If it is so important to the left to stop Sarah Palin from running for President, then it is that much more important that she run - and win!

Transcript Of Special Report with Bret Baier on FNC (Monday, May 31):
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: The fundamental deception here is the use of the word "humanitarian." As we saw, humanitarians don’t wield iron clubs and would have killed the Israelis had the Israelis not drawn their pistols in self-defense. But there’s a larger issue here. What exactly is the humanitarian crisis that the flotilla was actually addressing? There is none. There’s no one starving in Gaza. The Gazans have been supplied with food and social services, education, by the U.N., by UNRWA, for 60 years in part with American tax money. Second, when there are humanitarian needs, the Israelis allow every day food and medicine overland into Gaza.
The reason that it did not want to allow this flotilla is because, as the spokesman for the flotilla said herself, this was not about humanitarian relief, it was about breaking the blockade. And the reason the Israelis have a blockade is because they only want to allow humanitarian supplies and not weaponry. Look, the proof of that is the fact that if you look at a map of Gaza, you’ll see that Israelis only control three sides of this rectangle. There’s a fourth side on the Egyptian side. So it is an Egyptian-Israeli blockade. The Egyptians have the same problem with Gaza. People accuse Israelis of having a blockade because they're racist, they’re anti-Muslim, anti-Arab. The Egyptians are Muslim and Arab, and they’ve gone to war three times on behalf of the Palestinians.
So why do they have exactly the same blockade? Because Gaza is run by Hamas, a terror entity that wants to import weaponry and resume the war against Israel. The man who made the announcement that we saw earlier, explaining the commando raid, is the defense minister of Israel. He’s not right winger. He’s Ehud Barak, who’s the leader of Labor, the party of Yitzhak Rabin, Golda Meir, the party of the left, the man who 10 years ago this summer offered the Palestinians a peace agreement that would provide a Palestinian state, division of Jerusalem and an end of the conflict. The Palestinians said no, and Gaza two years ago declared war on Israel. That's why you’ve got a blockade, and the flotilla was not about humanitarian needs. It was about smashing the blockade.
KRAUTHAMMER: I am somewhat encouraged by the fact that the U.S. has not joined the lynch mob at the U.N. attacking Israel on this and thus far have held off. I hope it will exercise a veto if it has to because Israel clearly is a victim here. If these people had wanted humanitarian aid, Israel offered to take the ships into Haifa, peacefully, unload all the stuff inside and to allow all the humanitarian aid immediately into Gaza, all the food and medicine. And it was refused because it was meant to be a provocation and to create an incident.
Let’s cut to the chase here: Barack Obama, and most of the Marxist-democrat party have little or no use for Israel or the Jewish people. Since Jimmy Carter, another terrorist sympathizer, and well known anti-Semite, the democrat party has been hostile toward Israel and the Jewish people, but they tried to hide it from American Jews.
With the election of Barack Obama, who has marinated in hatred for America and Israel since childhood, the mask has come off the Marxist-democrat party. As anyone who was paying attention knows, Barack Obama attended the "church" of Reverend Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright for over 20 years. Wright is a well known anti-Semite and supporter of the terrorist group Hamas.
Since taking office, Obama has been on a real crusade to alienate all of our friends worldwide, and coddle our enemies. Great Britain now says that they, and America, no longer have a "special relationship." But no where is Obama’s ass-backwards foreign policy more apparent than with his policies towards both Iran and Israel.
Israel has been an ally and friend, of the United States since her founding. The one true friend in the Middle East. Obama has done everything in his power to alienate Israel and the Jewish people. This culminated last week when Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu was treated like an outcast at the White House, with Obama refusing to be photographed with him, and rudely ending their meeting to go have dinner with the First Lady. A major case of jackassery. . .
I guess we should all be thankful he wasn’t kicked out the back door and forced to walk past the garbage like the Dalai Lama!
On the other hand, Iran is our sworn enemy. To them, we are "The Great Satan." They have "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" rallies on a pretty regular basis to keep their oppressed people occupied.
In a manner that would make Neville Chamberlain blush, Obama has sought has to appease this fanatical regime. Iran is the world’s leading sponsor of terror and has been supplying weapons that have killed American troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Most would consider this casus belli for war, but Barack Obama can’t even bring himself to talk about meaningful sanctions against the terrorist nation.
Even more disturbing, when the Iranian people, most who are not fanatics, tried to rise up and overthrow the Iranian government, Obama was no where to be found. As Iranians were slaughtered in the streets and looked to America for support, Obama sat silent.
