Conservative Girl with a Voice and 25,000 of her Closest Friends Invade Harry Reid's Hometown

What a sight to behold. Men and women of every age, race and color. Children, some of whom were not yet old enough to walk. Moms pushing strollers along a never-ending, bumpy road along side a two lane traffic-filled highway. Dads educating their sons about America and what she stands for. Grandmas waving flags patriotically while their husbands talked about the good ol' days when men and women strived to achieve the American dream. Individuals with special needs who smiled and held out a hand whenever a new friend passed by along the way. The veterans, many of whom wore veteran caps, whose love for their country was clearly evident in the way they talked about the wars in which they fought for the freedoms we now enjoy and hold most dear. The dogs, many of which were dressed up in patriotic t-shirts happily wagged their tails and licked the hands of children nearby. My fellow Americans, the Tea Party Express event that took place in Searchlight, Nevada, this passed Saturday March 27th was truly a modern-day Conservative Woodstock. An event so huge that people parked and walked what seemed like miles just to get in. I have always been a proud American, and I love my country, but what I experienced this past Saturday has made me an even prouder American and even more grateful to our founders and the Constitution to which our country is based.

For those of you who have never been to Searchlight, Nevada, you need to realize that this little town, population 798, is in the middle of the desert. Picture a deserted area somewhere in the desert and then picture a small town in the middle of this deserted land, and fellow readers, you have Searchlight U.S.A. For one day, for a brief moment in time, this little town became a monument for the Conservative Movement and the future of the tea party movement as a whole. This little desert became the location of an event so huge that its effects will be felt for days. For just a few hours, people from all walks of life, gender and faiths trekked up a deserted highway as if they were apart of a parade, or better yet- a pilgrimage through a desolate land. I will never forget the line of vehicles with the most patient of people inside, many of whom were in awe at what they were witnessing. Like them, I couldn't believe the enthusiasm around me. Like many, I have attended tea parties for months dating back to April 15th, 2009, but the Searchlight Tea Party was different for many reasons. Sure, it was being held in Harry Reid's hometown and the intensity level was at an all-time high at the thought of booting the Nevada senator's tush to the curb, but what really got me was the distances some traveled just to be there in this promise land of sorts where everyone gathered for a common purpose, a common goal. I met people from all over our great country. A woman from Anchorage, Alaska, a couple who, like me, traveled from San Diego , a family from Utah and even a woman from Georgia. I wouldn't be surprised if each and every one of our 50 states was represented there. This voyage united us all, for we were all there as Americans- Americans concerned about the direction our country is headed.

The multitude of signage was phenomenal. Signs with phrases like Real Men Honor the Constitution, God is in Control, Harry Reid has Taxed Me to Death, Sarah is Right, and the classic Don't Tread on Me were just some of my favorites. As I watched everyone around me, the media repeatedly came to my mind. The media and liberal left who continually try to act as if the tea party movement is an Astroturf movement in which people are basically bribed to show up and participate. Let me tell you something: The event I witnessed this past Saturday was as far from an Astroturf event as they come. Astroturf is fake, hard and cold. The tea party movement is a grassroots movement that is authentic, real and growing hotter by the day. There is no denying the fundamental point that Astroturf DOES NOT grow, and if the Searchlight tea party event is any indication, this grassroots movement IS growing and will continue to do so. The difference between liberals and tea party attendees is simple: When liberals get mad, they resort to lying, name-calling and violence. When tea party attendees get angry, they take peaceful action. They gather their loved ones together, and they set out on a voyage where they meet like-minded individuals who love their country and want to set it back on the right course toward fiscal conservatism and smaller government. They chart a course because they want the day to come when their elected officials will actually start LISTENING to them instead of IGNORING them. This is a course that adheres to the constitution instead of ignoring it. This is a course that promotes the use of an individual's First-Amendment right as the fundamental way in which individuals have the ability and the right to stand up and speak out without being told to sit down and shut up. Fellow readers, the left wants us to do just that. They want us to forfeit and take our flags and go home. They want us to roll up our signs and throw them in the recycling bin, but we know better. We know change- real change- is coming, and we know the only way to succeed is to keep up the good and noble fight and not fall prey to the left's attempt to bury us into the earth so many among us have fought to protect with their own sweat and tears.

