Irish Central: Palin's Endorsements Could Lead to White House

Irish Central's Patrick Roberts makes an observation about what Governor Palin's power to influence elections might say about 2012. Other than his unexplained assertion about "extreme" Conservative candidates, he offers an interesting perspective. Roberts writes:

Christine O'Donnell's victory in Delaware is the equivalent of the shot heard around the world.

It shows that Sarah Palin will gallop to the Republican nomination in two years if the current seething anger in the party of Lincoln continues.

Who will stop Palin now with the Republican right in such a fired up, throw the bums out mood?

Mitt Romney, not on your Nellie?

Newt Gingrich? Last century's man.

O'Donnell's victory is far more significant than that of Joe Miller in Alaska. It occurred in a blue state where moderate Republicans long held sway.

She deposed Michael Castle, the very epitome of the establishment Republican party, a long time moderate who seemed a perfect fit for the vacant senate seat.

Along with Sharon Angle's victory in Nevada, it shows that the Republican right wing is transcendent that no candidate is too extreme for them and that the party has lurched far more to the right than anyone believed.

Back home in Alaska Sarah Palin may well be measuring her prospects for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue if this continues.

As I have written here before it could well happen.

Palin Endorsement Betters Miller, Bitters Murkowski

The votes are still being tallied in the last of yesterday's Primary Day races involving candidates Governor Palin endorsed. Governor Palin's other endorsees, Pam Bondi, Allen West, Paul Gosar, and John McCain, emerged victorious. However, the eyes of the nation followed the Joe Miller-Lisa Murkowski show-down in Alaska, as Palin's endorsement put a relatively unknown Miller on the map. A day later, we're yet looking toward the North as votes are still being counted in a very close race that Miller is leading. He gives credit to Governor Palin for the good shape he's in.

The ADN reports today:

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is battling for her political life this morning against Republican primary challenger Joe Miller, the tea party-backed candidate who has a slim lead as ballots continue to be counted.

Miller, a Fairbanks attorney, led from when the first returns came in Tuesday night and was on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest election upsets ever in Alaska.

With 429 of 438 precincts counted this morning,, Miller had 45,909 votes (51 percent) to 43,949 (49 percent) for Murkowski.

Miller credited the support of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his lead.

"I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he said.

Lisa Murkowski is not quite as happy with the Governor. Though just recently she said she harbored no hard feelings because Palin endorsed Joe Miller, she certainly seemed a bit bitter last night:

Murkowski on Tuesday night took a shot at Palin, saying that when Palin resigned as governor last summer she said she would use her new national role to help out Alaska.

"I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest," Murkowski said as she waited at her campaign headquarters for results to come in.

I wonder if Murkowski would have had a different perspective had Governor Palin managed to throw her a bone with an endorsement. What exactly is Murkowski's beef anyway? Governor Palin backed a conservative candidate who has a desire to serve the state of Alaska in the way voters expect. Murkowski's voting record does not serve the interests of her constituents, she functions too much like the other side of the aisle, and it's time for her to go. Governor Palin has done her part to help make that happen by backing a true conservative named Joe Miller. Sounds to me like a great benefit to both the state of Alaska and the United States of America.

And the Governor's influence has made all the difference in the world:

Palin and the Tea Party Express made a big push to convince Alaskans to dump Murkowski for Miller. Polls had shown Murkowski with a big lead just three weeks ago. But Miller supporters had thought it was narrowing and were expressing confidence earlier in the day Tuesday that they would be pulling off an upset.

This was the first test of Palin's influence on Alaska politics since she resigned as governor last summer, and the first sign of how influential the Tea Party movement can be in shaping political races in this state. The race was being closely watched nationally as a sign of Palin and the Tea Party's strength, but also because Murkowski is one of the leading Republicans in the Senate.

There may be a long way to go on this one, but Joe Miller has already done what no one thought he could, no one except Governor Palin, of course, who obviously saw his great potential. We await, with her, the "miracle on ice".