That told everyone who was watching all they needed to know about Obama and the kind of "man" he is.
Sarah Palin has been a consistent friend to Israel, and has been hitting Obama on his stance for some time, but it’s pretty easy to see that she has become impatient with his inability to lead our nation, protect us, or our allies. As Sarah put it earlier, this situation "needs a commander-in-chief, not a Harvard law professor. "
With that said:
Peace Not Possible if Iran Escapes Real Sanctions
This is a meaningful week for so many of us. As millions of Christians and Jews celebrate this Holy Week, it’s appropriate to reflect on developments in the Holy Land. Israel faces a nuclear threat from Iran that grows every day. Today we learned that the CIA has concluded that Iran already has the capability and the know-how to build nuclear weapons. While President Obama once said a nuclear-armed Iran would be "unacceptable," after more than a year in office it’s sobering to have to acknowledge that his administration has made no progress in implementing "crippling" sanctions on Iran, let alone halting Iran’s nuclear program.
Even the rhetoric moved in the wrong direction – recently the administration downgraded their call for "crippling" sanctions to sanctions that "bite." Shockingly, as we learned last week, these "biting" sanctions will no longer include actions that could actually change Iran’s behavior, including limiting Iran’s access to international capital markets and banking services or closing air space and waters to Iran’s national air and shipping lines.
So the issue is not when the so-called sanctions will come (President Obama promised them in "weeks" today) but whether they will even "nibble." And while the Obama administration was more than willing to use every parliamentary trick in the book to ram its government health care takeover through Congress, conversely, it has worked hard to stall bipartisan efforts to pass the Iran Sanctions Act.
Many, many Americans and our allies know that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, the consequences will be catastrophic for our interests in the Middle East, and we want our government to do everything in its power to prevent Iran from acquiring nukes.
We foresee a regional nuclear arms race beginning as other countries seek their own nuclear weapons to protect themselves from Iran. Nuclear non-proliferation efforts would be over. The U.S. and our allies in the international community would be shown to be impotent – after long claiming that Iranian nuclear weapons could not and would not be tolerated. And Israel would face the gravest threat since its creation.
Iran’s leaders have repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel and with nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them, the mullahs would be in a position to launch a Second Holocaust.
Iran continues to develop long range missiles. Its missiles can reach Israel and Europe right now and in time they will be able to reach US territory.
This issue is the most serious security challenge facing the U.S. in the region. Yet just as the Obama administration inexplicably gives up on imposing crippling sanctions on Iran, it’s taken an uncompromising hard line against one country in the Middle East: Israel. On his recent visit to Washington, the Israeli Prime Minister was treated like an unwelcome guest, as shown by White House actions such as refusing to be photographed with Israel’s Prime Minister.
Public demands for concessions have been made of the Israelis while the Palestinians add ever more conditions to their participation in peace talks, and those in the administration that dare to argue for looking at these policies through the lens of Israel’s security needs are subject to slanderous attacks from "senior administration officials." The Obama administration has their priorities exactly backwards; we should be working with our friend and democratic ally to stop Iran’s nuclear program, not throwing in the towel on sanctions while treating Israel like an enemy.
In a week when events in the Holy Land thousands of years ago are on the minds of millions, we would all do well to include Israel’s security in our prayers as we encourage our government to do all it can to ensure there is never a nuclear Iran able to threaten our interests or our allies.
- Sarah Palin
Jimmy Carter put the world in peril with his appeasement mentality. He is very much responsible for the fact there is a radical Iran. This Obama guy though is Carter on steroids, and 2010 is a lot more dangerous than the late 1970's. Iran has sought to form alliances with other enemies of America such as Venezuela and Cuba.
We all remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the Soviets placed nuclear weapons on the island nation. That’s as close as the world ever came to total Armageddon. The only thing that saved the world was the fact that one nation was scared and the other was glad of it. While the Soviets wanted some bargaining leverage, they weren’t all that keen on actually touching off total worldwide destruction, which is basically what the doctrine of "mutually assured destruction" promised had they launched a nuclear weapon at the United States.
On the other hand, Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders, aren’t as squeamish about the prospects of touching off a world wide nuclear war and the total destruction of all mankind.
Many nations have nuclear weapons now, and one can most certainly debate whether that is good or bad. The thing is though, these nations are not looking to use them as much as they are looking to send the message "mess with us, and we’ll mess back." It’s definitely a deterrent for sober nations.
