeling very much in the air once again.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and may God bless you, your loved ones, and our nation.

Sincerely,

Michael Grimm

P.S. – Politicians running for office like to talk about their experience, meaning their years in government, though not the politics involved in getting them there. Well, people with lots of ‘experience’ dominate Washington these days—and look at the mess they’ve made. Could it be that a few determined members of Congress who DON’T have political backgrounds can help to pave a better way, cut through the politics-as-usual clutter, and actually get a few things done? I’d sure like to take a crack at it. Thanks again.

Palin Talks O'Donnell Endorsement, and more on Hannity Radio

Gov. Palin on Hannity retrieved from PalinTV.

Gov. Palin today endorsed Christine O’Donnell and spoke about the economy, the proposed (currently canceled) Koran-burning, the congressional races, and more on Sean Hannity's radio program.

Debunking Another Lie: Gov. Palin is NOT Receiving Fee for 9/11 AK Event

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Time and time again, people jump the gun in their determination to characterize Governor Palin as someone unworthy of America's trust. And time and time again, they are proven wrong.

Today's complaints centered around the teaming of Glenn Beck and the Governor on 9/11 in Alaska, which was announced here. Without knowing the facts, people have run off at the mouth, accusing them of profitting from this event. Jonathan Capehart is one such person. He writes:

"Restoring America" apparently wasn't enough for Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. They now appear to be cashing in on the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

[...]

If building a Muslim community center dedicated to human understanding and tolerance two blocks from Ground Zero "stabs hearts," then how should taking money from people at an event "to commemorate 9/11" be described? Disrespectful. Distatesful. Shameful. Greedy. Narcissistic. Did I leave any adjectives out?

No, you just left the facts out. So let's set the record straight on Governor Palin--again.

Via CNN (emphasis added):

A Beck spokesperson says Sarah Palin is not receiving an appearance fee, and Beck is donating his to charity.

"Glenn had always intended to donate the speaking fee from the event on Saturday, September 11th in Alaska to Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Governor Palin is not and was never going to receive a fee for introducing Glenn at this event," a spokesperson for Glenn Beck told CNN.

Retraction, anybody?

Gov. Palin Urges Pastor to "Stand Down" on Koran Burning, and Today He Does. Now Extremists Need to "Stand Down"

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Pastor Terry Jones has abandoned his plans to burn Korans. Reuters reports:

A Christian pastor said on Thursday he was canceling a plan to burn the Koran, which had drawn international condemnation and a warning from President Barack Obama that it could provoke al Qaeda suicide bombings.

Terry Jones, who heads the tiny Dove World Outreach Center church in the Florida university town of Gainesville, told journalists outside his church in this Florida town that he was calling off his plan.

He said at the same time that an agreement had been reached with Muslim leaders to move the location of an Islamic cultural center and mosque planned close to the site of the September 11 attacks in New York.

But sources close to New York Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said there was no agreement to move the site of the proposed Muslim cultural center.

The planned location has been opposed by many who have said it is insensitive to families of the 2001 victims of the attacks by militant Islamist group al Qaeda.

Jones said he had been promised by Muslim leaders in New York that the location would be changed.

Earlier world leaders had joined the president in denouncing Jones' plan to burn copies of the Islamic holy book on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks that killed almost 3,000 people.

Read more here.

The plan to burn the Korans was the wrong tactic, misrepresented Christianity, and was an "unnecessary provocation," as expressed by Governor Palin yesterday when she urged here that he "stand down" on this plan. President Obama later addressed the issue.

The Governor had tweeted the following:

Book burning=bad;Cleric running 4 Afghan Parliament calling 4 murder of US children n response 2 scorched Korans=worse. Where's media focus?

After Pastor Jones decided to "stand down" today, she tweeted:

Book burner "stands down" -good! Now, followers of book who want to kill innocents bc some people do things you don't agree with: Stand Down

Amen.

Susannah Fleetwood On Why the Left is Fleeing Vanity Fair Hit Piece

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

News Real Blog's Susannah Fleetwood drops the dime on why she thinks even the Left is avoiding the Vanity Fair hit piece on Governor Palin.

She writes:

So, why the mad dash away from this column by the leftist elites? It’s bashing Sarah Palin, so one would think that they would love it. Well, without much ado and mincing any words, I can tell you the four major reasons why so-called liberals can’t seem to distance themselves from this column fast enough.

The points include such things as Mr. Gross' poor writing, use of anonymous sources, blatant sexism, and verifiable inaccuracies. Add to this his strange obsession with Governor Palin's underwear, and there's no small wonder even Palin Derangement Syndrome sufferers don't want anything to do with this.

Fleetwood ends the article with this:

So, in conclusion, Michael Gross not only not only [sic] made a flaming ass out of himself, but he also totally humiliated the so-called liberal mainstream media. He managed to bring every caricature of an elitist, egotistical, out of touch, so-called liberal journalist to life. And the worst part was that he was incredibly sloppy with many of the facts–which in turn, discredits his entire piece. Credible leftist/progressive journalists and columnists can’t flee from his disaster of a column fast enough–and I don’t blame them.

However, sad to say, this isn’t the first time that Vanity Fair has written an outrageous, totally unsourced hit piece on a politician. During the 2008 campaign Todd Purdum wrote a totally unsourced hit piece in Vanity Fair about Bill Clinton, implying that he was openly dating while campaigning for Hillary in South Carolina. (Whatever you may think of Bill Clinton, I live in SC. If Bill Clinton was going out publicly clubbing and picking up women, someone, somewhere would have seen him. SC is a small state.) Furthermore, Purdum then wrote a totally unsourced hit piece on Sarah Palin a year later. Surprise, surprise. (Has anyone ever noticed that Vanity Fair has never written an unsourced hit piece on Barack Obama?)

But now, Vanity Fair’s chickens have come home to roost. They have gotten away with writing unsourced hit pieces for so long, that they got over-confident. This time, they gave Michael Gross carte blanche to pretty much write what ever he damn well pleased–muddled facts, sexism, stalkers, underwear and all. To tell the truth, I’m not at all surprised that some columnist, somewhere, would write something like this; however, I am surprised that any editor would actually go through with publishing it. Basically, Vanity Fair unintentionally gave Michael Gross just enough rope to hang himself, and Vanity Fair’s credibility in the process. Michael Gross’ column should serve as a cautionary tale for progressive journalists everywhere. Don’t let your love of all things Obama and your hatred of Sarah Palin get the best of you–or you will wind up proving Sarah Palin correct about the “lamestream media”.