The men, women and children who attended the Searchlight rally came because they WANTED TOO. They felt compelled to come and witness history in the making. The people I spoke with each had his or her own reason for being there. The majority of individuals came out on this windy, cold day and gathered on this dusty desert floor to let Harry Reid know that they were no longer going to let him abuse his senate powers and the constitution to which our country is based. To put it kindly, these people are pissed off. They are sick and tired of the fat cats in Washington. Our elected officials should be working FOR us, not AGAINST us. One gentleman whom I spoke with believes that Washington changes elected officials. Whether or not we want to admit it, this gentleman is right. Many politicians run with good intentions. They run with the hope of representing their constituents to the best of their ability, but as soon as they get to Washington, the power and greed overtake them. They lose sight of why they were elected, and they let the power and greed seep deep into their veins. Now, I don't know Harry Reid. Maybe he ran for office because, like me, he wanted to make a difference. Although this may have been his intention, it is no secret that he has lost his way. His hometown of Searchlight, Nevada, is a humble place people usually drive right by without a second thought. Just like many other small mining towns in America, it gets overlooked. It is in an isolated part of Nevada, which ironically seems to symbolize Harry Reid- a man whose approval rating is at around eight percent. Perhaps Harry Reid should do what I, and thousands of others did yesterday, and pay his hometown a visit. Maybe he'd learn a thing or two. Visit the corner gas station, or maybe grab a coffee in the cafe. Perhaps he should stop by the casino for a bite to eat. Would he learn what I learned yesterday? Would he learn that those who live in his little hometown and little cities like it all around America are hard-working family types who are living paycheck to paycheck. Sure, he has his supporters. We were all welcomed to such a large outpouring of Harry Reid supporters- 30 in all (and that's being generous) as we made our way through one of the town’s only four-way stop signs. After rolling down our windows, waving and telling the protesters "God bless you" and " Isn't it great we live in a place were we can voice our First-Amendment right," we couldn't help, but giggle at the jeers we got back. I found it ironic that these same people who call us angry mobsters, were the individuals who illustrated the most anger. These same individuals who call us violent right-wing extremists and racists were the same individuals who decided to throw eggs at the Tea Party Express bus as it departed Searchlight. I guarantee the mainstream, or as Sarah Palin correctly calls them "lamestream media" were not going give this insane act the attention it correctly deserved. Instead, they would rather accuse tea party attendees like myself of being racist and anti-American. Well, maybe they should listen to what Sarah told that heckler in Arizona: "Stick around, maybe you'll learn something." I, for one, sure learned something yesterday. I learned how much I love my country. I learned about how beautiful, how authentic the entire tea party movement is. This is a movement that started small and has grown to a massive movement without a single leader. This movement doesn't need a leader because it has thousands of leaders all over this great land. Men, women, children and their pets. These same individuals who walked in from miles back just to gather peacefully and speak out about the fears they have for the direction this country is headed.

These are the same individuals who cheered, laughed and cried when Sarah addressed the crowd. Sarah's speech was phenomenal. While I have met her in the past, this was the first time, I had the honor to see her speak live. It was so amazing! As soon as they began to address her as "Todd's wife; Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig's mom; and Tripp's grandma, the crowd erupted with the loudest cheers and applause. You had to be there, for it was a moment that I will NEVER forget. People were there to voice their First-Amendment right AND to see her; she was truly the woman of the hour. Woodstock may have had Joe Cocker, but the tea party movement can say they have Sarah Palin, and boy, did she give a great speech. She spoke for about a half hour about the importance of love for God and country, for the need to boot Harry out, for the importance of the tea party movement, and for the unfortunate way in which tea party attendees are being unfairly attacked. She thanked us for attending and continuing to stand up and speak out. It was so cool to be there. As she spoke, five jets wrote messages in puffy, white smoke above in the crystal-blue sky. One of the messages read Thank you, Sarah Palin. Another read, God bless Sarah Palin. I learned later that night from a friend that Sarah looked up to the sky at one point and blushed, and I have a feeling she was looking at what was being written. She was overwhelmed at just how amazing the whole event was. It was during her speech that I developed shivers and had tears in my eyes. It finally hit me, and I was overwhelmed at just how BIG this movement really is. There were many other great patriots who spoke that day. People like Andrew Breitbart, Hannah Giles, Victoria Jackson, Joe the Plumber, Danny Tarkanian (whom I’m trying to get on Camille Friend and my radio show), as well as many other great Americans. It was truly a great day. I even ran into California Senate Candidate Chuck Devore and his family as I was walking into the event. We had been tweeting back and forth the whole morning, and I had been passing along traffic updates to them as well, so we laughed about how many people showed up and how windy and chilly it was.

