Defenders of Wildlife can't be that stupid, can they?

*The organization Defenders of Wildlife would like you to believe that the group's name describes what they are all about. This is the mission statement:

Defenders of Wildlife is a national, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities.

While that may have indeed been the organization's goal at one time in its history, today that mission statement is a lie. Truth is, Defenders is nothing more than a front group for radical leftist politics. Consider that if the group's real purpose was protecting animals in their natural communities, they would show at least a modicum of concern for the herd animals -- caribou and moose -- which are the prey of wolves. But no, all the hacks want to talk about are fuzzy, lovable wolves.

One doesn't have to do much research to learn that if left alone, wolves would decimate the herds in Alaska. Do the math. Wolves bear litters of four to five pups at a time, while caribou and moose are limited to single births. Those same caribou and moose are the wolves' favorite food group, and their hunting tactics are deadly efficient. Every time the State of Alaska has taken a hiatus from controlling the wolf population, the numbers of herd animals quickly drop to alarming levels. We say "alarming" because Alaska's native people depend on hunting caribou and moose to feed their families.

Most native Alaskans live in very small, remote villages which don't have supermarkets, and even if they did, the price of beef and pork would be prohibitive for the natives, many of whom live at the subsistence level. Indeed, many of the villages are so remote that electric power transmission cables and natural gas lines are only a pipe dream. They burn wood for heat and have to depend on portable generators for electricity. The primary modes of transportation are dog sleds and four-wheelers. Hunting caribou and moose is not a sport for these people, and it is much more than a tradition. It is a necessity.

This is why the Fish & Game Department practices scientific predator control. It's not done of out rank cruelty, as Defenders and other such groups insinuate, but rather to protect the herds from their primary predators -- the wolves. What is cruel is what wolves do to the young of the herds, as watching this video from Defenders of Wild Food will demonstrate:

Which is more humane -- a clean shot through the head of a wolf, or or the pack running down and eating caribou calves alive? Now we have no quarrel with letting the wolves get their meals in the wild, but again, in certain areas, to keep them from driving down the herds' numbers to dangerously low levels, the wolves' numbers have to be managed through the practice of predator control.

Defenders of Wild Food is an organization which was formed to fight the lies being spread about wolves in Alaska by the well-financed Defenders of Wildlife, and to educate people about the importance of wildlife to the everyday lives of Alaskans.

We've covered all of this before, here, here, here and here, just to cite a few of our posts on the issue.

But again, it's not about wolves or wildlife. To answer the question posed in the title of this post, no, Defenders of Wildlife, at least those who control it, are not that stupid. In its present-day incarnation, the group exists primarily for the purpose of promoting the radical far left political agenda. That's why they ignore the facts of Alaskan life and continue their attacks. And those attacks, especially since the day she was named to the number two spot on the 2008 GOP presidential ticket, have been almost exclusively aimed at Sarah Palin. It's clear to anyone capable of rational thought that the aim of these leftists is not to save wolves, but to destroy Sarah Palin.

One thing that leftists abhor is the unencumbered presentation of both sides of an issue so that people can decide for themselves. Free speech is not an option for anyone but those who are on their side of the issues, so they are pouring their considerable resources into an all-out campaign to try to convince Discover Networks, Inc. to drop the series "Sarah Palin's Alaska" before it even gets a chance to air. Rather than let people decide with the channel buttons on their remote controls, the leftists want to silence the former governor.

Please take action. Let Discovery Communications know that you support their production of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” There are two ways to do this. The easier option is to sign this petition. You will have the option of including comments, if you so wish.

Palin is regarded as a conservationist by those familiar with the principles of wildlife management and predator control, and the anti-Palin rhetoric coming from Defenders is at best an unscientific, emotional appeal and at worse pure politics. Petition Drive Supporting Palin's Alaska Series Gains Momentum

As does everything Palin, Governor Palin’s upcoming Alaska documentary series has come under attack by the left, in the guise of protection of wildlife. Radical environmental groups, such as Defenders of Wildlife and CREDO, have led the charge. Backed by considerable funding, they have collected over 500,000 signatures through petitions sponsored by Defenders, CREDO, Care2, and Change.com. A summary of their efforts to date against Governor Palin’s show can be found here. To top it all off, CREDO plans to present their petition with signatures to Discovery Communications at their annual shareholders meeting in Washington, D. C. on Wednesday, May 5.

Radical environmentalist efforts against Governor Palin are not new. We are all familiar with Ashley Judd’s propaganda against then Governor Palin’s predator control program. (See here also.) As U. S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) pointed out then, predator control is essential to ensure that there is enough caribou for Alaskans to hunt for food. Predator control was conducted responsibly and scientifically by Governor Palin’s administration.

