For "Mean Girls" Like Lisa Murkowski, Everything's Personal: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

In her latest interview, liberal leaning, mainstream media journalist and anchor Katie Couric spoke with Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska who, after losing a bitter primary battle to Joe Miller, launched a write-in campaign in an attempt to remain one of Alaska's senators. In her interview with Couric, Murkowski remarked that she does not feel Sarah Palin has the "leadership qualities" and "intellectual curiosity" to develop "great policy." She also said, "You know, she was my governor for two years there, and I don't think she liked to get down into the policy." Really, Lisa? Is that the best you can do? It is clear that Sarah and Lisa have always had a not-so-friendly relationship. Even though Sarah is known for working across the aisle and being a successful governor, Lisa does not seem to realize this. Maybe it is because Lisa has held a grudge against Sarah ever sense Sarah defeated her father for the Alaska governorship. It is clear that Lisa still has not gotten over her father's defeat. While losing a hard-fought election can be very difficult, most people learn that it is best to move on and let bygones be bygones in order to work together with the party for the common good on behalf of the people. Although this is a lesson most people learn, it is clear Lisa Murkowski has never learned, or maybe never was taught, this important lesson. We see this in the way she has treated and spoken about Sarah. I believe this has to do with the fact that she and Sarah are two different individuals who, while both Alaskans, have lived very different lives. On one hand, we have Sarah Palin, who rose from humble beginnings and worked her way up, learning nothing ever comes without hard work and dedication. Her phenomenal parents, whom I had the privilege to spend time with last summer in Alaska, taught her the value of hard work and determination. Sarah began by serving in the PTA, then the city council, then as the mayor of Wasilla, and finally as Alaska's first female governor. This is vastly different than Lisa's political journey. When her dad was governor, he appointed his daughter, Lisa, a lawyer who had served in the AK State House, to the Senate. You may remember some of this twisted tale from Sarah's discussion of it in her best-selling book Going Rogue: An American Life. Apparently, when Governor Frank Murkowski called Sarah into his office to interview her for the open Senate seat, he asked if she would be up to the job because she was a mother with young children. Given that this assertion in itself was ridiculous, what was even more ridiculous was that, in the end, Frank Murkowski ended up appointing his daughter, who, in fact, had young children of her own. The rest, as they say, is history. To her credit, Lisa was re-elected by the people after being appointed and has been a Senator ever since.

I am not writing this blog to question Lisa Murkowski's fitness to be a senator. I do not take issue on her fitness for office, for it is clear that she is qualified just as Sarah is more than qualified to hold any political office she desires to hold. What I do take issue with is the statements she has made and continues to make against fellow Republicans like Sarah, Joe Miller (Remember how she questioned his fitness for holding the job of Senator?) and most recently what she said about Jim DeMint, telling POLITICO:

"I think some Republicans in the Congress feel pretty strongly that he and his actions potentially cost us the majority by encouraging candidates that ended up not being electable.... I think there's some folks that feel that DeMint's actions didn't necessarily help the Republican majority.... So the real question is, what's his desire? Does he want to help the Republican majority , or is he on his own agenda, his own initiative?"

What I would like to know is who or what gives Lisa Murkowski the authority to make such comments? Last I checked, she had to resort to running a write-in campaign after Joe Miller, whom Jim DeMint endorsed, beat her fair and square in the primary. It is clear that Lisa Murkowski has this all-about-me complex in that the seat she hold belongs to her, when in reality, it is the people's seat. While it appears that she may end up retaining it when all the write-in votes are counted, it is clear that Lisa Murkowski is a woman who seems to view herself as an entitled individual who can throw insults and negativity around, but just cannot take the fact that she is losing vast amounts of credibility every time she opens her mouth and makes a snide comment.

In the end, when all the votes are counted and a winner is officially named, one thing will remain the same. It is clear that Lisa Murkowski is jealous of the beautiful life Sarah Palin leads. In making these comments the day after Sarah Palin's Alaska aired, it is clear that she is doing everything she can do to discredit Sarah and her ever-growing popularity. What other explanation is there other than to try to steal Sarah's thunder following the show, which was watched by millions across the globe, making it TLC's most watched reality-series premiere ever! It is clear that Lisa's latest shenanigan is a publicity stunt in an attempt to discredit Sarah, but it looks like this stunt has backfired on Lisa and company because many are shaking their heads, wondering why Lisa is getting involved in another woman's life when she has enough to deal with; after all, doesn't she have that whole recount thing to keep her busy? It would be wise if Lisa would start focusing on her own political goals and less on her (not-so-expert) opinion and personal dislike of Sarah Palin.

CBS Affiliate Busted on Voicemail Conspiring Against Senate Candidate Joe Miller

The media has been busted conspiring once again. This time the target is Alaska's Joe Miller who is running for Senate. Not too many knew who Miller was before he received the support of Governor Palin, and the lamestream media--along with other PDS sufferers--see a loss for him as a win against the Governor. So once again, the media stops at nothing to promote their agenda. This one is particularly troubling, and heads should roll. Nonetheless, we see an example of this truth: "what's done in the dark will come to the light."

The following voice mail message was inadvertently left on the cell phone of Joe Miller campaign spokesperson Randy DeSoto.

The voices are believed to be those of the news director for CBS Anchorage affiliate KTVA, along with assignment editor Nick McDermott, and other reporters, openly discussing creating, if not fabricating, two stories about Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Joe Miller.

The following is a transcript of a call recorded after CBS Alaska affiliate KTVA called Joe Miller’s Senate campaign spokesperson. The call failed to disconnect properly. It was later authenticated by McDermott, who sent a text to Randy DeSoto stating, “Damn iPhone… I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry.”