Don't let the pundits and msm tell you that only 7,000 people showed up yesterday. I was there, and I can testify that there were at least 20,000 people there if not more. This is huge when you take into account that this event was held in the boonies, in the desert, in the middle of nowhere right to the side of a two lane road. I will never forget the excitement level. I will never forget how safe I felt with those around me. I bonded with the individuals I spoke with, and while I will probably never see them again, we will forever be connected. Another thing I want to mention is just how patriotic and kind those in attendance were. One incident comes to mind. Being the high-energy girl I am, I didn't bring a chair, and the gentleman next to me asked if I wanted to sit in his. This one person is an indication of just how great the people in attendance were. We were even lucky enough to see a protester, and you know how violent and angry us tea party attendees are, right? We were so mean that we allowed the guy to parade his sign around, and no one confronted him or threatened him because like us, he was there voicing his First-Amendment right, and fellow readers, that is our beautiful God-given right; that is what makes America-America. Yeah, based upon this event, I’d say us tea party folks are pretty downright evil aren't we? Were so evil that we give up our seats for our fellow man and allow others to protest us. So much for the media even attempting to get it right. If the media wanted to report their stories in a straightforward, objective manner, they would be reporting just how neat, polite and intelligent we really are, but the media do not want the truth out there because they know that if the real story got out, they would be toast. Millions would learn how corrupt and biased the lamestream media really are.

I thank God each and everyday that I live in a country where I can stand up tall and freely speak out. Nobody should be told to shut up and sit down if they are simply speaking out on policies to which they disagree. The people who gathered yesterday gathered together in a united front. Whatever the media report, know this: There were no acts of violence yesterday; there were no threats, only promises. We CAN guarantee that come this November, the democrats WILL be shaking in their boots. The democrats WILL lose seats, and the democrats WILL finally realize they were downright WRONG when they called the tea party movement a fringe group that will have no effect on upcoming elections. I'm predicting right now that if the Republicans continue to listen to the American people and chart a course back down the path of Ronald Reagan, we WILL win. In the end, Sarah Palin is right: "No matter how tough it gets, never retreat, instead RELOAD!”

It was a great day, and I was happy the rain did not dampen the spirits of the many, many patriotic Americans in attendance. As the San Diego Regional Organizer for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee, I set up a table and had had the chance to speak with many individuals about Sarah and her common sense conservative values. Contrary to popular belief, there are many individuals here in California who adore Sarah and all she stands for.

Conservative Revolution Brewing: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

It happened right after the presidential election last year; now, it's happening once again. Some liberal democrats and so-called "big tent" rinos are placing the blame on Sarah Palin for Hoffman's loss last night in the NY 23 race. Fellow readers, I knew and you knew that this would happen. There's always a fall guy, and in this case, a fall woman. In blaming Sarah for Hoffman's loss, we once again see just how wrong and ill placed these individuals are. There is a very good reason for why they blame Sarah, and I have a feeling you know what it is. What other reason would there be for placing the blame on her other than the fact that they fear her and the power she possesses. Sarah is a threat to everything the left hopes to accomplish. Not only is she not afraid to speak, but whenever she does, people take notice, which explains why so many hang, then attack her on her every word.



The NY 23 race is proof yet again of Sarah's power as a conservative Republican. While the media, leftists and moderate Republicans will place some of the blame on her, there is no doubt that without Sarah's endorsement of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, he would not have come close to winning yesterday. Take this Daily Kos Poll, which was taken before Sarah endorsed Hoffman. Before Sarah endorsed him, he had 27% of people supporting him. Last night, after the election results were tallied, Hoffman got 45% of the vote. You do the math, and you will see that her endorsing him helped him gain an additional 18% of the vote. In the end, Hoffman came within about four percentage points of beating the Democrat and the Republican. Although Dede Scozzafava dropped out of the race this past Saturday, she still had about six percent of the vote. That's not all. Scozzafava ended up going against her party when she endorsed the Democrat, Bill Owens. So, you see, the power of conservatism did win out yesterday. The power of conservatism was seen yesterday. The power of conservatism echoed throughout the country yesterday as 46 percent of upstate NY residents sent a message loud and clear that they are fed up with both the Republican and Democratic Parties. As a conservative, I am so proud of all those who chose values and integrity over party.



