Governor Palin last night electrified a crowd of over 2,500 and raised $1 million for Faulkner University's scholarship fund in a speech delivered at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery, Alabama, according to widespread media reports.

According to Markeshia Ricks, a reporter for the Montgomery Advertiser, Gov. Palin's speech centered on "faith, its role in her life, and how it shapes one into a person of value." She described how she became a Christian at age 11, allowed God to direct her life, and how that opened doors for her.

Gov. Palin "challenged her audience to take their commitment to service to a higher level and became teary-eyed when talking about former University of Alabama football coach Gene Stallings and his son, John Mark Stallings," Ricks reported. The university is naming its new football field after John Mark Stallings who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and died at the age of 46, Ricks wrote.
