Governor Palin Reclaims True Feminism

Governor Palin spoke this morning in our nation's capital at the Susan B. Anthony List Celebration of Life Breakfast. I couldn't attend, but having watched the video and listened intently to the Governor's speech, I can unequivocally say those who were there are the better for it.

The country is well-aware that she is an unapologetically pro-life woman. For this reason some praise her and others deride her. Love her or hate her, what separates Governor Palin from others, what causes people to sit up and take notice when she talks about the life issue, is one thing: she walks the walk. That fact alone gives her credibility--which is what delights the pro-life community and disgusts the pro-abortion community.

Her words in D.C. today at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center grabbed the attention of those present in a way the words of others could not because they carry the weight of experience. Her commitment to life has been tested, and though it was a challenge, by the grace of God, she passed with flying colors.

Governor Palin called the attendees' attention to true feminism. It is unfortunate that feminism has been twisted into this pro-abortion movement that labels anyone who opposes abortion anti-woman, but the Governor told the SBA List:

You remind us that the earliest leaders of the women's rights movement...they were pro-life.

She also used the term "feminist foremothers," reminding us of the rich pro-woman, pro-life heritage we have. She declared, too, that groups like the SBA List were "returning the women's movement back to its original roots." This is especially important to me because I refused to be associated in any way, shape, or form with the word "feminism"--until Governor Palin reclaimed it.

True feminism indeed is acknowledging the value of women, the nurturing heart of women, and the strength of women to rise to the challenge, even in "less than ideal circumstances," as Governor Palin says. However, the new-fangled modern-day feminism--which is an outright perversion of true feminism--does not believe women capable of rising to these challenges. Governor Palin called these so-called pro-women's groups "hypocritical." What would you call those that say a woman can do absolutely anything--except carry the child within her when it's inconvenient?

Her personal journey of learning that Trig would be born with special needs is always moving. Today she shared how during the weeks of her pregnancy, God seemed to whisper in her ears a simple, yet all-important, question: "Are you gonna trust Me?"

With His help, she found the strength to trust, to walk the walk. In a voice born of true conviction, she shared that when Trig was born, she came to understand something in a deeper way than ever.

God does know what He's doing, and what seemed like what would be such a challenge has turned into our greatest blessing.

She continued with this statement, which was followed by a rousing standing ovation:

Trig has been the best thing that has ever happened to me and to the Palin family.

Considering that 90% of women carrying babies with Down Syndrome abort those children, that one sentence needs to be shared with the world. It's clear that Governor Palin wants others to know the blessing her family knows. To make that a reality, life must be encouraged, which is why she adds her efforts to the cause.

Not only was Governor Palin's faith tested in her own life, but she watched her daughter rise up to take on the challenge of an unplanned pregnancy--truly "less than ideal circumstances" for a seventeen year old high school student. Bristol has come to also see, however, the blessing that can come from the difficulty, and now she chooses to embrace abstinence, a personal stand for which she gets "clobbered" by some clueless people. Nonetheless, she stands by her conviction.

Through her experiences, Governor Palin said she understands why some women are tempted to have an abortion, yet her feet remain firmly planted in truth:

Choosing life may not be the easiest path, but it's always the right path. And I've had that confirmation. The timing of the circumstances may not be perfect, but God sees a way where we cannot, and He doesn't make mistakes.

Once again, Governor Palin takes a strong stand for life, and that stand elicits a response--because of her track record, because of her integrity on the issue. That record makes her a leading spokesperson for the pro-life, pro-woman movement. On this issue she speaks for the majority of Americans, for statistics show that America is predominantly a pro-life country now--and the numbers continue to grow, thank God. I, therefore, applaud Governor Palin and groups like the Susan B. Anthony List for their commitment to this important work.

As Governor Palin said:

It all comes down to life and how we're going to take a stand on protecting innocent life and deciding that nobody is beneath the protection of our laws.

That's a common sense message from a common sense citizen leader.

She ended her speech today with this word of encouragement:

We're getting the job done, sisters--one life, one activist, one election, one vote, one American dream at a time.