There has been much written about Obama’s jihad on Israel, and ludicrous foreign policy. Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs) has written some of the best.
The United States has diverted a shipment of bunker-busters designated for Israel.
Officials said the U.S. military was ordered to divert a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs from Israel to a military base in Diego Garcia. They said the shipment of 387 smart munitions had been slated to join pre-positioned U.S. military equipment in Israel Air Force bases.
"This was a political decision," an official said.
In 2008, the United States approved an Israeli request for bunker-busters capable of destroying underground facilities, including Iranian nuclear weapons sites. Officials said delivery of the weapons was held up by the administration of President Barack Obama.
Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E.
"All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010," a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. "This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly."
Pamela goes into greater detail and you can read much more here.
In Switching Sides, commentary she wrote for the American Thinker, Pamela gives us a bit of a history lesson to go with thoughts on Obama’s betrayals of the Jewish people:
In a stunning and historic reversal of American foreign policy, the United States is now backing one of the same horses it fought during World War II. Instead of fighting against Nazism and racism, Obama has effectively joined the jihad waged during World War II by the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini.
Hamas has called for a new intifada against the Jewish people. This is the fruit of Obama's pro-jihad policies. The American-Israeli relationship has suffered its deepest rift in decades: a dispute over new Jewish homes that are being built in northern Jerusalem, just north of the Sanhedria neighborhood. This is not Arab "East Jerusalem," as the mainstream media keeps saying. And as Palestinians threw stones at Israeli soldiers at checkpoints and Muslims rioted throughout Jerusalem, an increasingly pathetic Hillary Clinton said that Israel "must prove it is committed to peace 'with actions.'"
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying, "With regard to commitments to peace, the government of Israel has proven over the last year that it is committed to peace, both in words and actions." According to Haaretz, "The statement cited as examples Netanyahu's inaugural foreign policy speech made at Bar Ilan University, the removal of hundreds of roadblocks across the West Bank, and its decision to freeze temporarily construction in West Bank settlements. The latter, said the statement, was even called by Clinton an 'unprecedented' move."
The Muslims are free to live in Israel, but Jews cannot live among Muslims or in Muslim lands. This is what America is standing up for?
Read much more of Pamela’s sobering commentary here.
Obama is not a passive, weak or naive player in the Muslim/Jewish conflict. He was wet-nursed on Jew-hatred. He grew up in a Muslim country and studied the Koran. He knows what is prescribed for the Jews in Islam. He knows that the Koran says that the Jews are the Muslims’ worst enemies (5:82) and that "ignominy shall be their portion wheresoever they are found" (3:112).
He knows that Islamic tradition records Muhammad saying:
The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.
He must know all this, and yet has never renounced it. On the contrary, he embraces it, calling upon us to "respect" Islam.
I am staggered by the speed with which Obama has sought to undermine the Jewish people. But knowing what I know of him after my three years of investigation for the book I wrote with Robert Spencer, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America, I expected nothing different. In the summer of 2008, I trekked to Florida to warn the alter cockers who were seduced by the idea of Obama, but to no avail: my voice and the voices of those like me are kept neatly tucked away in the blog box.
But now here we are. Jews may then have tried to avoid Obama’s anti-Semitism, but they cannot now avoid the consequences of avoiding Obama’s anti-Semitism. He has unleashed an evil in this world the extent of which we are only now beginning to see. He has made the world safe for haters and killers. The post-World War II peace was no accident; it was a direct result of American hegemony. But now he is following the European lead and unraveling it.
Europe learned the wrong lessons from the war and the Holocaust. The lesson that Europe decided to take from Auschwitz was that everything was caused by nationalism. European leaders decided that therefore what they really needed was a European Union that would obviate their need for nationalism and prevent another Auschwitz.
The frightening part of this all is, while Jimmy Carter showed massive weakness in the face of danger, Obama is showing both weakness, and complicity, an incredibly dangerous combination. On has to wonder what sort of psychosis this mad man suffers.
Not only is he putting the world in peril with his foreign policy and his reluctance, and inability to lead, (along with his hatred for Israel) domestically, he is dividing and destroying the United States, with his war on capitalism, the Constitution, the rule of law, and the American people..
All things considered, Barack Obama may be the most dangerous man in the world.
Not since noted anti-Semite Jimmy Carter was President has our relationship with Israel been so strained. The Obama administration has been openly hostile to Israel since day one, while reaching out to our worst enemies in the Middle East.