About a month ago, Hoffman was a little-known candidate from a third party. I have to admit that I knew very little about this race and the candidates in it. This all changed when Fred Thompson and, then, Sarah Palin took the brave step forward and endorsed him. Just before her endorsement, I had begun to study this race after reading some articles over at the Palin Twibe and the Sarah Palin Internet Web Brigade. I wanted to write about Hoffman and my support for his candidacy. Right before I endorsed him on my blog, Sarah endorsed him too. I had high hopes that she would endorse him, and when she did, she illustrated everything I knew to be true about her. She demonstrated yet again just how much of the real deal she is. She IS one of us. It IS because of her that Hoffman rose from the ashes and began to get national attention. It IS because of her that thousands from all over the country lent their money and time to his grassroots campaign. It IS because of her that members of this rapidly growing conservative movement know that our message is being heard and resonating across this great land. Just as she helped John McCain a year ago, she helped Doug Hoffman last night. Don't let the liberal left and moderate Republicans tell you differently, for they want you to shut up and sit down. Sarah released a statement last night following the NY 23 election in which she wrote:

A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal Sanity:

Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I'd also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office.

Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. Your voices have been heard.

The race for New York's 23rd District is not over, just postponed until 2010. The issues of this election have always centered on the economy - on the need for fiscal restraint, smaller government, and policies that encourage jobs. In 2010, these issues will be even more crucial to the electorate. I commend Doug Hoffman and all the other under-dog candidates who have the courage to put themselves out there and run against the odds.

To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates like Doug, please remember Reagan's words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976:

"The cause goes on. Don't get cynical because look at yourselves and what you were willing to do, and recognize that there are millions and millions of Americans out there that want what you want, that want it to be that way, that want it to be a shining city on a hill."

Sarah writes what so many of us feel about the hopes and dreams we have for America. Just as Ronald Reagan before her, she is able to make us realize that we will conquer, and we will win in the end. Look at how far we have come over this past year! Last year on election night, I had tears in my eyes as I realized that America had perhaps just let go of an individual who could have gone on to become one of the the greatest vice presidents of all time. I was heart broken as I thought of how hard of a battle the election was. I knew America was going to change dramatically over the course of the next year, and this is exactly what has happened. Our country has changed and not for the better.



Looking back at how I felt a year ago, I may have been heartbroken and felt defeated, but I am able to say that a year later, I feel so blessed to be a proud member of a movement that is rapidly growing by the day. The conservative movement is on fire, and this is a fire that is not going to be out by even the most powerful of fire extinguishers. Sarah gives me hope and optimism that America will once again be the beacon of light and that beautiful, shining city on a hill. She has done so much for our country. Sarah's tireless service and dedication are two things that no liberal can ever take away from her.



While she continues to fight the good fight, I will continue to fight the good fight, and you all need to continue the good fight as well. Together, we stand strong, and together we can knock down any barrier that stands in our way. Keep up the good fight. I encourage you to continue to attend tea parties and keep the pressure on. I encourage you to start a blog. Think of it as a daily journal that you are sharing with you fellow man and woman. Writing this blog has opened so many doors, but most importantly, it has allowed me to spread the common sense message of conservatism and allowed me to meet so many amazing like-minded people. So, fellow readers, let us continue down this road together united for a common goal and purpose, for in the end, we WILL win the battle and conquer the war.

