Flashback: VP Debate -- October 2, 2008

Full Debate, running time: 1:32:31

Highlights, running time: 0:06:07
Thanks to Whitney the Pipsqueak who posted this originally on The Palination and LOTUS

Get yourself a bowl of MooseTracks® ice cream (Governor Palin's favorite), darken the room, sit down and enjoy the show. If you don't have time for the complete version, the highlights capture the salient points in just over six minutes, and you can see Governor Palin's Reagan Conservatism on display. In fact, the highlights make it all the more apparent.

Governor Palin's enemies made much hay about her four winks -- which I happened to find beautiful and appropriate -- especially considering that at least one out of the four was directed at her father, Chuck Heath. Perhaps, this was because Governor Palin's enemies were unable to address the substance of her words, which ring even more true today than they did a year and a day ago.

An interesting side story to the debate is that Governor Palin had injured her right hand from a fall she took while jogging at John McCain's ranch. The large square object on her right hand in photos dated October 2, 2008 through October 11, 2008 is a bandage covering the wound. Just like in that Wasilla Warriors basketball game more than two decades earlier, Governor Palin overcame her physical pain to bring home a victory.

Forget Diamonds! A First Dude is a Girl's Best Friend: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Sorry, President Obama, but you can’t always get what you want. Like us mere mortals, you’ll find that you’ll win some battles and you’ll lose some battles. It must really burn our president up that he finally couldn’t get what he wanted with the simple flash of a smile or a wink and a nod. As many of you know, I blogged about how terrible a decision it was for our president to go away on a last-minute trip like this when we have so many critical issues facing our country. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Michelle Obama going to lobby for events like the Olympics; in fact, I see this as a great thing. I watched our First Lady give her speech in front of the IOC and felt that she did a very good job in spreading the message about the city of Chicago. I wondered to myself: “Why did the president to travel all this way to say what the first lady said so eloquently?

The entire trip cost more than $900,000. The U.S. delegation did not take one, but two planes. This group, a mixture of U.S. Olympic officials, celebrities and members of Obama Administration, had enough star power. When I found President Obama was going to travel to Copenhagen, I immediately saw this as a slap in the face to his wife. Did he not think she was up to the job? Michelle is a smart, strong woman, who held a high-profile job at one time in her life. She is more than capable to stand on her own two feet. This is what separates Barack and Michelle Obama from Todd and Sarah Palin. Unlike President Obama, Todd allows his wife to stand on her own two feet, and he supports her. You can tell they have a great marriage because they know what is important to each other, and they believe in each other. Todd is not scared of being a married to powerful woman, but apparently President Obama is.

I have to wonder if President Obama’s Messiah complex set in? It is no secret that Obama is in love with himself. I really don’t think he thought he was going to lose- I really don’t. I betcha Obama figured out that if he showed up, a 2016 Chicago Olympics was a sure bet. A lot of you are not going to like this, but, for perhaps the first time, I actually feel sorry for Michelle Obama. I feel this way because if I was in her shoes, I would be confident that I could perform the task I had been asked to do. I would not need someone do my job for me. You all have to remember that Michelle has been on the planning delegation for a long period time, and she always planned on travelling to Copenhagen to address the IOC. As a member of the delegation, Michelle knew the message they hoped to convey, and she knew her city.

There is only one reason why President Obama traveled over to Copenhagen: He wanted to make the event all about him. This was more than apparent in the speech he gave last night. Throughout the entire speech, he repeatedly used “I” and ‘Me” when addressing the IOC. I had to laugh when he said election night was not about him. Obama said the people did not show up at Grant Park for him, but instead to celebrate democracy in action. Give me a break. He really expects us to believe that? He knew good and well those people showed up and waited hours to hail him as king. He thinks we’re dumb enough to really believe that those folks who showed up at that park were there to see Michelle or the kids? This speaks volumes about Barack Obama the man, Barack Obama the husband. This is what separates a man from a boy.

Todd is a remarkable man. He is not afraid to let his wife hold a powerful job and receive attention. He is not afraid to take care of the kids and drive carpool. He is not afraid because he is comfortable in his own skin. It takes a certain type of individual and Todd is this person. He has no problem nurturing his kids and showing them affection. He is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get dirty. Todd is one cool dude. He is a successful man too. He owns a commercial fishing business, races snow machines in sub-zero weather, and until recently was a North Slope employee. It doesn’t hurt that he can change a diaper too- he’s the kind of guy every girl wishes to end up with. Sarah is as lucky to have him, as he is to have her. I know he is not technically the first dude anymore, but he will always be first dude in my book for the way in which he supports his wife. Sarah is so lucky to have a husband who supports her and allows her to be the strong woman she is. What an amazing couple.

