All through yesterday morning there were folks lauding Obama's decision to open drilling off the east coast of the United States. Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia among others praised the move. But talk began circulating that there may be some gotcha's, strings or other tricks to what Obama is doing.
It was blown wide open by Sarah Palin who tweeted that "Obama goal=cram thru job-killing, energy-depleting, burdensome Cap & Tax scheme on heels of Obama's new 'pro-drilling' msg." She followed that up with an Op-Ed on NRO where she called Obama's new energy proposal "an effort to shore up fading support for the Democrats’ job-killing cap-and-trade (a.k.a. cap-and-tax) proposals."
Just when you thought you were going to get a little bit of that hope and change you were promised, the SOB in chief smacks you in the head with another hairbrained scheme to move his next legislative initiative. Palin writes:
I’ve got to call it like I see it: The administration’s sudden interest in offshore drilling is little more than political posturing designed to gain support for job-killing energy legislation soon to come down the pike. I’m confident that GOP senators will not take the bait. The president thinks he can sucker us in, or possibly bribe the American people into letting us drill if we give him cap-and-tax. He almost got us on this one. But we're not biting.