Governor Palin Awaiting "Miracle on Ice"

It was a huge night for Governor Palin's endorsees. Results are in for four out of five of these particular elections, which I covered here, here, here, and here. The Governor is batting 1,000.

Alaskan Joe Miller, taking on incumbent Lisa Murkowski for U.S. Senate, is leading in a very tight race. Not many people expected him to have a shot at first. He was out-spent and not as well-known, but he is definitely the true conservative in the race. Governor Palin brought attention to Miller with her endorsement, allowing him to surge.

Carl M. Cannon reports:

Meanwhile in Alaska, Sen. Lisa Murkowski was leading Miller going into the day, but partial results show her trailing. Miller, a Fairbanks lawyer, war hero and West Point graduate, mainly attracted national attention because of his endorsement by Palin, a longtime Murkowski rival.

Ian Lazaran writes:

Nobody in Alaska knew who Joe Miller was prior to her endorsement. Prior to her endorsement, Miller had no chance. Keep in mind too that Murkowski outspent him by a 10-to-1 margin.

No other Republican would have taken a chance on an underdog like Miller except for Palin. That she has been able to push him to get so close to an incumbent with a 10-to-1 fundraising advantage speaks volumes about the power she wields.

The end result could go either way, and it could take quite some time before this one is decided, but as Lazaran explained in his article, Governor Palin has already won. Now we just need to keep pulling for a Joe Miller victory. Lisa Murkowski's record shows she's no conservative, and her pro-abortion stand doesn't help her any. Here's to Joe!

Lisa Murkowski Claims No Hard Feelings Regarding Gov. Palin's Endorsement of Joe Miller

Senator Lisa Murkowski says there are no hard feelings between Governor Palin and herself, despite the fact that the Governor endorsed Joe Miller for Senate over her. However, she did admit to being surprised.

Darren Goode of The Hill writes:

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s endorsement of her more conservative GOP primary challenger caught her by surprise but strongly disputes the notion that there is a “blood war” between two of the most powerful families in Alaska.

While Murkowski dismissed the notion that she and Palin have anything less than a "respectful professional relationship," she was less kind when discussing the Tea Party Express' endorsement of Joe Miller, but they were quick to correct her assertions:

“When somebody from another state comes in and says, ‘I’m here because I don’t think that your senator is doing what she needs to do,’ as an Alaskan, I take a little bit of offense at that,” she said. “I can observe for myself, I can make my own decisions. And besides that, what does a Californian know about what the people in Alaska need and want?”

Levi Russell, communications director for the Tea Party Express, said that while the main office is located in Sacramento, the group boasts roughly 400,000 members nationwide, including 2,000 in Alaska.

“To say that we’re California-based I think is insulting to all our proud Alaskans that are members,” said Russell.

Murkowski complains that outsiders should have no say in who represents Alaskans in the Senate. I beg to differ, of course, as anyone we send to Washington affects the entire nation. Nonetheless, I will play by her rules and focus on one of her own constituents. Obviously, she is out of touch with Alaskans who are not at all pleased with the job she's doing. Indeed, I pointed out Alaska's own Tracey Porreca in an earlier post, and there's more from Tracey. Asked to endorse Joe Miller, Tracey was more than glad. She wrote:

There are many ways to describe Joe Miller – West Point Graduate, decorated war veteran, Alaskan by choice, attorney, magistrate, father, husband, and conservative. These alone speak volumes about the man who is the right choice for Alaska. Joe’s life experiences and true desire to lead Alaska, and this country, in a positive and conservative direction make him the only choice for US Senate in Alaska. That is why as an informed conservative Alaskan, I am voting for Joe Miller and I strongly encourage you to as well.

In no uncertain terms, Tracey dubs Joe Miller the only conservative choice for Alaskans in this race:

As many of you may have seen by my posted pics and sidebar endorsement, I am supporting Joe Miller for US Senate in Alaska. There has been quite a bit of flap in Alaska Republican circles recently regarding an email that was forwarded to many prominent republicans in this state by John Bitney on behalf of Lisa Murkowski. I received this email, as did others on an undisclosed list. In it was a response from the Murkowski camp stating that her "political operatives" were "outright lying" in regard to her record. While it is true that, on occasion, Sen. Murkowski appears to have voted conservatively in the past, a closer look at her record shows she's always been a RINO and personally lost me way back, in particular on her stance during the national healthcare reform debate. I could not condone her stance on Obamacare and other issues, so I was more than thrilled when Joe Miller threw his hat in the ring to run in the primary for the US Senate seat in Alaska.