While Obama and his minions scold Israel over the slightest of things, Iran, a nation that vows to wipe both Israel and the United States off the map, is developing nuclear weapons, and making more threats to the world. Obama has done nothing meaningful to stop this. He is impotent.
You know, speaking of Jimmy Carter, he has to be one happy guy these days. Not only is Barack Obama a bigger failure than Carter, domestically, no small feat BTW, he has also managed to turn America into a laughing stock around the world. Obama has done of this in record time too, far surpassing Jimmy Carter’s worthlessness. So, we are quite sure Carter is pleased that he will no longer be referred to as our worst President eveh.
With that said, Sarah Palin has always been a friend of Israel, and has been speaking out loudly in support of our ally. We wrote earlier that Sarah’s friendship with Israel was strong. You can read all about that, as well as comments from Caroline Glick from the Jerusalem Post, here.
Today Sarah issued a statement in support of our Jewish friends and sternly scolds Obama on his foreign policies:
Needed: A Reset with Israel
The Obama Administration reaches out to some of the world’s worst regimes in the name of their engagement policy. America and our allies watch as sanctions are eased on Cuba. Letters are written to Iran’s mullahs only to see that regime start killing protestors in the streets of Tehran. Envoys are sent to North Korea as they continue to defy the world’s demand to give up their nuclear weapons.
The Burmese military junta’s representative is allowed to travel to our nation's capital. The President’s envoy for Sudan talks about giving that genocidal regime "gold stars," while the President shakes hands with Venezuela’s tyrannical leader. In the midst of all this embracing of enemies, where does the Obama Administration choose to escalate a minor incident into a major diplomatic confrontation? With Iran, Cuba, Sudan, North Korea or Burma? No. With our treasured ally, Israel.
Last October, Secretary of State Clinton recognized Israel's desire for peace in the Middle East and praised Israel's "unprecedented" concessions for agreeing to halt settlement construction in the West Bank, a concession that did NOT include halting construction of apartments for Jews in Jerusalem. Even last week after planned construction was announced, Vice President Biden still expressed "appreciation" for the "significant" steps taken by the Israeli government to address this minor issue.
Now, however, we see the Obama Administration has decided to escalate, make unilateral demands of Israel, and threaten the very foundation of the US-Israel relationship. This is quickly leading to the worst crisis in US-Israel relations in decades, and yet this did not have to happen. More importantly, it needs to stop before it spirals out of control. Vice President Biden should rein in the overheated Obama Administration rhetoric and chill the political spin masters' fire as they visit the Sunday media shows to criticize Israel.
Once again, the Obama Administration is missing the boat on a very, very important issue. They need to go back to the basics and acknowledge Palestinian leaders have not progressed any peace process since President Obama was elected. As Israel makes concessions (and is still criticized by the Obama Administration),
Arab leaders are just sitting back waiting for the White House to further pressure Israel. The Obama Administration needs to open its eyes and recognize that it is only Iran and her terrorist allies that benefit from this manufactured Israeli controversy.
Vice President Biden was actually right when he said last week, before the construction announcement, that "one necessary precondition for progress is that the rest of the world knows...there is absolutely no space between the United States and Israel when it comes to security." Right now, thanks to the Obama Administration, there is a chasm. It's time for President Obama to push the reset button on our relations with our ally Israel.
-Sarah Palin
No truer words have been spoken. It is indeed time to reset our relationship with our ally, Israel, and develop reasonable foreign policy to combat our many enemies.
Sarah is not the only one speaking out on this serious issue. Yesterday, Joe Lieberman and John McCain took to the Senate floor:
Lieberman, McCain call on Admin to "lower voices" on Israel
Senators Joe Lieberman, D-CT, and John McCain, R-AZ, , just took to the Senate floor to call on the Obama Administration to end its condemnation of Israel over the actions of a bureaucrat during the recent visit to that country by Vice President Joe Biden. The message from the two was pretty simple: It's time to lower voices and get over the family feud.
Both senators, longtime allies and proponents of Israel, particularly Lieberman, said the Administration needs to recognize that the feud opens up a potential avenue for "enemies" of the U.S. (they named Iran mostly, and Syria) to exploit.
During a visit to Israel last week to help start indirect peace talks, however modest, Eli Yishai, Israel's interior minister, announced the construction of new housing units in disputed east Jerusalem. Many U.S. commentators called it "the diplomatic slap heard 'round the world.'