Readers, Todd Palin is more of a man than Barack Obama will ever be. While Todd believes in his wife, knowing she was made to do great things, the same cannot be said for President Obama. While he may have let his wife have a great, successful career, he couldn't give the spotlight to his more-than-capable wife. He could not allow her to have this moment. This speaks volumes. Once again, President Obama chose his job and image of how he is seen around the world over his own family. I think he assumed he was going to win the 2016 Olympic bid and come back to a heroes welcome. Little did he know that his Messiah complex was running on empty. Instead of coming home victorious, he came home with a bruised ego. He came home a loser. For once, his charismatic appeal did not win over the crowd. Unlike Todd, Barack could not take a step back to allow his wife to rise above the fray, to rise above his ego. I find this very unfortunate. For a man who speaks of equality and women’s rights, he sure doesn’t practice what he preaches.

Todd is the epitome of what is means to be a great husband and father. He is a stronger man than Barack will ever be. He is not afraid to take charge when he needs to, but is also not afraid to sit back and let his wife have her day. President Obama has a lot to learn from a man like Todd, but then again, Barack will never be half the man Todd is, for Todd will forever be the first dude.

Sarah Needs Her Own "Official" Website

by NYPalinPower

Ron DeVito put up an excellent post (see below "Master List of Governor Palin's 2009 Accomplishments") He gives a thorough list of Sarah Palin's accomplishments!
You can also check it out at: http://sarahpalininformation.wordpress.com/2009/10/01/master-list-of-governor-palins-2009-accomplishments/

Thank you so much Ron! I am so impressed! You did a wonderful job putting this all together so thoroughly! It's rare these days to find truthful and thorough information about Sarah. Wow, what a relief to read the truth for a change!

This information needs to be widely distributed and it can by incorporating it into one "Official" Sarah Palin Website that could be linked from Sarah's Facebook page so all that want to know the truth can get it.

The American public is so confused about her now because they have been given so much twisted information from the media and are constantly reading hateful lies that are spread all over the internet from PAID "trolls" (I wonder what sources are paying them?). No wonder the public doesn't know what to believe about Sarah. There is so much division in this country about her and I believe a lot has to do with not having access to the truth.

So I think the only way is to have an Official Sarah Website with this information, so that we can all properly PROMOTE PALIN POSITIVELY. I hope she does this. And again, she should have a link from her Facebook page so that anybody who wants to know the truth about Sarah can find it easily for themselves.

Keep up the good work Ron!
Best, Dawn

Sarah: Representing Us!!! A Post by Conservative Girl with Voice

Since it was announced that Sarah’s memoir would be released sooner than expected, it pretty much became a #1 bestseller within hours. This overnight sensation is further proof of the appeal that is Sarah Palin. While many claim that they cannot stand her, there is not a doubt in my mind that they know she is threat to President Obama and the agenda of the liberal left. This IS the reason why they fear her. They fear her because they know people listen to her. Sure, people may listen to other potential 2012 Presidential Republican Party nominees, but not nearly to the same degree. Sarah is much different than the Bobby Jindals, Mitt Romneys and Mike Huckabees of the GOP establishment because she is an outsider and not a member of the elite country club society. While many may define elitists as simply the rich, I do not. I define elitists as rich, powerful individuals who do not take into account the daily lives of normal-day Americans.

The liberal left is not the only group that is threatened by Sarah. The country–club wing of the GOP is too. They are threatened because they are finally realizing that no one is listening to their message because this wing of the party is not listening to average-day Americans. The average-day Americans who work hard, pay their bills and mortgage on time, and respect honesty from those who represent them. As an American, I don’t care if a politician attended a fancy college, or holds a prestigious degree. I want a politician who has a message I can really identify with, a message that excites me and makes me feel as if America can be better, stronger and more secure. Sarah is this individual. Although the men listed above are great Americans, they do not excite me.

I do not even like to refer to Sarah as a politician because to me, she is not the typical politician. I know she is a private citizen now, but even when she was governor and the Republican Party’s V.P. nominee, I always said “Sarah” when talking about her. During the election, I did not like referring to her as politician because I felt that did her an extreme disservice. Typical politicians talk the talk, but are unable to walk the walk. This is what is so wrong with politicians today. I’m sick and tired of politicians saying they are going to serve me when they do just the opposite. This is what separates Sarah from the typical politician. During the election, Sarah was the spark who ignited the GOP’s torch. Unlike other politicians, she excited us. I had never been excited until Sarah entered the national scene.