Environmental extremists have also attacked Governor Palin over her call to “Drill Here, Drill Now!” As Governor Palin has explained on numerous occasions, energy independence is essential for national security and prosperity. In Alaska, the gas and oil industry provides a significant portion of its citizens’ income. Again, her administration responsibly monitored the oil and gas industry so that there was minimal impact on the environment.

As the fiasco in the San Joaquin valley has taught us, we have to balance the needs of human beings with our need to protect the environment. Due to the uproar of eco-terrorists over a three-inch minnow that wasn’t even indigenous to the region, that fertile valley, the bread basket of the nation and even the world, was turned into a dust bowl. Thousands lost their jobs and their livelihood before the federal government was forced to respond to citizens’ demands to turn the water that supplied the farms in the valley back on.

I’ve said all that to say this. Upon becoming aware of the eco-terrorists’ latest attack on Governor Palin, a group of Sarah Palin supporters decided to do something about it. The authors of Sarah Palin Web Brigade and the Sarah Palin Information Blog spearheaded a petition drive in a counter-attack. Other Sarah Palin support sites joined the effort, and our numbers have doubled already.

We have set up a petition in the form of a letter to Discovery Communications President and CEO David Zaslav in which we support Governor Palin’s and Discovery’s Alaska documentary series and at the same time present the facts about her responsible stewardship of Alaska’s wildlife. All supporters of Sarah Palin are asked to sign this petition as a show of support for Governor Pallin. Strength is shown in numbers, and we want the world to know that Governor Palin’s support far exceeds that of the opposition. Gov. Palin at Time's 100 Most Influential People Gala (w/ picture links)

Tonight Governor Palin is in New York City attending Time's 100 Most Influential People Gala.

At a gala in New York on Tuesday night, Time magazine will honor the 100 most influential people in the world.

The dinner is expected to draw Bill Clinton, who will make special remarks, as well as Sarah Palin.

Also expected: Elton John, Ben Stiller, Lorne Michaels, Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Moore, Sir Richard Branson and Matt Lauer.

Prince, Taylor Swift and Andy Samberg of “Saturday Night Live” will perform. (Fingers crossed that Samberg will do his Rahm impersonation.)

Sarah Palin, Bringing The Macho, And True Leadership, To The Republican Party

When I look at Sarah Palin, when I think about Sarah Palin, when I write about Sarah Palin, one thing stands out: This woman has cojones. Grande cojones!

One of the most frustrating things about the modern day Republican Party is, for the most part, they are gutless wonders. Even the ones who you find appealing, the ones that look like they may have some fight in them, will let you down at some point.

We are at war in this country. We have been at war for the soul of this nation for over 100 years. A minority group of Marxist-progressives have slowly, but methodically infected this nation with an ideology of hate, division, and failure. Over the decades they have eroded many of America’s greatest strengths.

With the tragic election of Barack Obama, the war has escalated to thermonuclear status. Not only is every tradition, every custom under assault, so is the Rule of Law, and the very Constitution that protects us from a tyrannical government. So far the Obama regime is winning this war, aided by their media partners who serve as little more than a Ministry of Propaganda.

We are on the verge of losing America, as we know and love it, forever. If not curtailed, the Obama regime will soon have America destroyed, and what will be left will more resemble a third world Banana Republic, than the world’s only Super Power.

Sarah Palin understands this.

Only one person has really shown the ability to stand up to the regime and take it to them on a steady basis, and that’s Sarah Palin. The radical left hates her for it. The Obama regime has tried ever dirty trick in the book, everything it learned from Alinsky, as well as decades immersed Chicago corruption and thuggery, and yet, not only is Sarah still standing, she has gotten stronger.

Justin Miller has written a fine take on this for The Atlantic magazine. While I don’t agree with everything Justin writes, he does get one thing right, for sure: Sarah Palin brings the Macho.

The Macho Primary:

Republican primary voters like macho candidates and no one is more macho than Sarah Palin.

In a way the fashionista and mother of five evokes more toughness than any man regularly mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in the GOP. Palin is visceral, in your face, relishes combat, and won't be shamed. (Her hobbies include ice fishing, snowmobiling, running, and hunting.) These are traits usually and stereotypically associated with men - and they're especially endearing to Republicans, who like to see President Obama hit with the most force possible.

The basis of her popularity says nothing about whether she will or won't run for president or even if she could win. It does show that she's passing the Republican test of who is the toughest person on Democrats and Obama. It's a "macho primary" of sorts.