By all accounts, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was blindsided by the announcement, every bit as much as Biden.
Biden, who was to dine with Netanyahu afterward, kept the Israeli leader waiting for 90 minutes and then, in a statement released during the meal, used rather explosive diplomatic words, not usually heard between the allies, words that Lieberman today called "a little strong."
"I condemn the decision by the government of Israel to advance planning for new housing units in East Jerusalem," Biden said in the statement.
Lieberman and McCain seemed to say that had the condemnation stopped there, it might have been o.k. But the added criticism by the Secretary of State and the Administration's top political adviser, along with the State Department spokesman, set the duo off.
Lieberman called the rhetoric "very troubling."
Secretary Clinton and David Axelrod offered stinging rebukes of Israel's actions. Axelrod, on Sunday, called the action an "affront." Clinton told MSNBC'S Andrea Mitchell that the action was "insulting."
As well, a State Department spokesman, recounting a call Friday by Clinton to Netanyahu, said the secretary called "to make clear that the United States considered the announcement to be a deeply negative signal about Israel's approach to the bilateral relationship and counter to the spirit of the vice president's trip."
And the Associated Press is now reporting that the Obama Administration is now calling on the Israelis to scrap all plans for the expansion in east Jerusalem, something the prime minister appeared to shrug off.
A stern rebuke of the Obama Administration by the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), perhaps one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, has sparked a growing wave of concern by unhappy politicians. Unless this is resolved soon, there is little doubt the concern with the Administration's rhetoric will grow louder, as has been the historic response when past Administrations butted heads with Israel.
AIPAC, in statement released Sunday, called the Administration's statements "a matter of serious concern" and added, "AIPAC calls on the administration to take immediate steps to defuse the tension with the Jewish State."
Is the Jewish love affair with the Democratic Party about to end?
For all of my looooong life, the Jews have been so deep in the pocket of the Democratic Party it would make Chris Matthews blush. Maybe… just maybe… (I know old habits die hard)…. thanks to Barack Obama, that is about to end. The well-put lede from this morning’s WSJ opinion piece details the situation:
In recent weeks, the Obama Administration has endorsed "healthy relations" between Iran and Syria, mildly rebuked Syrian President Bashar Assad for accusing the U.S. of "colonialism," and publicly apologized to Moammar Gadhafi for treating him with less than appropriate deference after the Libyan called for "a jihad" against Switzerland.
When it comes to Israel, however, the Administration has no trouble rising to a high pitch of public indignation. On a visit to Israel last week, Vice President Joe Biden condemned an announcement by a mid-level Israeli official that the government had approved a planning stage—the fourth out of seven required—for the construction of 1,600 housing units in north Jerusalem. Assuming final approval, no ground will be broken on the project for at least three years.
The Obama administration has taken the admonition to "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer" to a new level. They want to make love with their enemies while taking their friends to the woodshed and beating the living daylights out of them. And take them they did, time after time. First Biden, then Hillary, then some semi anonymous character at the State Department dressing down Ambassador Oren (talk about disrespecting your betters!), then on to the talk show circuit with the droning Gibbs and Obama’s "best Jew" David Axlerod. His other "best Jew" Rahm Emanuel was nowhere in evidence, as far as I know. (Interesting, that).
But back to my lede. Is the Jewish love affair with the Democratic Party about to end? I know many will be skeptical. And they should be. But I suspect something is brewing. This kind of excessive and weirdly paternalistic attitude to the state of Israel, directed so clearly from the top, seems to come out of a kind of unexamined personal animus. The long record that Obama has of friendship with virulent enemies of Israel has not gone unnoticed.
Whatever the etiology, group love affairs with political parties cannot help but be self-destructive. They may begin in a burst of mutual admiration but they will almost always devolve into a self-destructive "taking for granted" that could only work to the benefit of one party (if that). The love affair between African-Americans and the Democratic Party has been similarly useless for blacks. In the forty years I have lived in Los Angeles, I haven’t noticed life getting significantly better in South Central, a region of the city in which Republicans are about as scarce as killer whales.
This doesn’t mean I think Jews or blacks or anybody else should become Republicans. They should think for themselves and even change sides when it’s advantageous. For Jews, Obama’s behavior is indeed a "teaching moment." The bizarre over-reaction to a minor incident in Israel should serve as a wake up call.