Was I in outer space when Katie Couric became an expert on the Republican Party? Uh, I don't think so. After basically setting out to destroy Sarah Palin and using her news time to criticize the GOP, Katie Couric seems to think she suddenly is a know-it-all when it comes to the Grand Old Party. Huh? Although Katie thinks she knows best, it is clear she has a set agenda of wanting to take down the Republican Party, not help it. A couple days ago on her newscast, little Miss Couric said the following about the Republican Party (courtesy of Mark Finkelstein of NewsBusters.org):


"As Politico reported, there's growing concern among some GOP leaders that controversial commentators and far-right conservatives have hijacked the message. People like Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin appeal to the base - and you certainly need that base to win elections. But in an age when 42 percent of Americans call themselves Independents - you can't win with just the base, either.. . . Before the 2010 midterm elections roll around, Republicans need to get the focus back onto the Big Tent where all are welcome and off the sideshows that are popping up along the party's fringe."


During the campaign, did Katie focus too much on ripping Sarah to shreds that she forgot the Republican Party had its most liberal presidential candidate of all time? While it is important that individuals have the freedom to join the party of their choice, the party NEED NOT change its values and core principles. Would you change parking spaces after parking just because someone asks you too so they can take your space? Of course not, but it seems as if many in the Republican Party agree with Couric on this whole "Big Tent" theory.




What's so wrong with holding strong to your values? As I noted the other day, the Republican Party finds itself out in the wilderness as it searches for its identity. Why are they searching when the Republican Party just needs to find its way back home? The Republican Party needs to be restored and become the party it once was under Ronald Reagan. The party of fiscal conservatism, personal responsibility, strong national defense and tax cuts. Although you and I see this "coming home" analogy as a practical one, there are many looking to the media thinking they know what's best. It is no secret that the liberal msm are out to destroy the GOP. Couric is doing what her colleagues do on a daily basis. She is using the idea that the Republican Party needs to expand as a way to split the party.




Isn't it funny that the liberal msm always talks about the Republican Party's need to become more tolerant and accepting, yet they never do the same with the Democratic Party? Where are the journalists to call the donkeys out- asking questions like: "Doesn't the Democratic Party need to tighten the belt and become a little more moderate?" Nope, don't hear questions like that now do you.... Instead, you hear the msm target the Blue Dogs for daring to speak out against the proposed Health Care Plan. You hear people like Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann chastising the Blue Dogs for daring to question the liberal Democrats proposed agenda. You hear these same journalists call Sarah and Rush dangerous because they are conservative. Yeah, so much for the First Amendment, acceptance and tolerance.




In order for the Republican Party to have any success in the future, it needs to do the exact opposite of what the Katie Courics are saying. The Republican Party needs more candidates like Sarah and Jim DeMint, and less candidates like Olympia Snowe. While I greatly admire John McCain and his great service to our country, he was a weak candidate, plain and simple. The media pushed for his candidacy because they knew this. Journalists and liberals are scared of the Sarah and Rush's of the GOP. They are scared because they know a conservative movement is brewing. Glenn Beck made an excellent point last night on the O'Reilly Factor. Glenn believes Sarah may form a new third party based upon conservatism. While many are skeptical about the success a third party may have, Beck believes there are many individuals out there who are sick and tired of the politics as usual and the blame game that is currently going on in Washington D.C. A year ago, I probably would have agreed with the skeptics, but not anymore. Look at how rapidly the tea party movement has grown. This grassroots movement has taken the country by storm, and this movement isn't going anywhere. The New York District 23 race is proof of this.




"Mainstreet U.S.A." folks from all walks of life gather at tea parties to vent and voice their outrage because they feel their politicians don't listen to them anymore. The conservative movement is of this same breed. Like the tea party wildfire that is spreading rapidly, so is the conservative movement. I believe the 2010 elections are crucial to the conservative movement as a whole. Is the Republican Party going to wake up and return home to the values that made it great, or is this party going to remain out in the wilderness forcing its conservative and independent members to look for homes elsewhere? While this is yet to be seen, one thing remains true: It is important now more than ever to stand up and speak out in favor of the conservative values we hold most dear.




Sarah is the future of the Republican Party whether she chooses to run for president or not. I sincerely hope she chooses the first option because she is a conservative candidate who sticks to her values no matter where the tide carries her. She is living proof of what a true conservative candidate looks like! Like Ronald Reagan before her, Sarah remains vigilant to the conservative cause proving that, unlike so many other Republicans, she IS not out in the wilderness, but already home. Until the others find their way, she will continue to leave the porch light on, hoping they realize what she already knows: The conservative cause is worth fighting for.