When Sarah speaks, I listen. I have never experienced this during my lifetime. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all about the great Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan had a knack for speaking to the people, not above them. Ronald Reagan had the God-given talent of being able to make people feel as if he understood their hopes and fears, and that he would do everything in his power to make Washington D.C. work for them. As conservatives, we don’t want the government to take care of us, but we do want them to listen to us and work for us. We elect politicians to make a difference. We have some great leaders in Washington D.C. who truly do care about us. Individuals like Michele Bachmann, Jim DeMint, Mike Pence, John Boehner and Marsha Blackburn. There are probably others whom you can think of, but the point I am trying to make is that there seems to be a far greater amount of folks in D.C. who seem to be working against us instead of for us.

In speaking out on important issues, Sarah is speaking on our behalf. She is speaking for us, for our families and for our children. She has more guts and determination than the vast majority of politicians today. Many wonder: “What does she have to gain by doing this?” The answer is: “Everything.” Sarah has everything to gain because she is illustrating that one does not need a title to do great things. There are many normal Americans among us who confirm this. Individuals like Hannah Giles, James O’Keefe, and Anita Moncrief. These three strong, normal people are responsible for uncovering the corruption of ACORN. They are just like you and me. They are not powerful politicians; instead, they are powerful citizen journalists. This is what Sarah was talking about. The only criterion needed is the belief in yourself that you can make a difference.

With everything Sarah represents, I find it as no surprise that her memoir is #1 on the Barnes and Noble and Amazon Best Seller Lists, and I fully agree with Rush Limbaugh when he says he hopes Sarah sells five million copies. With her genuine personality, independent streak and can-do attitude, Sarah is not your typical republican. She knows what we are experiencing because she is or has experienced the same things. Just because she was governor, does not mean she is above the trials and tribulations that come in life. I agree with Sarah because I identify with Sarah.

As a young woman, I look up to her for everything she has accomplished. I look up to her because she represents a modern-day Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. I look up to her because she proved that you do not need to go to that fancy ivy-league school to be a successful leader. I look up to her because she is not afraid to be feminine and put on a skirt and a pair of heels rather than the typical, awful-looking pantsuit. I look up to her because she is a wife, mother and grandmother. Finally, I look up to her because she doesn’t give a damn about what others think of her. She is comfortable in her own skin and is not going to change for anyone. This is a woman I identify with, and this is a woman whom I hope to call my president come 2012.

Going Rogue Book Cover

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

WORLDmag.com announces:

By yesterday, the book, which was written with the help of WORLD senior writer Lynn Vincent, had already risen to the top of the bestseller lists at the two major online retailers, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, with sales that skyrocketed so quickly, it led one publishing industry source to call it “truly unprecedented.”

And today, all those book buyers and book-buyers-to-be can now get a glimpse of what the cover of Going Rogue: An American Life is going to look like.

Why Can't "O" be More Like Sarah? A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Okay, so let me get this straight. It was unacceptable for Sarah to leave Alaska for a short period of time to speak at the Evansville Right to Life Banquet, but it is totally fine and dandy for President Obama to travel to Copenhagen to lobby for the 2016 Olympic Games, in the hopes that the Games will be held in Chicago? Where is the outrage? Where are the media to lash out and criticize President Obama for leaving Washington D.C. when there are so many serious issues at hand? The answer is pure and simple: President Obama is a liberal, Sarah is not.

While working out yesterday morning, I had MSNBC on the TV in front of me. As I exercised, a report came on regarding President Obama's upcoming trip to Copenhagen. Now, I don't know about you, but I find it outrageous that the president is getting involved with an event like the Olympics when we have such serious, important issues our country is facing right now. As I listened to the report, I once again witnessed the double standard that has become the norm in regards to the treatment Sarah receives versus the treatment our president receives. Once again, the reporters were drooling and getting chills up their legs as they chatted about the trip. One reporter said how important and personal having the Olympics in Chicago would mean to Obama. Another reporter said how great it would be if Obama is able to twist a few arms. Readers, I thought to myself: "Excuse me while I go throw up."