New Feminism: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

What an eventful day yesterday. As you all know, Sarah Palin was scheduled to be a guest on #1 Alaska Radio Show Host Eddie Burke's show. Right before his show aired, he informed me that Sarah would be appearing on Wednesday's show instead. (Eddie's show airs from 3-6 PST. Click here to listen.) He asked me to come on the show at 3:30 PST, so I called Rishi, Eddie's producer before 3:30, and Rishi was nice enough to tell me that he would call me when Eddie was ready. See, isn't he a nice liberal? Rishi ended up calling me back about 15 minutes later, and I was put on to be interviewed by Eddie. I hope you all had the chance to listen to Eddie's show yesterday because you saw how great of a host Eddie is. While talking with Eddie, I was struck with just how great the people of Alaska are. I cannot wait to visit the state in May and meet the great folks who live there.


It was during my conversation with Eddie that I discovered what I would write about today. During our conversation, Eddie and I talked about a variety of Sarah-related issues, but it was our discussion of feminism that really fired me up. To many, including myself, Sarah is a modern-day feminist. She is a strong, intelligent woman who is happily married, loves being a mom and grandma and cherishes her career as well. The fact is that she stands for EVERYTHING self-described feminists have fought so hard against. She is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-marriage, pro-traditional family values and to top it all off, not afraid to dress feminine; she is comfortable in her own skin. Sarah is definitely the kind of woman these hateful so-called feminists warned us all about. The very fact that she chose life for her baby, precious little Trig, is further proof that she is not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. It infuriates these self-described feminist women every time she holds her baby, cares for her baby, loves her baby. It infuriates these women because they know that, unlike Sarah, they WOULD NOT have the courage to give birth to a child with special needs. That is why they hate her and loathe her; furthermore, Trig is evidence of just how precious and beautiful choosing life can be, which further sets these feminists tongues ablaze.


These so-called feminists preach equality and women's rights, while shunning the very fact that they are women themselves. They claim to want justice for women, yet they carry themselves like men. Instead of being proud proud of their feminine qualities, they wear pantsuits, flats and masculine haircuts. What happened to being proud of being a woman? Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a classy black pantsuit, but I am talking about the self-described feminists who wear them. They hate Sarah because she is not afraid to wear a classy pencil skirt, blazer and heels. She is not afraid to wear her hair below her shoulders, put on some great makeup and flaunt her beautifully high cheek bones. When did it become wrong to want to appear beautiful both inside and out? When did it become so wrong for a woman to actually dress like a woman? While this seems like common sense to you and me, the NOW women, Planned Parenthood women and other liberal feminists out there do not believe in this type of woman. They do not believe a woman can be both intelligent and attractive.


Liberal, self-described feminists look down on Sarah for this very reason; it's as simple as that. They look down at her, as well as conservative women like her, because of the values she holds and the issues she believes in. Every time I watch feminists give interviews, I notice a common theme. These women all come across as being full of anger and resentment. I have been thinking long and hard about this. There is no doubt these women have successful careers and live comfortably, which is important, but something clearly seems to be missing from their lives. I fully believe this unhappiness results from the fact that they have found they are leading unfulfilled lives in which they seek to attain power, but lose out at experiencing any joys. Sarah Palin is an every woman in the sense that she has it all. The self-described feminists of today are clearly jealous of her for the life she leads. The extreme vitriol and hateful way in which they discuss her on television is proof of the fear they have of her, which speaks volumes in terms of the power she holds as a woman.


The very mention of Sarah's name has the power to destroy everything feminists have worked so hard for. More and more women are viewing Sarah as a strong, brilliant woman. The women of NOW and Planned Parenthood realize this, which is the cause of the ramped up attacks we have see occurring in recent days. Average-day American women are comparing these spiteful feminists to Sarah Palin, and they are asking themselves: "Do I want to be hateful, or do I want to be happy? What's so wrong with being proud to be a woman while holding a position of power?" Sarah is a happy, modern woman while her feminist counterparts are unhappily leading their lives as if it were still the Seventies. These same feminists who attack here and say she is a step backward for women are the same women who sit back and continue to watch as she is unfairly attacked. Where are these women to speak out on the sexist Newsweek cover that clearly takes Sarah out of context? Had that been a liberal woman on the cover, you know these groups would be out in full-force.