Will it? It won’t be easy to tell at first. The coming AIPAC meeting in Washington, at which Clinton and Netanyahu will speak, will undoubtedly contain a certain amount of nice-nice talk. But beneath the surface sands are shifting. We shall see if this morphs into a tectonic plate.
As if all of this isn’t troubling enough for one day, it is now being reported that Obama has found himself a brand new, America hating, socialist, "spiritual advisor." This guy is so filled with anti-American hatred and Saul Alinsky communism, that he’d make Obama’s old preacher, The Reverend Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright blush!
Champion of communism, socialism called U.S. 'destroyer of human life'
Rev. Jim Wallis, a member of President Obama's "faith council" who is described as a spiritual adviser to the president, is a socialist activist who has championed communist causes and previously labeled the U.S. "the great captor and destroyer of human life."
Wallis was in the news last week urging Christians to stop watching Fox News host Glenn Beck's program for Beck's remarks against churches that preach "social justice."
The Associated Baptist Press described Wallis as a "politically progressive evangelical and longtime advocate for the poor." The Huffington Post identified Wallis as a "Christian author and social justice advocate."
Wallis, however, is a long time socialist advocate and founder of a far-left magazine, Sojourners, that has championed communist causes.
He currently serves on Obama's White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. He reportedly is a spiritual adviser to Obama and has known the president for years.
Wallis began his activism as a protester and then later Michigan leader of the Students for a Democratic Society, the 1960's antiwar group from which Bill Ayers' Weatherman domestic terrorist organization splintered.
Discover the Networks said that as a theology student, Wallis founded an anti-capitalism magazine called the Post-American, which identified wealth redistribution and government-managed economies as the keys to achieving "social justice."
In 1971, Wallis renamed his magazine Sojourners. He has since served as editor of the publication.
Sojourners' official "statement of faith" urges readers to "refuse to accept [capitalist] structures and assumptions that normalize poverty and segregate the world by class."
Sojourners has published a slew of radicals, including socialist activist Cornel West and James Cone, considered the founder of Black Liberation Theology, which spawned the likes of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor of nearly 20 years.
Wallis' magazine actively lobbied for communist regimes that seized power in Latin America in the late 1970s, including the Sandinista dictatorship in Nicaragua. Sojourners in the 1980s was a fierce opponent of the U.S. nuclear buildup, claiming the policy was "an intolerable evil" irreconcilably at odds with Christianity.
Discover the Networks notes how Sojourners originally formed a socialist commune in Washington, D.C., where members shared finances and launched anti-capitalist activism.
In his 1976 book, "Agenda for Biblical People," Wallis called the U.S. "the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life, the great master of humanity and history in its totalitarian claims and designs."
Wallis continues to openly support socialism. Along with socialist activist West, Wallis in 1995 founded Call to Renewal, a coalition of religious groups demanding the spread of U.S. wealth to promote "social justice."
As a guest on MSNBC last week, Wallis stated "social justice" is at the heart of the Bible.
"The God of the Bible is the God of justice," he said. "Though the poor are in the center of God's concern... Poverty breaks the heart of God. And it breaks the heart of the church. So, this is about Christians who may disagree on politics. Republicans, Democrats, it doesn't matter. Left or right. We have different views on the role of government. Doesn't matter, But justice is integral to the gospel."
Great stuff isn’t it!
Here we have a President that is openly hostile to Israel and the Jewish people, and continues to embrace the most radical anti-American communists this world has to offer. Not only embrace them, hell, Obama makes them part of his administration!
Sarah Palin is dead on, Obama needs to hit the reset button with our Israeli friends, but I’ll take it a step further, and say that Obama needs to reset his entire life, and realize he is supposed to be an American. That, and he needs to stop pallin’ around with terrorists!
I am continually amazed by two ethnic groups in America: Blacks and Jews. Both are absolutely hated by the left in this country, and yet, both groups vote almost as a block for democrats. It makes no sense at all to me.
I tell you, as much as I can’t figure out why blacks vote for the party of the KKK and Jim Crow in overwhelming numbers, the fact that Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat puzzles me to no end. I mean if you hang around the average lefty, you’d find they blame all of the world’s problems on Israel (and George Bush)
In fact, many of the far left radicals openly support terror groups like Hamas over Israel. Our president has many ties to people who openly support Hamas!
With that said, it was refreshing to read this from Caroline Glick in the Jerusalem Post:
Column One: Sarah Palin’s friendship
Hers is the strongest single American voice opposing Obama’s foreign policy, supporting Israel and denying Iran nuclear weapons.