Palin goes after Obama at every opportunity and hits him hard. She doesn't use a politician's favorite tactic of saying at least one nice thing about the opponent's character before shredding a man's past, questioning his judgment, beliefs, and priorities. Palin shows as much mercy as Jack Bauer.

Not only is Palin tough on Democrats, she seems to genuinely enjoy beating them up. Crowds get behind Palin's attacks of Obama because she makes being mean fun by using humiliation, sarcasm, cutesy catchphrases, and smiles.

Republicans know she won't bow to what they think are elite sensitivities or political correctness. Say she was "going rogue" as a diss? She'll make it the title of her book. Dismiss the GOP as the "party of no?" Palin will rename it "the party of hell no!" Argue that her slogan, "Don't Retreat, Instead RELOAD" is a call to violence? She'll repeat it and then add "that is not a call for violence."

In 2008, John McCain was tough but not merciless on Obama. If he got energized by crowds, it was because he was ad libing and going back-and-forth with questioners--not because they were cheering his peroration. (Palin doesn't really take questions.) McCain occasionally took his party to task for outrageous rhetoric. Even this modicum of restraint left Republicans dejected -- until the pit bull with lipstick came aboard and started mauling Obama.

Who else is as macho as Palin? Tim Pawlenty? Too nice. Mitt Romney? No fun. Plenty of Republicans refuse to apologize, but none appropriate negative accusations quite like Palin does.

The last person to be loved by Republicans as much or more than Palin was George W. Bush. While he can't run for president again, another Texas governor full of swagger could run and do very well in the macho primary: Rick Perry.

Perry campaigned as a Tea Partier in everything but name during the Texas Republican primary this year. He used anti-Washington, right-wing rhetoric as hot as anything Palin has said--and went on to demolish Kay Bailey Hutchinson (he'll win the general election). Get a taste of the rhetoric and see how much Perry gets fired-up going after Washington here.

Republicans don't want a passionate reformer or soothing reconciler--they want a fighter.

It’s not just Republicans who want a fighter...Americans want a fighter!

Another thing...Sarah isn't afraid of taking wayward Republicans to task either. Just ask the Alaska Republican Party! 

While I agree in principle that Rick Perry is also a fighter, and a great Governor, who will indeed win re-election, even he is a bit timid at times compared to Sarah Palin. He sure would make a great Vice President in the Palin administration though!

If I had to make a real comparison to Sarah, with someone in the Party, it would have to be Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann. This woman also has cojones. In fact, it seems that only Conservative women are blessed with any real testicular fortitude nowadays. Like Sarah, Michelle is absolutely hated by the left, and she wears that as a badge of honor. Michelle has grilled top people in the Obama regime, asking them to point to the part of the Constitution that allows them to do what they do. (and left them a quivering mass of humanity) Michelle has called the Obama regime and Marxist-democrat Congress "gangster government." The girl’s got game.

Where are the rest?

Sarah seems to thrive on the attacks thrown her way. I know a lot of this has to do with her strong, unwavering faith in God, but it also has to do with a serious competitive streak. This is a woman who led her high school basketball team to a championship, playing that championship game on a broken ankle. She earned the nickname "Sarahcuda!"

Sarah has carried that competitive urge with her all through life. Sarah is a take no prisoners, in it to win it, kind of person. Look at her reaction when the McCain campaign decided to pull it’s efforts out of Michigan late in the game. She was ready to go, on her own dime if necessary, to keep campaigning there. She wasn’t about to concede a single acre of ground to the Obama campaign. You can bet your last dollar that come 2012 she will have a solid 50 state strategy. No one is better at retail politics than Sarah Palin.

But there is more to it than just guts and a competitive spirit. Sarah Palin stands for things, and there is very little grey area in her positions. Sarah doesn't do nuance.

When Sarah started speaking out about ObamaCare, she zeroed in on the fact that health care would be rationed under the government system, just as it is in every nation on earth that has government run health care. She coined the term "death panels" to vividly describe the boards of bureaucrats who, in place of you and your doctor, would decide who gets what care. The left, as well as the establishment Republicans, lost their minds. When they called her a liar, she wrote another op-ed and doubled down! In fact, Sarah made absolutely certain the term "death panels" became a household word, a part of the American lexicon.

Of course, she was proven right, as we recently wrote, Peter Orszag, the Obama regime’s budget director admitted that yes, there were "death panels" (though he didn’t call them that) and yes, there would be health care rationing. You can read more, and see video of the guy in his own words, here.