I'm glad Lisa Murkowski has no hard feelings about Governor Palin's common sense endorsement of Joe Miller for US Senate. However, Lisa may have a thing or two to learn still about serving the people of Alaska who sent her to represent their best interests--and dismissing them while siding with Liberals in Washington is the type of politics-as-usual Americans are fed up with.

Endorsement: Joe Miller for US Senate

Recently I was asked if I would endorse Joe Miller for US Senate in Alaska. Those of you who follow my blog know that my resounding answer was "YES!" Here is my endorsement:

"There are many ways to describe Joe Miller – West Point Graduate, decorated war veteran, Alaskan by choice, attorney, magistrate, father, husband, and conservative. These alone speak volumes about the man who is the right choice for Alaska. Joe’s life experiences and true desire to lead Alaska, and this country, in a positive and conservative direction make him the only choice for US Senate in Alaska. Governor Palin's Robocall for Karen Handel

Governor Palin recorded a robocall for Karen Handel, candidate for governor of the state of Georgia. Earlier this week, the Governor endorsed Handel on Facebook.



Here's the robocall transcript:

Hi. This is Governor Sarah Palin, and I am calling you today to ask you to support my friend, Karen Handel, in the Republican Primary for Governor this Tuesday.

The Primary is really close. So Karen’s opponents are kind of saying those kinds of crazy things about her. Please just get the truth for yourself. Karen is a pro-life, pro-family constitutionalist, a Republican who’s going to fight for what is right.

Governor Palin's Endorsees Win Again

Congratulations to Nikki Haley and Tim Scott of South Carolina!

MSNBC reports:

Nikki Haley, an Indian-American woman, handily won the Republican nomination for governor and Tim Scott, a black lawmaker, won the GOP nomination for a House seat in South Carolina primary runoffs Tuesday, a sign of racial progress in the Deep South and the GOP.

With her victory, state Rep. Haley moved one step closer to becoming the first female governor in the conservative-leaning state. She brushed aside allegations of marital infidelity and an ethnic slur to come within a percentage point of winning the gubernatorial nod outright on June 8. And with 66 percent of the precincts reporting in the runoff, she led with 65 percent of the vote to Rep. Gresham Barrett's 35 percent.

Scott, also a state lawmaker, hoped to become South Carolina's first black GOP congressman in more than a century. He beat Paul Thurmond, the son of the late U.S. Sen. and former segregationist Strom Thurmond in the runoff after securing the backing of several Republican leaders in Washington. With 83 percent of precincts counted, he led with 69 percent of the vote to 31 percent for Thurmond.

MSNBC would, of course, point out the race issue first. The victory here, however, rests in two conservatives coming out on top. While gender and race certainly do not go without notice, what's most important is that Haley and Scott espouse common sense principles, and we need more people with such commitment, regardless of gender and race.

The appropriate observation to take away from these elections is candidates' willingness to offer themselves up for service and Governor Palin's ability to once again catapult them to a place of success by rallying support from Americans who are demanding true hope and change.

Both Governor Palin and Star Parker are role models who inspire others to greatness. The Governor grew up hunting and fishing in the "Last Frontier." Star Parker had a more troubled upbringing and became a woman dependent on the government--until she saw the light. In spite of being from two different worlds, so to speak, today they both share an incredible love for America, a deep appreciation for hard work, and a commitment to common sense solutions. Governor Palin and the Fiorina Furor

The other day, I ticked some people off when I blogged about the whining going on as a result of Governor Palin's endorsement of Carly Fiorina for the California Senate race. Seems like some who disagreed with the governor took it personally and assumed I was talking about them. The truth is if the shoe doesn't fit, don't force the sucker on. If you weren't whining, obviously I wasn't talking about you, so pass it on to those who were. Some people on other venues were indeed whining, and if those particular individuals have a problem being called out, that's too bad. Like Governor Palin, I'm bold enough to stand by my statements.