US President Barack Obama is an inept, incompetent leader. More than his failure to pass his domestic agenda on health care and global warming despite his Democratic Party’s control over both houses of Congress, Iran’s announcement on Thursday that it is a nuclear power and has the capacity to produce weapons-grade uranium is a testament to Obama’s feckless incompetence. Even his most ardent supporters are admitting this.
Take The New York Times. In a news analysis Thursday of Obama’s failure to prevent Iran from advancing with its nuclear program, David Sanger wrote that for the US president, the last year has been "a year in which little in his dealings with Iran has gone the way that the White House expected."
Since Obama first announced his wish to sit down with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, at a Democratic presidential candidates’ debate in the spring of 2008, the 44th US president’s only strategy for dealing with Iran has been to appease its leaders. And as of Tuesday, he still believes that ingratiating himself with the regime is his best bet.
On Tuesday, Obama wouldn’t admit that appeasement has failed, even as all of Iran’s top leaders said they were expanding their illicit uranium enrichment activities. The most he would do was acknowledge that the regime’s leaders "have made their choice so far, although the door is still open."
As for sanctions, well, Obama said it will take "several weeks" to put those together at the UN.
The distressing truth is that Obama’s aim has never been to prevent Teheran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. His whole "sanctions-if-engagement-fails" strategy is just a ruse. The Obama administration has never intended to place biting sanctions on Iran. As one senior administration official told The New York Times, the purpose of the sanctions talk is to get the Iranians to agree to negotiate. As he put it, "This is about driving them back to negotiations, because the real goal here is to avoid war."
Got that? As far as Obama is concerned, Iran with nuclear weapons isn’t the main concern. Israel using force to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is the main concern.
US PRESIDENTS have a far freer hand in foreign policy than they have in domestic affairs. A president’s ability to implement his domestic agenda is constrained by Congress. Congress has much less of a say in foreign policy. But the main constraining factor for a US president in both domestic and foreign affairs is public opinion.
Over the past year, Obama failed to pass his domestic agenda even though he enjoyed governing majorities in both houses of Congress, because the public opposed his agenda. So, too, if the public is able to express its opposition to his foreign policy, particularly as it relates to Israel and Iran, he will be unable to sustain it.
To date, in light of his sinking approval ratings, the main thing Obama has had going for him is that since the presidential election, his political opponents have lacked a leader capable of uniting his opponents around an alternative path. Over the past week, that leader may have emerged.
On Saturday, former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin gave the keynote address at the Tea Party Movement convention in Nashville, Tennessee. As she did in the presidential campaign, Palin electrified her audience in Nashville by credibly channeling the populist impulses of American voters. In her signature line she asked, "So how’s that hopey changey stuff working out for ya?"
Palin excoriated Obama on his handling of US foreign policy. Among other things, she noted that a year into his quest to appease dictators, America’s international standing is in shambles. "Israel, a friend and a critical ally, now questions the strength of our support," she added.
Palin bellowed that on issues of foreign policy, there is no room for self-delusion. As she put it, "National security, that’s the one place where you’ve got to call it like it is." And then, "We need a foreign policy that distinguishes America’s friends from her enemies and recognizes the true nature of the threats that we face."
If her address wasn’t enough to convince Americans – and specifically American Jews – that Palin thinks supporting Israel and standing up to Iran are the keys to US national security, then there was her interview on Fox News Sunday. Asked how Obama can win reelection in 2012, Palin responded, "Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decided really to come out and do whatever he could to support Israel, which I would like him to do."
And if that still isn’t enough, there is her lapel pin. The politician who leads the populist opposition to Obama decided to make her most important speech since the 2008 election wearing a pin featuring the US flag and the Israeli flag.
Palin, who is considering a run in the 2012 Republican presidential primaries, is using her public platforms to reassemble the coalition of security hawks, social conservatives and blue collar workers that propelled Ronald Reagan to the White House in 1980. Her support for Israel serves her in building support among both security hawks and social conservatives.
Unlike Obama’s empty protestations of support for Israel, Palin’s support is obviously heartfelt and therefore will not diminish while Obama remains in office. And as Palin becomes stronger, her ability to influence the US debate in a manner that constrains Obama’s freedom to intimidate Israel into allowing Iran to become a nuclear power will rise.