BREAKING NEWS UPDATE IN NY 23 RACE: As on this morning, Rino Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava has, in fact, dropped out of the race. Here is her statement, which was published in the Watertown Daily Times:


"In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be.... The reality that I've come to accept is that in today's political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money -- and as I've been outspent on both sides, I've been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record...."


This is a HUGE win for both the conservative and tea party movements. This also illustrates the power of the barracuda herself, Sarah Palin. In endorsing Doug Hoffman, Sarah chose values over party. Whereas the likes of Newt Gingrich chose party, leaving him on the losing end of the stick. In sticking with values over party, Sarah further illustrates that she's more of a man than the Newts, Mitts and Mikes will ever be. AMEN TO THAT!!! What an Amazing Day Yesterday: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Man, oh man, what an incredible day yesterday!!! Not only did a ton of patriotic Americans turn out to demonstrate their First Amendment right yesterday in Washington D.C., but there were many other tea parties held all over our great country. People are truly waking up and standing up, and I could not be more proud of all of you. I just wanted to write a short post on this fabulous, beautiful Sunday that the Lord has made to let all my readers know that I will be a guest on #1 Alaska Talk Radio Host Eddie Burke's show tomorrow, Monday. I will be on to discuss the 9/12 tea parties as well as my experience yesterday. I attended a local tea party at the El Cajon Civic Center here in California where about 500 great patriots turned out. As the San Diego Regional Organizer for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee, I was lucky enough to be able to set up a table and pass out fliers and talk to people about Sarah and the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee.



As a member of the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee, it is the committees hope that Sarah will choose to run for president in 2012. In the meantime, we are spreading the word about her and encouraging people to visit the 2012 Draft Sarah website: http://www.2012draftsarahcommittee.com and sign the Draft Sarah Petition. You can also get more information on Sarah, sign up to volunteer, buy 2012 Draft Sarah apparel and buttons and make a donation. It is important to note that we are the only FEC approved Draft Sarah organization and not affiliated with Sarah in any way. If Sarah does choose to run in 2012, the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee will turn over all the information it collects over to her, so she can use it for her campaign.



The hundreds of people I spoke with yesterday are fired up. They support Sarah and truly appreciate her common sense message during a time in which our country is so unstable. Today We Remember, Let Us NEVER FORGET: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

The horrific events that transpired on September 11, 2001, have forever changed the face of America. Like many of you, I awoke on September 11th thinking about everything I had to accomplish that day. As a 20-year-old college student, I was busy with the tasks at hand. The papers, homework and journalism writing assignments were going to keep me very busy on this Tuesday morning. I rolled out of bed at around 6 a.m. and put on my workout clothes, thinking to myself that the sooner I got done working out, the sooner I could get the other items crossed off my check list. Little did I know how much my life would change, how much America would change in a matter of minutes. As I sat on the bed and put on my running shoes, I turned on the Today Show and I immediately stopped what I was doing because of what I was witnessing on the screen in front of me. The normally clear, crystal blue New York skyline was smoky, hazy and just plain eerie. I immediately listened as Matt and Katie reported what was going on. At first it was reported that a small commuter plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. After hearing this, I thought to myself: "oh, okay some pilot either ran out of gas or had a mechanical failure, hopefully everything will be okay." After hearing this, I went for a quick run.



When I got home, I turned the television back on assuming that whatever had transpired before I left had been figured out and that everything would be okay. Instead, what I saw on television really scared me. It was being reported that it wasn't a commuter plane after all, but a large plane. People were shown running down the street, dazed and confused in their business attire. I will never forget the horrific looks of those poor people's faces. These were successful, hard-working Americans who now seemed to be fleeing to safety. These traders, executives, secretaries, maintenance workers and many more became a blur under the smokey haze and ash that covered everything in sight. Immediately I thought, is this a terrorist attack? Being the journalism student I was, I didn't want to jump to conclusions, and I hoped I was wrong, but everything I was watching seemed to be pointing in that direction.