Now, let's transcend back in time to when Sarah was governor of Alaska, and she said it would be an honor to address the Evansville Right to Life Banquet attendees. Remember all the flack she took? This is even after she had given the AK lawmakers plenty of warning regarding her intentions, unlike our president who made this decision only a few days prior to his trip tomorrow. Sarah planned ahead. She put her trip on the calendar, and she even told lawmakers to let her know if they did not think the trip was a good idea. No one voiced any concerns until just a few days before her trip. Why did they wait so long, you may ask? Because they wanted to be a pain in Sarah's backside. These cranky lawmakers knew they could get media attention while criticizing a woman who had taken the time to plan- doing so during a time in which lawmakers had nothing on the schedule.

Like President Obama, Sarah's travel decision was close to her heart. She spoke to a group of people who value life. This in itself was another reason the liberal left attacked her and criticized her. They did not approve of her speaking about an issue they did not agree with. Instead of explaining how near and dear Sarah's pro-life beliefs are to her as a woman, they attacked her and said things like: "How could she leave her state?" "How dare she speak before such a partisan anti-abortion group?" You see the double standard, now? You see the hypocrisy with all of this?

I wanted to write this "Random Thoughts" post today to illustrate the total disregard the mainstream media and liberal left have when it comes to Sarah and our president. Imagine if Sarah was president right now (From the bottom of my heart, I wish she was)- What would have happened? I don't even think I need to answer these questions because you all know the answers. This is the problem we have in America today. While we have so many individuals, like Sarah, who work hard and prioritize, there are others like our president who believe lobbying for the Olympics is much more important than worrying about the amount of troops needed in Afghanistan, or the good veterans in Alaska whose pensions just got taken away. How about the health care reform that congress is debating? How about our economy in which many are still losing their jobs on a daily basis?

Obama is our president. He is the leader of our country, but right now I view him as a lobbyist, back in Chicago, using those Chicago-style politics in order to get what he wants; in fact, Michelle Malkin recently reported that President Obama's Chicago friends would greatly benefit financially if the Olympics were held there. Yet the msm have yet to report this. The msm have yet to criticize Obama's decision to leave the United States during such a critical time in our nation's history. Wake up, msm! Since you are not going to report the truth, Americans like myself are going to do your job for you!

It pains me to see a president who cares more about his Chicago buddies than us, "Mainstreet U.S.A." folks. It pains me to see a president who cares more about how he is viewed in other parts of the world than for the good men and women who are risking their lives day in and day out so that we remain free and protected. Finally, it pains me to see a president who cares more about holding a vendetta against a now-private citizen (Sarah) than giving 26 AK Guard Veterans their pensions. I guess nothing surprises me anymore with this administration. This just goes to show where President Obama's true priorities lie. Mr. Obama is a man who would rather party it up, give favors to his rich buddies and soak up the fame and press that come with being president than do what he was elected to do: Serve the people, ALL the American people.

Sarah Palin: Going Rogue Number One In Sales UPDATED!

In less than 12 hours after Barnes & Noble first offered "Going Rogue: An American Life," Sarah Palin’s brand new book, for pre-publication sales, it has hit number one on their chart!

The book is currently number two on Amazon.com. Amazon, for some reason, was many hours behind the curve, and didn’t have the book linked. This allowed Barnes & Noble to get the early sales, and the book to reach number one on their charts a lot sooner.

**** Updated! As of 5:15 PM "Going Rogue: An American Life" is now the number one best seller at Amazon.com! ****

This new book, so new that it doesn’t even have a cover design yet, has generated serious buzz. Easily the most anticipated book of the year, Palin and her publisher HarperCollins surprised everyone when they announced that Sarah had finished her book already and the launch date had been moved to November 17 from it’s original Spring 2010 time period.

From Fox News

NEW YORK- That was fast.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, has finished her memoir just four months after the book deal was announced, and the release date has been moved up from the spring to Nov. 17, her publisher said.

"Governor Palin has been unbelievably conscientious and hands-on at every stage, investing herself deeply and passionately in this project," said Jonathan Burnham, publisher of Harper. "It's her words, her life, and it's all there in full and fascinating detail."

Palin's book, her first, will be 400 pages, said Burnham, who called the fall "the best possible time for a major book of this kind."

The book now has a title, one fitting for a public figure known for the unexpected -- "Going Rogue: An American Life."

Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins, has commissioned a huge first printing of 1.5 million copies. Sen. Ted Kennedy's "True Compass," published by Twelve soon after his Aug. 25 death, also had a 1.5 million first printing.

As with the Kennedy book, the digital edition of Palin's memoir will not be released at the same time as the hardcover. "Going Rogue" will not be available as an e-book until Dec. 26 because "we want to maximize hardcover sales over the holidays," Harper spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Monday.