In spite of Palin’s extraordinary support for Israel, the American Jewish community overwhelmingly rejects her. As Jennifer Rubin noted in her article, "Why Jews hate Palin," in Commentary magazine, Jews disapproved of Sen. John McCain’s choice of Palin as his running-mate by a 54 to 37 percent majority. The sneering broadsides published against Palin by leading American Jewish writers are legion.
In her article, Rubin gives a number of reasons for American Jews’ rejection of Palin.
On the one hand, American Jews, who overwhelmingly self-identify as Democrats and disproportionately identify as liberals, oppose Palin for the same reason they oppose all social-conservative Republicans – because she isn’t a liberal Democrat. What makes American Jews’ rejection of Palin unique is its emotional potency. Rubin argues that the visceral hatred that many American Jews express towards Palin is effectively an issue of class hatred, or snobbery. They are four generations removed from the sweatshops where their great grandparents labored on New York’s Lower East Side. And they don’t like this woman with a funny accent who went to University of Idaho, guts fish and shoots moose.
This may be true. But if it is, American Jews might want to rethink their loyalty to their social class. As the demonstrations against Ambassador Michael Oren at UC Irvine, against former prime minister Ehud Olmert at University of Chicago, against Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon at Oxford, as well as the disinvitation of Prof. Benny Morris at Cambridge and the celebrity of Harvard’s anti-Semitic Prof. Steve Walt show clearly, the bastions of intellectual elitism where American Jews feel most at home have become the repositories of the most virulent hatred of Jews in America and the West today.
Liberal standard bearers like Hollywood have had no compunction about giving prestigious awards to movies like Paradise Now, which glorified murderers of Jews in a manner unmatched since the days of Leni Riefenstahl. Elite media outlets like The Atlantic monthly are only too happy to publish the rantings of newly fashionable critics like Andrew Sullivan.
Liberal Democratic Jewish voices, like Leon Wieseltier at The New Republic, are aware that there is a problem with the rampant anti-Semitism in their camp. And they fear that as a consequence, American Jews may take a second look at Palin with her Israeli flag lapel pin. As Wieseltier wrote this week, "A day does not go by when I do not do my humble part to prevent such a transformation [of American Jewry from liberals to conservatives] from coming to pass."
THE FACT of the matter is that for Israel’s sake such a transformation can’t happen quickly enough. It isn’t that American Jews have to change their social agenda, but they must recognize that today, sadly, there is not meaningful bipartisan support for Israel in the US Congress. The 54 lawmakers who wrote Obama a letter last month asking him to force Israel to open up Gaza’s borders were all Democrats. Opposition to passing sanctions against Iran, and opposition to an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear installations, are only politically significant among Democrats.
In her speech at the Tea Party Conference, Palin said, "We need a commander-in-chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern."
The fact of the matter is that Obama came to many of his anti-Israel sensibilities through his professor friends – Rashid Khalidi, John Mearshimer, Samantha Power, William Ayres, Bernadine Dohrn and, of course, the late Edward Said. Americans interested in national security – and particularly American Jews who support Israel – should be the first ones to second Palin’s statement.
Sarah Palin’s emergence as the mouthpiece of populist opposition to Obama presents Israel’s supporters – and particularly Israel’s Jewish supporters – with an extraordinary opportunity and an extraordinary challenge. Palin’s coupling of support for Israel with her populist domestic agenda marks the first time that support for Israel has been treated as a core, populist issue. The opportunity this presents for American Jews who care about Israel is without precedent.
But of course, to make the best use of this opportunity, American Jews who support Israel have to disappoint Wieseltier. They have to acknowledge that the Left has rejected their cause and increasingly, rejects them.
Obama’s failure to prevent Iran from moving forward with its nuclear program, and his stubborn refusal to support an Israeli move to deny Iran the ability to threaten Israel and global security as a whole, place Israel and core US national security interests in unprecedented jeopardy. His fellow Democrats’ willingness to support him as he maintains this perilous course means that the Democratic ship has abandoned Israel, and strategic sanity.
Palin’s future in politics is unknowable. But what is clear enough is that today hers is the strongest single American voice opposing Obama’s foreign policy and the loudest advocate for supporting Israel and denying Iran nuclear weapons. For this she deserves the thanks and support of American Jewry.
As Americans, we must support Israel to the fullest. They are our strongest ally in that part of the world. Sarah Palin is unabashed in her support for Israel and the Jewish people. This is a good thing. Hopefully the Jewish people in America will wake up and realize who their friends are and who their enemies are.