I have always been the first to say we are not going to agree with anyone 100% of the time, including someone who has garnered as much respect as Governor Palin. That's life. Nonetheless, I simply cannot get used to the vehement anger displayed by some whenever she does something with which they don't agree. I say again what I've said before: the very thing that drew people to her is the very thing that makes people furious with her when she doesn't do what they expect. They were first drawn to her for being a maverick, a free-thinking, principled individual who is willing to take the heat to do what she believes is right. This same quality annoys the snot out of people when what she believes is right is not what they believe is right.

Again, I don't have a problem with tasteful disagreement. Welcome to America. But I have read comments on various venues where people have whined, complained, and made accusations about her character. A few have determined they will no longer support her. You know, the "you didn't do what I wanted you to do, so I'm taking my toys and going home!" mentality. Why...because their character didn't govern her decision? Mature people, on the other hand, have just acknowledged they disagree and engaged in adult conversation about it.

Now, when looking at the full picture, it is obvious to me that her endorsement of Carly Fiorina was the common sense decision. She is the conservative with the best chance in this race. Others disagree with this. That's cool, too. But the whining?

Despite facing fierce criticism from her supporters, Tea Party hero Sarah Palin isn't backing down from her endorsement of former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina in the GOP's U.S. Senate primary in California.

Palin's endorsement surprised and outraged many of her supporters who expected her to pick Tea Party favorite Chuck DeVore.

But Eric Odom, chairman of Liberty First PAC, a Tea Party-fueled political action committee, called Palin's endorsement an "unforgivable sin," and her second strike after endorsing her 2008 running mate John McCain in his Senate race.

"This one is much worse, though," Odom wrote on his blog, arguing that Fiorina is not a "commonsense conservative."

"The first strike was painful, but tolerable," he said. "This second strike is downright confusing, dishonest, and leaves me feeling cheated."

"Unforgivable sin"? "Dishonest"? "Cheated"? Too bad I didn't have this quote to use as an example last week when I taught my students the definition of hyperbole.

Thankfully, most people I have conversed with or have been quoted do understand the governor's free spirit and refusal to be controlled by any person or any particular movement.

One such person is Palin faithful, Jason Recher. Recher's analysis:

"The governor is never one to go with the flow," Jason Recher, a spokesman for Palin said, explaining that the former Alaska governor respects the differing opinions but is sticking by her choice. "She is a very independent person, and she shakes things up in establishments -- including grassroots establishments -- all the time."

Anyone who paid the slightest attention to the governor's career knows Recher's comments to be factual. Governor Palin's actions are nothing new.

Another such person is Rita Heidkamp. Her perspective:

In Fairbanks, Alaska, Tea Partier Rita Heidkamp said she has no personal position on the California endorsement. But it's Palin's choice to make, and no one else's, said Heidkamp, whose group -- the Fairbanks 912 Project -- organized a local Tea Party tax day rally.

"She should endorse whoever she thinks is the best candidate," Heidkamp said. "That's her right and her responsibility."

Thank you, Heidkamp. Governor Palin doesn't make these decisions lightly. It is indeed her responsibility to make an endorsement that sits well with her conscience. Clearly, Fiorina is that person, and the governor highlighted exactly why in her Facebook note.

I left the following comment on Team Sarah:

It amazes me that after all we know about the governor and her track record in AK, some still don't seem to "get" that she is her own person and will stand by her own principles. She is no puppet on a string. After all, isn't that what we say we love about her?

The endorsement has been made. Now, the onus is still on Fiorina, DeVore, and Campbell to take care of their business. The election is theirs to win or lose, and the governor has said many times how much she loves contested primaries. So we'll see what happens.

As I wrote previously, I agree with Governor Palin: Fiorina is the only common sense choice in this race.