Where were these feminist groups when the AP put 11 fact-checkers to work on Sarah's book, clearly trying to discredit her? It is clear these woman do not care about rights for all women; moreover, they only seem to care about the rights of liberal women. My good friend, Adrienne Ross, of the blog Motivation: Truth gives an excellent reason for why organizations like the AP are doing everything in their power to bring Sarah down (courtesy of foxnews.com):

They're obsessed with trying to discredit her.... Because she's a conservative woman, they make fun of her accent, comment about her looks. She doesn't come in the package they want her to come in."

Well said, Adrienne. I believe what Adrienne said goes for the liberal-feminists who attack her as well. In attempting to bring her down, they are clearly illustrating the fear they have in the power this one woman holds. Sarah doesn't come in the plain, strictly wrapped feminist package- thank goodness for that; instead, she comes in a beautifully wrapped box, full of bold colors and topped off with a phenomenal red bow.


Sarah IS proof of how the times have clearly changed. She IS a modern-day feminist who is close to shattering the glass ceiling for women like me all over America. She is a successful woman who has a wonderful husband, five fantastic kids and an adorable grandson. It must really anger these women that Todd steps in and helps Sarah too. They are two equals, and for these liberal feminists who preach equality, one would think Sarah and Todd would be the poster couple for what a great marriage looks like. Yet, we are talking about women who loath traditional family values. We are talking about women who say they are pro-choice, but spew hate and judgment on a woman who CHOSE life. Sarah and modern-day medical technology ARE the reasons why people are choosing life. Women are seeing that little life in front of them on those ultra sound machines, and they are realizing that little being IS a living, breathing life.

When Sarah goes around the country with her family in the coming days, there is no doubt in my mind that the feminists who hate her will attempt to gain favor by speaking out against her just as they did when she held precious Trig on the campaign trail a little over a year ago. Let them try. Let them try to discredit her as an example of step back for women. Just remember this: We KNOW the truth. We KNOW what Sarah really is: She is a wife. She is a mother. She is a grandmother. She is a classy modern-day feminist who is not afraid to tell it like it is, doing it all in a classy skirt and high-heels. Yep, she is a woman of my time, a TRUE modern-day woman who will lead our country out of the wilderness and onward to that shining city on a hill.

Liberal Wrath: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Carrie Prejean is so right when she recently said there is a double standard when it comes to the treatment conservative women and liberal women receive from the media and people in general. Here is what Carrie told NBC's Meredith Vieira regarding this obvious double standard:

"Well, I think it's important for people to understand. I think that Americans heard only bits and pieces of what really happened and I think that there is a liberal bias in the media. And it's unfortunate that conservative women are attacked, they are attacked for their beliefs and it's unacceptable and it shouldn't happen. And so many Americans are frustrated, so many Americans believe that their beliefs are under attack and that they should silent and free speech doesn't exist. Since when does free speech not exist? Since when is someone able to go on national TV and call someone the most awful names you could ever call a woman and get away with it?"


Not only was Carrie called the most evil names, but she was dragged through the mud. People she hasn't seen or talked too in years are all of a sudden popping up and wrongly exploiting her. Carrie doesn't deserve this. While it is clear she has made mistakes in the past, no one is perfect and she has vocally admitted her faults on multiple occasions, unlike our president I might add. It is time to leave this poor young woman alone. Unfortunately, this will not happen. We live in an age in which conservative women are attacked because they don't believe in things liberal women believe in. While many are criticizing Carrie for comparing herself to Sarah, Carrie is accurate in comparing the treatment she has received to the treatment Sarah has received. Like Sarah, Carrie is a conservative. Like Sarah, Carrie is a Christian, and like Sarah, Carrie finds herself in the middle of an on-going battle with the liberal msm (mainstream media).


Now, picture this: Picture if Sarah was Hillary Clinton, and picture if Carrie was a liberal pageant contestant who had publicly voiced her support for gay marriage. You see where I'm going with this, right? Not only would these women receive better treatment from the media, but they would suddenly become the poster women for "The Modern-Day Woman," "The Modern-Day Feminist." Don't get me wrong, I publicly stated and wrote about the unfortunate treatment Hillary received during the 2008 campaign, but the treatment she received was a lot more positive than the treatment Sarah received. This is all because of the double standard that exists today. Look at Hillary now. She is praised for the job she is doing as Secretary of State, and Sarah is continually mocked by the liberal msm and the vile left. Everything Sarah says and does is put under the microscope while Hillary continues to receive praise. I have no problem with individuals being praised when they do well and holding someone accountable when they mess up, but when it comes to Sarah, it seems that she can never win when it comes to the treatment she receives from the left.