Name me another person who could have stood up to the intense ridicule and hatred Sarah Palin faced on this one issue, never mind the insanity the mere mention of her name causes on the left and among the establishment GOP.

You think a Mitt Romney could withstand a daily assault from the Obama regime, their media partners, as well as the loser wing of the Republican Party? Don’t think so. Of course, as the establishment’s choice, I guess the country club GOP’ers would leave him alone.

Let’s look at the latest "controversy" out there: Illegal immigration. Arizona just passed a tough law that mirrors the FEDERAL law, and simply empowers local law enforcement to enforce the laws that are already on the books.

Obviously the left is going nuts, as they are counting on the support of all of those illegals. Why do you think they are pushing for amnesty? Instant Marxist-democrat voters baby! That and the Marxists get to play their favorite card, the race card. Identity politics ‘till the bitter end.

Some of the establishment GOP is going nuts as well, with Connie Mack, a Congressman out of Florida, comparing all of this to "Gestapo tactics."

What was Sarah’s stance? First she said: "What part about the word ‘illegal’ don’t YOU understand." She appeared on the Sean Hannity Show and talked about the issue. She also touched on something the rest of the GOP seems too timid to talk about, Obama’s continual playing of the race card, and his attempts to divide the nation along racial lines, rather than bring the nation together. Something else Sarah did, she went and supported Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team, who have been targeted by vile communists wishing to stir up trouble.






 



 



 





This was a real "in your face" to those who find it troubling that we should actually FOLLOW THE LAW!

Phoenix, Arizona is the kidnap capital of the United States, and ranks number two in the world. This is all due to illegals who come here, the human trafficking it takes to get them here, and the drug trade. It amounts to no less than an invasion by foreign forces. An incredible amount of violence has been visited on the Arizona people, and the federal government has failed to respond. The federal government has failed to carry out it's number one constitutional duty, protecting the American people from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Instead, politicians have tried to use this issue for their own political gain. It borders on treason.

Since the federal government refuses to enforce it’s own laws, and protect it’s people against this invasion of violence, the state of Arizona was forced to take action. Arizona must protect it's people.

I’m sure Mitt Romney will weigh in as soon as all of the polling is done.

Speaking of polling, Arizona voters overwhelmingly support this action, with 70% approval, and over 60% of voters nationwide approve as well.

The Obama regime dithered for nine days while a possibly containable oil spill in the Gulf turned into a disaster of epic proportions. They couldn’t find they time as they were too busy demonizing everything that makes America great. This is Obama's Katrina. Actually it's worse, because there is simply no excuse for waiting so long to act. Stacy Drake weighs in on this mess here.

Of course, once Obama and his crew did get involved, it was purely political, with the regime using this as an excuse to halt America’s efforts toward energy independence. The GOP has been totally silent on this, but not Sarah Palin.

Sarah knows first hand what this tragedy will do to the effected area, having lived with the damage from the Exxon Valdez disaster. She writes extensively about this heartbreaking event in her book. One can tell it shaped her stance on tough standards for oil companies.

Instead of knee jerk panic, or political opportunism, Sarah calmly addressed the situation, showing the true leadership this nation requires. Both as an energy and environmental regulator, as well as Governor, Sarah has proven her expertise in the field. She has shown clear judgment where others have failed. This is the story of Sarah Palin. She is a strong leader who, as Ronald Reagan would say, "paints in bold colors." There are no "pale pastels" in Sarah’s pallette. Sarah Palin stands unwavering and true, where others are too timid to tread.

Quite simply, leaders lead.

Though this doesn’t have anything to do with Sarah. A friend sent me this video that reminds us of the strong bold leadership the Republican Party used to stand for, especially under Ronald Reagan. Though not President, yet, I think Sarah Palin, like the great men portrayed in the video, is the right leader at the right time. Someone who truly understands American greatness, American exceptionalism, and will never apologize for wanting America to remain The Shining City on a Hill.

I Bet Your Iceberg Against My Tsunami

Anyone who has been following the liberal / conservative battle for decades knows that prior to the Tea Party movement, conservatives were a very docile bunch. They were dubbed "the silent majority." They worked, raised families, built businesses, went to church and voted Republican every first Tuesday in August. They weren't rabble rousers who went to rallies which would end up with tear gas being fired and resistors were dragged off to jail. They didn't engage in the politics of personal destruction. They sure as heck would never be caught dead making propaganda videos or ginning up controversies on their blogs. They were "grown ups". They trusted the system - that the system would continously allow for "grown ups" to be elected to office. On November 4, 2008, they found out they were wrong and they took action.