Clearly the reporters were conspiring to set up some type of smear of Joe Miller. With glee, they even cite a recent controversy over an incident involving the Rand Paul campaign, while discussing how they would spread the story via social media after whatever incident they had in mind came off. It also brings to mind another recent episode that ended with Jerry Brown’s California gubernatorial campaign being caught up in controversy when someone from Brown’s camp called Brown’s opponent, Republican Meg Whitman, a “whore.”

This calls into serious question what type of campaign coverage CBS’ KTVA has been providing Alaskans all along, given their reporters’ willingness to conspire against Miller.

This totally makes me sick to my stomach. Can the public no longer count on the media to fairly report the news? That is the media's job, is it not? We saw this type of nonsense here and here when, during the 2008 campaign, "Journolisters" went after Governor Palin after Senator McCain tapped her to be his running mate and she was deemed a threat to their victory plans. We saw it in the media's decision to protect then-candidate Obama from serious scrutiny and downplay his radical associations. We saw it with the conspiracy to depict all Republicans as racists. We see it still--everyday--because the lamestream media has decided that their job is to be the deciding factor in who the public respects and elects. Joe Miller is just their newest target.

May this truth exposed send Alaskans to the polls with a determination to vote for the real Joe Miller, rejecting the Left's sick agenda--so sick they joke and laugh about child molesters. Their behavior is disgusting, and certainly not befitting those who should be honored to represent our First Amendment rights. The term "sick puppies" comes to mind.

Governor Palin Receives Death Threat in San Diego

Governor Palin's life was threatened, necessitating intense security for her appearance in San Diego last night. She was there for a Combat Veterans for Congress event, where she was to introduce Alaska Senate candidate, Joe Miller.

These types of things baffle me to no end. Which principle does the Governor espouse that would subject her to death threats? Is it her cry for fiscal responsibility? Is it her love for the military? Might it be her stand for a culture of life? Would her dedication to energy independence put her in harm's way? Her desire for Americans to keep more of what they earn? Love for the Constitution? Which perspective is deemed so evil that she deserves threats upon her life?

The truth is she has taken the necessary stands to better this country. They have been tough stands. They have been uncompromising stands. But they have been the right stands. For this she ought to be applauded, not threatened. The unwavering courage and patrotism she personifies are what America needs in a leader.

As I see it, the lamestream media is partially responsible for the threats she endures. They distort what she says, accuse her of racism with not a shred of evidence, and fail to report the truth once their lies have been exposed. When I was hit by eggs after the Going Rogue book signing in Rochester, NY, by a man who said he was set off after watching coverage of her on television, I wrote:

The media needs to get its act together. Many in the mainstream media have done their best to demonize Governor Palin. They have painted her as anti-women, anti-books, anti-animal rights, anti-Black (MSNBC loves that one), anti-everything. They have said she is a liar, dangerous, and a religious nut. In my mind, their vile, biased, and demonic attacks against her hold some responsibility for the egg-attack. So-called journalists need to return to what they were hired to do--fairly report facts not push an agenda--or they will find they have caused more damage than some books and clothing splattered with yolk.

Then, of course, there was the man who was arrested for trying to hit the Governor with tomatoes in Minnesota. Here, I highlighted both the lamesteam media's lies and deafening silence when Governor Palin faces real threats upon her life. Not much has changed since those days. In fact, things have gotten progressively worse, as they continually paint her with the biased brush they shamelessly use. But this is no game. Security would not have been beefed up to the degree it was had not the threat been deemed credible.

A graduate school professor once told me, "Responsibility simply means the ability to respond." With Governor Palin, however, too many people react rather than respond with common sense and decency. Yes, this is irresponsible, unwarranted, and dangerous--and it's led by a media that is itself threatened by the power she wields, the accomplishments she boasts, and the impact she's having on the direction of America.

Governor Palin did not disappoint, in spite of the threats. Security was in place, and she took the stage to introduce Joe Miller--and then blasted the lamestream media, as well she should have.

Sercurity [sic] was tight as the former Republican vice-presidential candidate spoke to a political fundraiser sponsored by Combat Veterans for Congress Saturday night.

On the eve of a major Tea Party event in Oceanside Sunday and amid tight security after a reported death threat, Palin spoke at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island. A Tea Party movement favorite, Palin delivered a fiery speech to the crowd and introduced her fellow Alaskan, Republican Senate and Tea Party candidate Joe Miller at the event.

Palin said the “lamestream media just doesn’t get it and when they don’t believe what perhaps your message is so they want to belittle you and mock you and treat you with much disdain, you know, I think, well they can do that to me, that’s fine, because I know truth.” Palin added, “You know what, you can say whatever you want to say about me but I raised a combat vet and you can’t take that away from me.”

Among the local congressional candidates attending were combat veterans Republican congressman Duncan Hunter and Republican congressional candidates Nick Popaditch, who is running in the 51st District, along with Michael Crimmins, who is running in the 53rd district.

The Union Tribune reported there had been a threat made against Palin’s life before the event which caused organizers to increase their focus on security. At a news conference, Combat Veterans for Congress Chairman Joseph John said the group was “very concerned about about her security.” Sheraton hotel manager Warren Nocon said the hotel had already planned to have a security presence at the event.

Joe Miller: Gov. Palin is More than Constitutionally Qualified to be POTUS

Much was made the last several days of Joe Miller's response to the question of whether Governor Palin is qualified to be president. The lamestream media blew the whole thing up because that's what they do. They love the thought of someone suggesting she can't deliver the goods. They took extra delight in this particular nontroversy because Miller is from her own state, a friend of Todd Palin, and she has bent over backwards to support him against Lisa Murkowski. So they exploited Miller's comments and thought they had something to run with. They were wrong, as usual, and their premature giddiness has been exposed once again. As Governor Palin said herself:

Joe Miller cut the legs off of this in an interview with conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham when he answered that Governor Palin is obviously qualified to be president--not just constitutionally qualified either. He leaves no question that he believes no one--and that means no one--is doing for this country what she is doing right now.