Unfortunately all my premonitions were indeed true, as I saw an object hit the other tower. When people talk about reality television, usually the actions are staged, but this was a true reality show, a frightening series of events that I could not believe were really happening. I kept hoping that everything I was seeing unfold was just a bad dream. I wanted to put my flannel pj's back on and climb back into bed and cuddle up thinking that when I awoke everything would be normal again, everything would be the same. Yet, this WAS really happening; this WAS reality. Right them and there, I knew America had been attacked. How could this happen to America? I asked myself. Now, I can see one fluke accident, but the second plane hitting the other tower was just a little too coincidental. After the second tower was hit, everything just happened so fast that it is hard to put it all in chronological order because I was just trying to wrapped my head around how someone could attack America, the land of the free, the home of the brave? I had always felt safe and secure. I never worried about going to amusement parks or sporting events. The only thing that scared me when I had to fly was my fear of heights, but that didn't stop me from flying. After watching the event unfold before my eyes, the care-free America I had once known seemed an all too distant memory.


The catastrophic events of September 11th not only changed America as we knew her, but also us as individuals. Before the tragic events of 9/11, I took for granted my family and friends. I took for granted the little things that I now look at with intense pride. While I have always loved America and took pride in being an American, September 11th made me realize how proud I was to be an American, and I wanted to show this pride everywhere I went. From the ashes, people came to the aide of others. Strangers helping strangers, putting their lives on the line to protect their fellow man and fellow woman. Amid the tears, heartache and screams of anger came a bright beacon of light amid the ashes as people joined together and united as one. I was so proud of our brave men and women in uniform who risked their lives as they rushed into those building buildings, knowing that they may not make it out alive. I was so proud of the normal Americans too. The employees who refused to evacuate the buildings of the World Trade Center, opting instead to stay inside and go back up those floors to try to get others out. Those brave men and women at the pentagon who came together to bring out the burned and wounded. Whatever you may think of Donald Rumsfeld, he will forever be a hero for rushing in to help and rescue others. Who could forget the brave men and women of Flight 93? As I write this, I have tears in my eyes, as I think of the sacrifice those amazing individuals made in protecting those on the ground. I cannot begin to imagine what they must have gone through. But in true American form and with tremendous composer, they did what few would do.



You see fellow readers, while the events of September 11th will forever be hard to comprehend, this day brought out the best in our fellow man. Men, women and children of various races and religions came together for a common purpose, a common goal of helping those in need. I'll never forget when our elected officials stood together, hand in hand and sang "God Bless America" with more emotion than I had ever seen from from those whom we elect to serve. After a tumultuous election, all Americans, regardless of party, stood together behind President George W. Bush as he comforted and hugged the hurting and the suffering. Man how the times have changed. I have to ask, "What the hell happened?" "What happened to us?" We came together after an event that the terrorists hoped would forever tear our country apart, only to become divided once more. While President Obama promised to bring hope and transparency to America, he has only brought hype and pain. I say this because instead of honoring the fallen and our brave men and women in uniform, he talks of the waste of money that has been spent on the War on Terror. What does this say to our good men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? That what they are doing over there was and is a mistake? It is bad enough that he made this comment so close to the anniversary of 9/11, let alone that he even said it at all.




I hate to even write this, but I have to wonder if President Obama wants us to forget about what happened on 9/11? But, Readers, whatever you do, it is important that you NEVER FORGET! NEVER FORGET the people who risked their lives to save their fellow man! NEVER FORGET the way America came together! NEVER FORGET the sacrifices so many men and women in uniform are making for us as they risk their lives day in and day out just so we never have to re-live the tragic events that happened on that day. NEVER FORGET what happened on 9/11 and the way the nation came together on 9/12 because now more than ever, we NEED to be reminded that America is the land of freedom and opportunity, the land of the brave. NEVER FORGET the 2,974 innocent individuals who lost their lives.




Take some time today to reflect on your own life and what 9/11 meant to you. Say a prayer for the families of the victims of the attacks, for our soldiers and for the families of the fallen men and women who died protecting us. And tomorrow on 9/12, attend a tea party and bond with your fellow man. It is important to WAKE UP, to STAND UP, and to SPEAK UP because we love our country and are worried about the direction we are headed. Don't be afraid, don't listen to the critics! In returning to the way in which we behaved and acted on 9/12, there is no doubting the power and freedom we have when we stand on the side of our founding fathers, our constitution and our bill of rights. When we stand together, there is no way they can tear us apart; thus, the famous line goes: "UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!"