Publishers have been concerned that e-books, rapidly becoming more popular, might take away sales from hardcover editions, which are more expensive.

Palin, who abruptly resigned as Alaska governor over the summer with more than a year left in her first term, has been an object of fascination since Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate in 2008, chose her as his running mate.

Although Democrat Barack Obama won the election and Palin was criticized even by some Republicans for being inexperienced, she remains a favorite among conservatives and is a rumored contender for 2012. Interest in her is so high that a fan recently paid $63,500 to have dinner with her, part of an Internet auction for a charity that aids wounded veterans.

Palin, 45, spent weeks in San Diego shortly after leaving office and worked on the manuscript with collaborator Lynn Vincent, a person close to her said. She was joined in San Diego by her family and her top aide, Meghan Stapleton, then spent several weeks in New York working around the clock with editors at Harper, said the person, who wasn't authorized to comment and asked not to be identified.

We knew Sarah was a hard worker, but oh my goodness, she didn’t let any time go to waste!

This also answers the question of those who wondered why she had been "heard (on Facebook) but not seen." It’s obvious though, after her great Hong Kong speech, and this announcement, that things are about to change on that front!

The synopsis of the book of the book reads as follows:

Sarah Palin burst onto the political scene at the height of the 2008 presidential campaign and overnight became a national sensation. Adored by the right, bitterly reviled by the left, she is the most polarizing figure to emerge in American politics in decades. Yet for all the dirt digging and gossip that has surrounded her, very little is actually known about who she is, what she believes, and above all, about her plans for the future. In her new book, Sarah Palin tells the story of her Alaskan upbringing, her marriage and family life, her political career, her religious beliefs, and her meteoric rise to national prominence. With her customary blunt common sense, she sets the record straight about the many myths and lies that have been spun around her and lays out her vision for an America that is strong, independent, and free.

We all knew this would be an autobiographical book, but it’s the last sentence that is intriguing and will sell the books! America is hungry for a true leader. The first person to come up with a real vison to get the nation back on track will most certainly shoot to the head of the pack.

Sarah started laying things out in her Hong Kong speech. It was a policy speech full of solid ideas, the book obviously looks to expand on that.

HarperCollins has ordered an initial printing 1.5 million. Currently, Sarah has 905,787 Facebook friends, and this increases every hour, on the hour. One can bet that most will buy, at minimum, one book, with many planning these as Christmas presents, and buying multiple books. I think we’re going to need more books!

Rush Limbaugh offered his thoughts:

The Wall Street Journal’s John Fund had some interesting insight on the behind the scenes goings on, and pretty much confirms what we already knew about the inept McCain campaign:

Sarah Palin may no longer be governor of Alaska, but she's certainly destined to become a best-selling author. HarperCollins, her publisher, has announced the print-run of her memoir will be a staggering 1.5 million copies -- equal to the print-run of Senator Ted Kennedy's posthumous autobiography published this month. Publishing sources tell me that such a giant run is only ordered up when there is clear evidence from booksellers and surveys of massive interest in a book.

The book, which will be published on November 17, was a crash project. Ms. Palin actually moved temporarily to San Diego after she resigned the governorship in July so she could be close to her collaborator, Lynn Vincent. I bumped into Ms. Vincent, a former editor at the Christian-oriented World magazine, in New York a few weeks ago, where she had parked herself in a hotel close to the offices of HarperCollins while working on the book's final edits.

Ms. Vincent didn't reveal any details about the book, but did acknowledge it will describe Ms. Palin's frustration over her treatment by the staffers she inherited from the McCain campaign after her surprise pick as the GOP vice presidential nominee last year. Ms. Palin was booked on grueling interviews with hostile reporters while talk-show hosts such as Glenn Beck couldn't even get through to her aides. Mr. Beck tells me he was stunned when he picked up the phone one day just before the election to discover Sarah Palin was on the other end of the line. "She explained that she had been blocked from reaching her audience, so she was now 'going rogue' and booking her own interviews," Mr. Beck told me. "I was thrilled she had burst out of the cage they'd built for her and we were finally talking."

That incident was the only time Ms. Palin declared her independence from her keepers, and it's fitting that the title of her upcoming book will be "Going Rogue: An American Life."

This was a brilliant move for the Arctic Fox, and not just for sales of her book. As all big books require a book tour, and a round of interviews on all of the top shows, Sarah will be laying out her vision for America at a time it is sorely needed. At the same time, she will be starting her effort to go and campaign for like minded candidates for the 2010 elections.

Brilliant timing, and we expected no less from Sarah Palin!