And while you likely heard Joe Miller's earlier comments, chances are greater that you have not heard his recent comments in the lamestream media. And why is that? Josh Painter sums it up quite succinctly:

... but don't look for the lamestream media to give these remarks by Miller the same coverage they did his earlier comments, because what he says here doesn't fit their anti-Palin narrative.

Surely you're not surprised at this selective reporting, are you?

Murkowski Ignores Will of the People; She'll Run as a Write In Candidate; Update 1: Donate to Joe Miller; 2: Reactions

It's official. The talk of the day was that Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who was defeated by Joe Miller in the Primary, was still going to run as a write in candidate. She has just announced she is.

Some simply don't get it. The people speak during a competitive Primary, and these politicians continue to force their own agendas. There must be something in the air in Washington.

Joe Miller is the choice of the people, he's the Tea Party candidate, and he's the one Governor Palin put over the top. Murkowski conceded when it was clear she was toast. This is where she is supposed to handle the loss with grace, back the Republican chosen by her state, and get out of the way. Who would have thought she would have gone this route? It's a sad, sad day when people simply ignore the will of the voters. Unbelievable.

Too bad Murkowski didn't heed what Governor Palin just tweeted a few minutes ago:

Primary voters spoke. Listen to the people, respect their will; w/a 40-pt incumbent lead & $2.8 million war chest, voters chose Joe instead

Perhaps getting handed a Senate seat by Daddy has prevented Murkowski from recognizing when people have had enough of her. Does she have the right to run as a write in candidate? Of course, but it sure speaks volumes about desire for power over respect for the election process and the will of the people.

Miller says Murkowski’s move “should shock anyone with integrity,” calling it another example of how her “lifeblood is power.” She has, he says, a “disconnection from reality.”

“[Murkowski] is going back on her word,” Miller continues. “She gave her word several days before the primary that she would respect the primary outcome.”

John Cornyn says the NRSC stands behind Miller:

Republican primary voters spoke when they nominated Joe Miller in Alaska, and I am deeply disappointed in Senator Lisa Murkowski’s decision to ignore that clear message and wage a write-in candidacy. The NRSC stands firmly behind Joe Miller’s nomination, and we will ensure that he has all of the resources that he needs in order to win this November.

And Mitch McConnell has stripped Murkowski of her Senate leadership role:

Senate Republicans informed Lisa Murkowski that we will respect the will of the voters in Alaska and support the Republican nominee, Joe Miller. I informed her that by choosing to run a campaign against the Republican nominee, she no longer has my support for serving in any leadership roles, and I have accepted her letter of resignation from Senate leadership. Lisa has served her state and our party with distinction, but Republicans acknowledge the decision Alaskans made and join them in support of the Republican nominee, Joe Miller—the next Senator for Alaska.”

Instead of honoring her word and respecting the will of the people, Lisa Murkowski intends to try to cling to the last vestige of power she has. Stripped of her leadership roles, her claim that she's doing anything but throwing a temper tantrum is out the window.

Newsflash, Senator: The voters fired you. Act like an adult and clean out your desk and go home.

Update II by Doug: Even Randy Ruedrich, chairman of the Alaska Republican Party, is abandoning Murky:

Today Senator Lisa Murkowski announced she would re-enter Alaska’s US Senate race as a write in candidate. Regardless of her decision the Alaska Republican Party stands firm behind our elected Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller.

“The Alaska Republican Party has been respectful of Senator Murkowski’s service and tried to give her a moment of pause with which she could come to the right decision,” said Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich. “I am disappointed the Senator has decided not to respect the will of Alaska’s Republican Primary voters. The 2010 Republican Primary turnout of 110,688 set a new Republican turnout record. I was hoping Senator Murkowski would recognize this fact and acknowledge this election was not an anomaly, misunderstanding, or mistake, but rather the definitive decision of a large plurality of Alaska primary voters. That decision deserves her respect.”

“I want to make perfectly clear to Senator Murkowski and all of Alaska’s Republicans that she will receive no support of any kind from the Alaska Republican Party,” Ruedrich went on to say. “Lisa has chosen to run against the Republican Party and its primary voters. We will treat her candidacy as we would anyone who chooses to oppose our party’s nominees.”

Together we can consign these power hungry RINOs to the dustbin of history. The future of our country demands nothing less. Sept. 11 events in Alaska: Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Joe Miller

Yesterday was an eventful day throughout the United States, because on this day 9 years ago, America and it's people were changed forever. "Time heals all wounds" is the saying, but the wounds are still fresh for many of us, especially for those who lost loved ones on that fateful day. Alaskans, like the rest of America, spent the day honoring and remembering those sacrifices and reflecting on what it means to be an American in the Great State of Alaska.

The early part of this day found me wishing I was somewhere else. My email, facebook and Blackberry were buzzing with the two planned events of the day all of my friends were attending without me - the "Standing Strong For America" rally put on by the Conservative Patriots Group, the most active Tea Party group in the state of Alaska, and the Glen Beck event to be held in Anchorage later that evening. I spent the morning texting and calling friends while on a road trip to Fairbanks. I was over 400 miles away and would not be able to attend either event. Everyone was excited and as the morning wore into the afternoon, I found myself feeling more disconnected from everything that was going on. Then, I had a reality check.