It has always been a belief of mine that, like Ronald said, given the facts the American people will always make the right decision every time. But we were sheep being lead to a slaughter that we had no clue about. We followed the hope and we followed the change right into the pen. Then, suddenlty we realized that the media lied to us and we became agitated. We started clawing at the chicken wire. We wanted out and we were willing to get out at any cost. We were sheep no more.

Conservatives learned quickly that the liberals owned the board. They made the rules. As such, our only hope of defeating them would be to beat them at their own game. The "grown up" world filled with opportunity and freedom had been taken away from us. We were exiles from the shining city and we want to come home. Now.

With that drive and determination, we organized. We protested. We formed online groups and started blogging. We took over social media like Facebook and Twitter. We found a voice that was ours - a voice that had once been muzzled by Steve Schmidt in the 2008 election. But enough of what she was saying got out and people quickly ran to her rallies in droves.

While the Alaska bloggers and the mainstream media tried to silence that voice by spewing innuendo after innuendo and lie after lie, Sarah Palin kept talking and writing. They could not silence her even after 26 frivolous ethics violations were tossed out as frivolous. Every "iceberg," divorce allegation, perjury allegation, maternity of her child allegation and every other element including the kitchen sink turned up nothing. Zero. Nada.

Sarah Palin is the most vetted person in American history.

Using the Alinsky rules for radicals and the Shadow Party playbook, the right went to work. And boy did they do it right. Conservatives are smarter than liberals. Why? Because conservatives use facts. Liberals use spin. And while conservatives may have reluctantly decided to get their hands dirty, they knew it was either that or lose their freedom. The choice was an easy one to make. Where conservatives beat liberals at their own game is in one minor adjustment to the playbook. It's called telling the truth.

The liberals believe that if you repeat a lie long enough it eventually becomes the truth. So what if you repeated the truth over and over again long enough. Would it not become the truth too?

Polls suggest that most Americans now believe the media lies. With her followers repeating the mantra and Sarah Palin herself hammering it home, we can say that we have gotten that message to stick. According to Pew, 57% of the public have a negative view of the national news media.

As for the politics of personal destruction, let's consider this. For the last year and a half, liberals have been smearing Sarah Palin. What they have done to her is an abomination in the world of facts and journalism. But we were not going to sit idly by and watch the left destroy one of our great leaders and destroy our movement. We took to the blogosphere and fought for our cause.

The difference is we're not as reckless and irresponsible as the left. We don't make stuff up.

Let's look at how the media handled unfounded allegations that Sarah Palin's resignation as Alaska governor was because of a "pending federal indictment." According to rightpundits.com:

The Huffington Post, Daily Kos, Max Blumenthal at The Daily Beast, and Andrea Mitchell at MSNBC have all come out with the same story at approximately the same time. One would almost think it had been sent out in a memo to the Obama media to disperse as truth for it to have been so well coordinated.

Huffington Post writer Shannyn Moore was threatened with a lawsuit by Palin's attorney Thomas Van Flein after the FBI itself, in an unprecedented move, came out and immediately debunked allegations that Sarah Palin was facing a federal indictment.

Moore would later back track and defend herself by saying that she was merely reporting on rumors.

Okay. So the left has established under their rules that reporting rumors and false allegations is okay. Surely we on the right have just as much right to President Obama's garbage can as the left has to Sarah Palin's. What if there is an allegation about the president? Can we report that? We wouldn't be doing anything differently than what those on the left would be doing to one of ours had the shoes been on the other feet.

The National Enquirer is saying "top anti-Obama operatives are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair [between Barack Obama and campaign aide Vera Baker]." It kind of makes me feel a little better now knowing we can play that game too. The left has created a monster and now it's about to destroy their city. He who lives by the rhetorical sword will eventually die by the rhetorical sword.

It's sweet irony that their great "messiah" may now be facing the realities of something big and bad after all the left has tried to do to take down Sarah Palin. Just desserts are surely eaten best with a fork in the right hand rather than a spoon in the left. Is it possible that the right may actually be able to bring Barack Obama down using the same techniques that the left used on Palin? Stay tuned. Hotel surveillance tape is pending.

Not to turn this into a Keith Olbermann session where we quote non-credible sources as fact. Let me make this perfectly clear. As Shannyn Moore has said before: these are just rumors. Besides, if I thought the Olbermann-Palingates connection was a legitimate journalistic technique, I would have linked to Mofo Politics a long time ago (November 6, 2008 to be precise) to break this story - which also shows that these allegations have been bubbling under the surface for awhile. Only we're not children who get all giddy and run to our blogs to start running our mouths before we know what we're talking about.