Take Sarah's use of Facebook for example. While I find her use of the social networking site to spread her common sense message of conservatism brilliant, she gets made fun of for posting on the site. Take a step back to the 2008 presidential campaign. Who was praised for spreading his message on the internet via social networking? Then-candidate Obama. What gives? Not only is Sarah doing exactly what President Obama did during the campaign, but I would argue that she is doing a better job of spreading the word than he did. Yet, instead of commending her for using the internet to spread her message, she is made fun of just as she was when she opened a Twitter account. I guarantee if a liberal woman chose to spread her message via the internet, she would be praised for her efforts. MSNBC would probably air a how-to segment. This further illustrates the difference between the treatment liberal women like Nancy Pelosi and conservative women like Sarah receive from the wacky, liberal msm.


Conservative women like Sarah and Carrie are phenomenally strong women who should be praised for being examples of women who are making a difference by sticking to their beliefs; instead, conservative women are attacked because they believe in everything the liberal left loathe. I can relate to Sarah and Carrie in that I too am attacked just because I am a conservative woman. I guarantee many conservative women reading this feel the same way. I am not ashamed to say that I am a conservative woman; in fact, I am PROUD to say that I am a conservative woman. I could care less what the liberal left thinks of me, and I know Sarah and Carrie feel the same way. I actually am mutual friends with a couple of people who are friends of Carries here in San Diego, and she IS as nice a person as you see on the television. She DOES NOT deserve the treatment she is receiving. I am proud to have women like Carrie and Sarah on the conservative side of the spectrum.


The liberals out there will preach that conservative women are not real women, but nothing could be further from the truth. Just as liberal women have values they hold close to their hearts, conservative women do as well. It is important to note that Sarah and Carrie are attacked because they hold firm to their beliefs. They are not afraid to stand up and speak out, which is why they continue to be attacked. In standing up and speaking out, they become a threat to everything the left holds dear. Whether it be gay marriage or abortion, the left is threatened that Sarah and Carrie, and conservative women in general, don't abide to what the msm sees as the ideal woman, the ideal feminist. The left is scared of conservative women because they see women who are able to have it all. They are able to have a husband and children while still having a great career.



Conservative women believe in things like life, freedom and traditional marriage. Conservative women believe in the Constitution, free market and capitalism. Conservative women don't want socialism or big government. The liberal left just does not get get. They don't understand how any woman could call themselves a conservative. Well, I could say the same thing about them. How can you be for abortion when having an abortion ends life? How can you be for gay marriage when the Bible specifically says marriage is between one man and one woman? It's time members of the liberal left practice the tolerance they preach so much about and allow others to practice their First Amendment right to speak out on issues that are important to them. I am not going to hold my breath because members of the liberal left seem hell-bent on destroying any threat that stands in their way to achieving their liberal-left agenda. I, for one, am not going to back down; I am not going anywhere. Like Sarah and Carrie, I am going to stand my ground and continue my message of common-sense conservatism, and I hope you all stand up and speak out with me as we continue to fight the good fight!!

19th Amendment and Sarah Palin

On August 26, 1920, the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution, which grants women the right to vote, becomes law. Washington women had won the vote in 1910, after which Washington suffragists had helped with the national campaign to amend the constitution so that all American women could vote.

Eighty nine years after the 19th amendment, America is still engaging in conversations that seek to define who a feminist is and what she stands for. Without a doubt, Sarah Palin resurrected some of those conversations when she became the first woman to earn herself a place on a Republican ticket. Geraldine Ferraro had done the same for the Democratic ticket in 1984.

It is astounding that it took so long for both these accomplishments, and even more astounding that women are still in the position of defending their place within the political process. No one knows this more than Governor Sarah Palin. She has always acknowledged those women who have gone before her to pave the way for her and desires to be a source of inspiration for those girls who follow after her.

It is unfortunate that the governor has had to fight against the smears of both men and women, some of whom seem content with having a conservative woman exercise her right to vote, as long as she's not the woman we actually vote for. Nonetheless, Sarah Palin rises above the small thinking of some who want to put "feminism" in a box. Many women have now broken out of the box and are grateful, not only for the privilege given in 1920 to walk into that voting box, but to see the name of another woman staring back at them when they get in there.