In a parking lot in Fairbanks was a car, a PT Cruiser, with murals painted on all sides and the back. It was a private vehicle honoring Marines and on one side was the picture of a Marine saluting at a funeral. It hit me at that moment, on this day, that my desire to attend these events and be with friends had overshadowed the importance of the day itself. This is a day to hold sacred, to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and to never forget. I will never forget and let us pray this nation will always remember. In that spirit, and in remembrance, I'd like to share these images and thoughts, with the help of Julie Gillette. Julie is the current president of the Valley Republican Women's Club, the club I was president of until late June of this year when I relocated. Julie has done a wonderful job as club president. She is a true patriot, a female veteran like myself, a mother and wife, and I am grateful for her help with this post and most of all, her friendship.

The "Standing Strong For America" Rally in Wasilla, Alaska

This rally was held at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Complex in Wasilla, Alaska. Sponsored by the Conservative Patriots Group (CPG), it was billed as a non-partisan event to remember and honor the significance of the day. Several groups were invited and attended the event. According to Julie, Alaska Senate Candidate Scott McAdams was invited but did not return calls to CPG and was not in attendance. The Valley Republican Women's Club (VRWC) was in attendance, however, and had a table with information which was manned by several board members to include Carol Doner, Julie Gillette, Carol Ryan, and Jill Frost (pictured below).



Various media outlets speculated there were about 300 in attendance, but according to Julie Gillette, the actual number was around 450. "There were 400 chairs set up and they were full and there were a few people standing in the back as well as the volunteers," said Julie. I'm not surprised considering the fact that conservative event attendance numbers are often downplayed by the mainstream media. The event began with a singing of the National Anthem by Adele Morgan, a very talented local artist (seen here with Julie's husband Glen).



Dick Stoffel led the Pledge of Allegience and then CPG President Jen Bettine kicked things off. Glen Beigel spoke briefly and then Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright spoke of his military service and reminded everyone never to forget the events of this day in history. Joe Miller then took the stage. According to the Anchorage Daily News report (ADN), "Miller said the nation was attacked on Sept. 11 'because we're American.' He said the U.S. is a threat to its enemies because of its 'exceptionalism,' its freedoms and constitutional restraint of government.

'We as a nation have been activated. We've been activated through 9/11. We're now activated in a political sense,' Miller said. 'We see a movement across the United States right now that is moving this country in a direction that restores foundations, that restores constitutional principles and makes us proud to be Americans again.'"

Sarah Palin was then introduced as a surprise speaker, to the crowd's delight. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for not just welcoming me in my hometown but for being who you are, true patriots holding on to time-tested truths. Knowing some basic principles that again the rest of America I think can learn from so many Alaskans who believe this -- those time-tested truths that are based on the government that governs least governs best," Palin said (according to the ADN report

The mood of those in attendance was described by Julie:

"There were definitely a few tears through the slide show and silence as people relived the day of the attacked. The bagpipes and the timing of playing them at the end of the slide show left many with wet eyes. I was hanging in there until he started playing. Adele Morgan’s beautiful rendition of the National Anthem was amazing. It also created some watery eyes. Mood was mostly positive and upbeat, especially when Joe Miller and Sarah Palin spoke."

The event lasted about 2 hours and then Julie described a special moment for herself and her husband Glenn:

"I had Glenn take a picture of us at the table before it got really busy. We were not initially going to try to get pictures with Sarah because she was swarmed with people. After the crowd died down, someone motioned to Carol Ryan that we should run over and get pictures before she left. Glenn has taken several pictures of me or our group with Sarah over the past 10 years. He finally got one for himself. We’re so glad to have had the opportunity because she was not able to stick around for the Glenn Beck Meet & Greet, she had a plane to catch."

Glenn Beck comes to Anchorage

Alaska conservatives and Glenn Beck supporters were anxious to see Beck in Anchorage. The doors to the Dena'ina Center were opened and thousands of people who were standing in a line that wrapped around the building, started to file in. Julie said she saw many people she knew, but also many new faces in the crowd of attendees. Kristan Cole, who tweeted earlier that she had been invited to sit with the family, was up front, along with Sarah's mother Sally Heath and other family members. Chuck Heath was not present, however. According to Sally, he was moose hunting! (it is the season here in Alaska).

There were also a few protesters. "They hid behind masks and some blamed George Bush for 9/11. As a retired Air Force member, that loses me everytime," said Julie. "There was a lady with a sign saying not to vote for Joe Miller but she was peaceful and we told her what makes this country great is she has the right to hold that sign." She also described the reactions of those waiting in line to get in to these protesters. "The people around me either ignored them or laughed but it was that laughter followed by the sentiment that we knew these guys would get more press than the actual event. There was a reporter in the room that we heard say to another reporter, 'Look at all these fanatics!'"


First Sarah introduced Glenn, they spoke together, and then Glenn spoke. The mood during the presentation was generally upbeat and acknowledging. "(There was)Cheering, heads nodding in agreement. Eagerness for information, quiet, you could hear a pin drop when he spoke of serious issues and applause to take the roof off when he spoke of smaller government and us taking care of our neighbors so the government doesn’t have to," said Julie.

Near the beginning of the event, as can be seen in one of the clips below, there was a heckler. It has been widely reported that conservative radio talk show host, and former Republican candidate for Lt. Governor, Eddie Burke assisted in "removing" this disruptive attendee. I spoke with Eddie earlier this evening and he gave me his version of the event:

"I was sitting in the front row one seat from the aisle, in front of the stage and Sarah as she was speaking. There were a lot of people coming forward and snapping pictures and then going back to their seats, so at first I didn't really pay much attention to this woman. She appeared to be in her 30's. I'm not sure exactly where she came from, but she stood there and then yelled out "You're a hippocrit!" directly to Sarah. Everyone started booing her. I was within arm's reach of her and the booing was so loud I couldn't hear what else she said, but she was still talking. I stood up and moved toward her, and to use one of Sarah's lines from one of her speeches, I said 'Quit making things up!' At that point, Sarah pointed to me and said 'Thanks Eddie. Eddie Burke, folks.' Security came and they escorted her out. I got a kick out of Sarah's comment about us all knowing each other here, and then Beck made the reply about it being like a high school gymnasium. Afterward, many people came up to me and shook my hand. Many of them asked me when I would be back on the radio and told me that they missed my show. Even more folks commented that they voted for me in the recent election. It was, I have to say, pretty humbling."

Joe Miller was also in the crowd and up front with Sarah and family. Per Julie, "Many times the crowd yelled out 'Joe Miller will get us back on the right path.' Sarah mentioned he was there and there was huge applause for Joe. She promoted him, but the crowd also yelled his name when discussing solutions to America’s problems."

I asked Julie what Glenn Beck's main message was:

"Faith – find a religion and be grounded with the Creator. Hope – we can turn things around but each one of us has the duty and responsibility to make that happen and it is hard work. Don’t sit on the couch channel surfing. Get out there and serve. That brought is to Charity, tithe, join a church and tithe. Serve your neighbors. We are the largest contributors as a Country, we give more than all other countries combined. Give so the people are not owned by the government. And, did I mention he really doesn’t like Woodrow Wilson?"

There was a meet and greet with Glenn Beck afterward. Julie and Eddie both described their experience. Per Julie,

"Each person got about 30 seconds with him and there were about 250 people. He was so exhausted. I was in the last group. Poor guy had flown all this distance, spoke all night brilliantly, then had to sign his name 250 times. He made sure he personally shook everyone’s hand. I was given two challenges, one to get a picture of him wearing a club shirt. Well, 30 seconds did not allow that so I decided instead to just give him the shirt for an autograph to be used for fundraising. So,the consolation prize was to have him in a picture with the shirt. The other challenge was to get a picture between my 2 favorite Glenns. That was a no brainer! I did tell him I was president (of the club) and that Sarah and her family were inspiring and that I appreciate him including her tonight."

For Eddie, it was also a brief encounter. "I'm a member of AA and so is he (Beck)... He said. "It saved my life." I responded, "Mine too."

Julie said for her, it was the best day ever. "I was surrounded by American patriots. It gives me hope for a bright future. I met and got pictures with my 2 favorite rock stars, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. Our Founding Fathers live in the people I was privileged to participate with today. It was an honor to be part of the CPG event and an honor to shake the hand of a man that is willing to take a stand."

Although I was not there, I am grateful for the friendships events like these have brought me, and they help me remember what being an American is all about. Faith, Family, Freedom. What more does one need?

Senator Lisa Murkowkski has conceded. What an incredible victory for Joe Miller, who was snatched out of anonymity by Governor Palin's endorsement. Governor Palin defeated Lisa's father to become the first woman governor of Alaska, and now she helped Joe Miller to defeat his daughter. As Karl Rove said, "It's an end of an era."

But it's the beginning of another one. As I've been predicting all along, it's Miller Time! We've received the "miracle on ice" Governor Palin has been praying for. Now, on to November!

Palin Endorsement Betters Miller, Bitters Murkowski

The votes are still being tallied in the last of yesterday's Primary Day races involving candidates Governor Palin endorsed. Governor Palin's other endorsees, Pam Bondi, Allen West, Paul Gosar, and John McCain, emerged victorious. However, the eyes of the nation followed the Joe Miller-Lisa Murkowski show-down in Alaska, as Palin's endorsement put a relatively unknown Miller on the map. A day later, we're yet looking toward the North as votes are still being counted in a very close race that Miller is leading. He gives credit to Governor Palin for the good shape he's in.

The ADN reports today:

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is battling for her political life this morning against Republican primary challenger Joe Miller, the tea party-backed candidate who has a slim lead as ballots continue to be counted.

Miller, a Fairbanks attorney, led from when the first returns came in Tuesday night and was on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest election upsets ever in Alaska.

With 429 of 438 precincts counted this morning,, Miller had 45,909 votes (51 percent) to 43,949 (49 percent) for Murkowski.

Miller credited the support of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his lead.

"I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he said.

Lisa Murkowski is not quite as happy with the Governor. Though just recently she said she harbored no hard feelings because Palin endorsed Joe Miller, she certainly seemed a bit bitter last night:

Murkowski on Tuesday night took a shot at Palin, saying that when Palin resigned as governor last summer she said she would use her new national role to help out Alaska.

"I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest," Murkowski said as she waited at her campaign headquarters for results to come in.

I wonder if Murkowski would have had a different perspective had Governor Palin managed to throw her a bone with an endorsement. What exactly is Murkowski's beef anyway? Governor Palin backed a conservative candidate who has a desire to serve the state of Alaska in the way voters expect. Murkowski's voting record does not serve the interests of her constituents, she functions too much like the other side of the aisle, and it's time for her to go. Governor Palin has done her part to help make that happen by backing a true conservative named Joe Miller. Sounds to me like a great benefit to both the state of Alaska and the United States of America.

And the Governor's influence has made all the difference in the world:

Palin and the Tea Party Express made a big push to convince Alaskans to dump Murkowski for Miller. Polls had shown Murkowski with a big lead just three weeks ago. But Miller supporters had thought it was narrowing and were expressing confidence earlier in the day Tuesday that they would be pulling off an upset.

This was the first test of Palin's influence on Alaska politics since she resigned as governor last summer, and the first sign of how influential the Tea Party movement can be in shaping political races in this state. The race was being closely watched nationally as a sign of Palin and the Tea Party's strength, but also because Murkowski is one of the leading Republicans in the Senate.

There may be a long way to go on this one, but Joe Miller has already done what no one thought he could, no one except Governor Palin, of course, who obviously saw his great potential. We await, with her, the "miracle on ice".

Governor Palin Awaiting "Miracle on Ice"

It was a huge night for Governor Palin's endorsees. Results are in for four out of five of these particular elections, which I covered here, here, here, and here. The Governor is batting 1,000.

Alaskan Joe Miller, taking on incumbent Lisa Murkowski for U.S. Senate, is leading in a very tight race. Not many people expected him to have a shot at first. He was out-spent and not as well-known, but he is definitely the true conservative in the race. Governor Palin brought attention to Miller with her endorsement, allowing him to surge.

Carl M. Cannon reports:

Meanwhile in Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski was leading Miller going into the day, but partial results show her trailing. Miller, a Fairbanks lawyer, war hero and West Point graduate, mainly attracted national attention because of his endorsement by Palin, a longtime Murkowski rival.

Ian Lazaran writes:

Nobody in Alaska knew who Joe Miller was prior to her endorsement. Prior to her endorsement, Miller had no chance. Keep in mind too that Murkowski outspent him by a 10-to-1 margin.

No other Republican would have taken a chance on an underdog like Miller except for Palin. That she has been able to push him to get so close to an incumbent with a 10-to-1 fundraising advantage speaks volumes about the power she wields.

The end result could go either way, and it could take quite some time before this one is decided, but as Lazaran explained in his article, Governor Palin has already won. Now we just need to keep pulling for a Joe Miller victory. Lisa Murkowski's record shows she's no conservative, and her pro-abortion stand doesn't help her any. Here's to Joe!

Lisa Murkowski Claims No Hard Feelings Regarding Gov. Palin's Endorsement of Joe Miller

Senator Lisa Murkowski says there are no hard feelings between Governor Palin and herself, despite the fact that the Governor endorsed Joe Miller for Senate over her. However, she did admit to being surprised.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s endorsement of her more conservative GOP primary challenger caught her by surprise but strongly disputes the notion that there is a “blood war” between two of the most powerful families in Alaska.

While Murkowski dismissed the notion that she and Palin have anything less than a "respectful professional relationship," she was less kind when discussing the Tea Party Express' endorsement of Joe Miller, but they were quick to correct her assertions:

“When somebody from another state comes in and says, ‘I’m here because I don’t think that your senator is doing what she needs to do,’ as an Alaskan, I take a little bit of offense at that,” she said. “I can observe for myself, I can make my own decisions. And besides that, what does a Californian know about what the people in Alaska need and want?”

Levi Russell, communications director for the Tea Party Express, said that while the main office is located in Sacramento, the group boasts roughly 400,000 members nationwide, including 2,000 in Alaska.

“To say that we’re California-based I think is insulting to all our proud Alaskans that are members,” said Russell.

Murkowski complains that outsiders should have no say in who represents Alaskans in the Senate. I beg to differ, of course, as anyone we send to Washington affects the entire nation. Nonetheless, I will play by her rules and focus on one of her own constituents. Obviously, she is out of touch with Alaskans who are not at all pleased with the job she's doing. Indeed, I pointed out Alaska's own Tracey Porreca in an earlier post, and there's more from Tracey. Asked to endorse Joe Miller, Tracey was more than glad. She wrote:

There are many ways to describe Joe Miller – West Point Graduate, decorated war veteran, Alaskan by choice, attorney, magistrate, father, husband, and conservative. These alone speak volumes about the man who is the right choice for Alaska. Joe’s life experiences and true desire to lead Alaska, and this country, in a positive and conservative direction make him the only choice for US Senate in Alaska. That is why as an informed conservative Alaskan, I am voting for Joe Miller and I strongly encourage you to as well.

There has been quite a bit of flap in Alaska Republican circles recently regarding an email that was forwarded to many prominent republicans in this state by John Bitney on behalf of Lisa Murkowski. I received this email, as did others on an undisclosed list. In it was a response from the Murkowski camp stating that her "political operatives" were "outright lying" in regard to her record. While it is true that, on occasion, Sen. Murkowski appears to have voted conservatively in the past, a closer look at her record shows she's always been a RINO and personally lost me way back, in particular on her stance during the national healthcare reform debate. I could not condone her stance on Obamacare and other issues, so I was more than thrilled when Joe Miller threw his hat in the ring to run in the primary for the US Senate seat in Alaska.

I'm glad Lisa Murkowski has no hard feelings about Governor Palin's common sense endorsement of Joe Miller for US Senate. However, Lisa may have a thing or two to learn still about serving the people of Alaska who sent her to represent their best interests--and dismissing them while siding with Liberals in Washington is the type of politics-as-usual Americans are fed up with.

Joe Miller, the True Conservative Choice (w/ Radio Ad)

A true conservative from the state of Alaska is running for United States Senate. Joe Miller is that conservative, and he is positioned to unseat Lisa Murkowski whose record shows her to be anything but in touch with the people who sent her to Washington to represent their best interests. Rather than standing up for conservative values, she has demonstrated a Liberal bent that is not what the people of her state expected of her. This is just one reason it's Miller Time!

Her attitude is precisely the problem in Washington today, precisely why common sense conservatives are counting down the days to the November mid-term elections, and precisely why Governor Palin endorsed Joe Miller.



So what are Alaskans saying? My friend, Tracey Porreca, in her article, "Another reason I'm voting for Joe Miller," gives her take on why America needs Miller in and Murkowski out. Read her article here.

Perhaps Murkowski's unacceptable voting record can best be understood by taking a look at the grades she's received from various prominent conservative organizations:

Murkowski's grades beg this question: is this the best we can do? The answer is a resounding, "No!" Not when there's a better a choice. Joe Miller is that choice. Alaskans, your vote impacts the entire nation. Vote Joe Miller in the August 24th Primary.

Endorsement: Joe Miller for US Senate

Recently I was asked if I would endorse Joe Miller for US Senate in Alaska. Those of you who follow my blog know that my resounding answer was "YES!" Here is my endorsement:

"There are many ways to describe Joe Miller – West Point Graduate, decorated war veteran, Alaskan by choice, attorney, magistrate, father, husband, and conservative. These alone speak volumes about the man who is the right choice for Alaska. Joe’s life experiences and true desire to lead Alaska, and this country, in a positive and conservative direction make him the only choice for US Senate in Alaska. That is why as an informed conservative Alaskan, I am voting for Joe Miller and I strongly encourage you to as well."

Feeling The Heat, Lisa Murkowski Is Now Lashing Out At Joe Miller’s Supporters

As readers know, from time to time, we will endorse and promote Common Sense Conservative candidates from around the country. Many of these are candidates endorsed by Sarah Palin, others are people we learn of, check out, and feel are worthy of a little time, energy, and ink.

We’ve supported Joe Miller since we learned of his candidacy. We like the guy. He’s a solid Common Sense Conservative who believes in the Constitution and the Rule of Law, and a genuinely nice guy, with a compelling story.

In early June Sarah endorsed Judge Miller and Stacy Drake laid out a strong case in support of the endorsement, which you can read here.

In her article, Stacy points out some of Lisa Murkowski’s troubling record, including her flip-flop on repealing ObamaCare. Of course, Lisa isn’t the only GOP Big Government, establishment elite, who has gone soft and is ignoring the wishes of the American people, the majority of which strongly support repealing this unconstitutional nightmare. All of the usual suspects are there with her.

A few days ago, we received a video of Lisa Murkowski, that backed up the article Stacy wrote quite nicely. In her article, Stacy quotes Murkowski as saying:

Repealing this is not the answer in my opinion, because if you just repeal and you do nothing, we will not have addressed health care reform.

When I posted the video, I opened with these remarks:

The above video hit my inbox a day ago and serves to remind us all of a real danger America faces: squishy, "moderate" Republicans. Look, we know what we have with the Obama regime, and his Congress. They are all hard core communists, hellbent on grabbing as much power as possible, and destroying the very fabric of American society, hoping to replace it all with their sick vision of life and government. As horrifying as that is, at least we know it, and can fight it. There should be no delusions about who these Marxist-democrats are.

On the other hand, many people see "Republican" and think "conservative" which can be very dangerous. While real conservatives believe in the Constitution and the Rule of Law, these squishy establishment Republicans, like Lisa Murkowski, have no real solid principles, and end up being nothing more than enablers for the Marxist-democrats who are destroying our nation. Many are all too eager to help, so they can say they are "bi-partisan" and call themselves "statesmen."

The timid, milquetoast moderates in the Republican Party have destroyed it, and while doing so, aided the Marxist-democrats in their quest to destroy the Republic, and it’s Constitution. Part of the problem is they are spineless cowards. Another problem is they are incredibly stupid and don’t realize we are at a state of war in this nation for the very soul of the Republic. Of course, there is also the question of corruption, and the raw lust for power.

Our readers can judge for themselves how many of these descriptions fit the good Senator from Alaska.

Anyhow, we were able to clear up some space and add a link to Joe’s campaign in our sidebar to make it easier for people to support him.

Evidently, seeing the growing support for Judge Miller, and realizing she will soon lose the seat that she was appointed to by her daddy, then Governor Frank Murkowski, Lisa is upset at all of us who love the idea of seeing her soundly defeated.

Checking out one of our favorite Alaskan blogs, the Wasilla based Finding Myself In Alaska, Tracey writes about the latest Joe Miller news. As she is on the ground up there, I’ll let her tell the story:

Here is the letter Judge Miller’s campaign sent out (the emphasis is left as original):

Dear Fellow Republicans:

Recently the Murkowski campaign circulated an email through the Alaska Republican Party asserting that "political operatives are mischaracterizing Lisa’s record [and] some of these claims are outright lies." We wanted to assure Party members, and the Murkowski camp, that our campaign has not engaged in such behavior. We decided to look into the charges, and here is what we found. It turns out that they were responding to emails being circulated by concerned citizens acting of their own accord. They were not being directed to do anything by Joe Miller for US Senate. Some of the material being circulated may have originated with us, but we were unable to decipher what material may have come from us, and what did not, since the specifics of what the Murkowski campaign was responding to is still somewhat in doubt.

However, we would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight as to what it is that we are saying. It is clear to us that by any objective measure, Senator Murkowski is not a conservative and her record will bear that out. Her campaign has insisted that "Lisa is well known for her conservative voting record." Rather than engage in a "he said – she said" moment, let's take a look at what the conservatives inside the beltway have concluded, based upon her voting record and their observation.

The American Conservative Union (Lifetime) – 70.19%

Freedom Works – 50%

Human Events – Top Five RINO's in the United States Senate

National Taxpayer's Union (Lifetime) – 63%

Citizens Against Government Waste (Lifetime) – 54%

Senate Conservatives Fund (2008) – 50%

Eagle Forum – 63%

American Family Association – 33%

Family Research Council – 55%

The aforementioned letter states, "She [Murkowski] recently led efforts to stop the massive power-grab by the EPA which President Obama threatened to Veto." The Senator's EPA Amendment is well-rehearsed and we applaud her for her attempt to stop this naked power grab, but we should be clear about what the Amendment would, and would not have done.

Following is Senator Murkowski's own statement about her EPA Amendment delivered to The Council on Competitiveness' National Energy Summit and International Dialogue on September 23, 2009:

"Since my amendment has stirred a bit of controversy, I want to take a second to 'clear the air'. My amendment would not stop this process forever - it would simply give Congress a year to debate climate policies and determine the best approach for reducing emissions. Given that no climate bill would take effect before 2012, my amendment would not slow down or detract from the overall process. And given that almost everyone involved in the climate debate prefers legislation to regulation, I'm hopeful that it will draw enough votes to pass. I am equally hopeful that the climate debate, without the cloud of economically harmful EPA regulations hanging over it, can move forwards toward a bill that can pass the Senate. I want my colleagues and constituents to know that I'm serious about climate change . . ."

Further, it has been asserted that "[Senator Murkowski] has an A+ rating from the NRA." We would point out that the Senator has demonstrated marked improvement in this area, considering her D rating with the NRA while in the Alaska State House, but she is still labeled a "pro-gun compromiser" by Gun Owners of America.

As to the Senator's opposition to tax increases, we would not deny that she has opposed some tax increases, but has certainly not opposed them across the board. She voted against the 2008 Bush Tax Rebates, against multiple points of order requiring a super-majority to raise taxes, voted in favor of tobacco tax increases, and is currently entertaining the possibility of a new carbon tax on emissions.

It has also been asserted that the Senator has voted to fully repeal, and "unequivocally supports the repeal of Obama Care." But it should be pointed out that the "repeal" vote took place before the reconciliation bill actually passed. Five days after the reconciliation bill passed, the Senator said "repealing [Obamacare] is not the answer in my opinion . . ." It should not be difficult to see why we are somewhat confused as to where she really stands on the issue.

As to the claim that "Senator Lisa Murkowski opposes Big Government, Government Spending, Government Bailouts, Government Takeover, and Deficit Spending," we can only refer you to the record.

Voting for the largest new entitlement program in a generation (Medicare, Part D), in addition to unwarranted federal health care expansions (SCHIP/CHIPRA) that even the big-spending President George W. Bush vetoed on the grounds that it was "a move toward socialized medicine," is hardly an effective way to prove your opposition to Big Government.

Voting against the majority of your Republican colleagues on six excessive Appropriations packages just in the last year is not a convincing argument against Government Spending.

Voting for TARP (Big Bank and Wall Street) bailouts, voting to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and voting to protect the Obama Administration's plan for a $108B slush fund for International bailouts does not make a persuasive case for opposition to Government Bailouts. It should also be also be pointed out that the Senator's campaign operatives would have us applaud her for attempting to clean up her own mess (TARP). One might say, 'she actually voted for it . . . before she voted against it.' Does she really get credit for a failed attempt to fix what she broke herself? Really?

Without even going further, which could be done at some length, the aforementioned votes prove conclusively that the Senator is not serious about curbing deficit spending.

On the illegal immigration front, it is an ineluctable fact that the Senator voted for Amnesty in 2006, and against a border security amendment taken in December of 2009 that would have required the southern border fence (physical barrier, not a virtual fence that is virtually porous) to be finished by December 2010. If the Senator is such an advocate for the conservative position on illegal immigration, why did she vote for the amnesty bill in 2006 and vote to take up the bill again in 2007? Why did she have to be strong-armed into voting no on cloture in 2007? Why has US Border Control only given her a 33% score for her stance on border issues?

And finally, "as Alaska’s US Senator, Lisa Murkowski opposes the use of federal funds for abortions." While we accuse nobody of lying, this statement simply does not accord with her record. We need go no further than the Anchorage Daily News last week, where it was reported that 662 abortions were funded through Denali Kid Care:  "http://www.adn.com/2010/06/17/1329098/denali-kidcare-funded-664-abortions.html"http://www.adn.com/2010/06/17/1329098/denali-kidcare-funded-664-abortions.html.That is the Senator's CHIPRA vote at work.

She has voted no less than four times for repeal, or against reinstatement, of the "Mexico City Policy" put in place by President Reagan to bar Federal dollars from foreign non-governmental organizations that provide or promote abortions.

I would also point to Senator Murkowski's unequivocal statement in voting for a sense of the Senate Amendment that reads as follows:

"It is the sense of the Senate that--the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned."

The Senator has been named a Wish List Star. The Wish List is a pro-choice organization whose mission is stated as follows: "The WISH List raises funds to identify, support and elect pro-choice Republican women." Pretty damning facts, I’d say. And while Lisa Murkowski can whine all she wants, we have her on video, in her own voice, stating she doesn’t want to repeal ObamaCare and views it as a "work in progress." Only a Big Government Statist would look at one of the biggest power grabs in history, an unconstitutional boondoggle that will not only destroy the quality of health care in the nation, but bankrupt us all as well, and see a "work in progress"! These people are insane!

Here’s an idea for you Senator Murkowski: Instead of whining about how "political operatives" are being all mean and junk, how about you take a look at what is going on with RomneyCare?

Mitt Romney’s "crowning achievement" in Massachusetts is a disaster of biblical proportions. It’s destroying health care in the Bay State and bankrupting those poor bastards as well. Remember, RomneyCare was the absolute blueprint your buddies in Congress viewed as a "work in progress", and the starting point for the lunacy they created and shoved down America’s throat.

As for being a "political operative," get real Lisa! A lot of people, including Conservative bloggers, support Judge Joe Miller, and think it's time for you to go. We don't need to be directed by anyone to act on these strong feelings. We want to see all of the GOP establishment types, the Marxist-democrat enablers, defeated. We have grown rather sick of all of you!

While I appreciate the complement, as I do think we help shape reader opinion here, which is kinda the point, I have neither the time, or the temperament to be a "political operative." Though I will certainly support those I feel are true Common Sense Conservatives, who believe in the Constitution and the Rule of Law, my time is taken up with researching and writing.

My only contact with Joe Miller has been on Twitter, where he has thanked me, as well as many others for our support, and re-tweets. This is something few politicians take the time to do, and is a just a nice gesture. It says a lot about the man’s character. So does Sarah Palin’s endorsement!
